I thought it was gonna come last week. I sure hope it's waiting for me when I get home!

HELP!!!!

My just over a year iBook has developed a serious Tiger problem. It's FUBAR. Will not boot at all from the installer disk, from the hard drive, from FSCK -fy, won't even verify and repair the disk. I am not a Mac virgin. I used to troubleshoot everything from system 7.0 to 9.2. No problems until I installed Tiger. Classic would not work. i would love to dump it but am unable to do so. I've orderd disk warrior and hope that will help. If anyone has any clue about what to do I woud really appreciate it. I don't want to lose 2,000 + songs and photos. I know I should have backed it up. I did on my iMac but the songs and photos are not the same. THANK YOU!!

I really wonder what the deal is.

We had a week of almost daily builds, then nothing for a few days.

Options:

1. Some developers found problems in the last release and Apple is back to bug fixing.

2. Steve is still going through it and is unhappy. More bug fixing required.

3. Apple is still fixing bugs since the rumors are correct that they want this to be a very, very solid release and start moving as much of the team over to Leopard as possible. Steve has to be excited about going head to head with MS on an OS release for the first time, so I am sure he wants to crush Redmond. Getting Tiger behind Apple ASAP allows the most resources to be focused on the future rather than bug fixing the past.

4. Apple is simply torturing us.

Who knows. Reasons one, two or three is fine by me. I couldn't be happier to wait for a better Tiger with fewer of these brutal bugs.

With all of that said, all eyes are turning to .2. Tiger was a pretty crappy launch is most estimations, and I hope Apple makes good on their premium brand. I'm rooting for them, I really am. Time will tell I guess...

I'm predicting Thursday or Friday. Also vlc is supposed to release its .8.2 tiger ready final player on Saturday or Sunday. Looks like a busy week.

I thought vlc had a lawsuit against it which discontinued the product. I hope I am wrong since this product rocks.

Thanks for this - I'd been looking around for some precedent, but hadn't found anything.

So, today anyone? :)

I think that number three sounds the most logical. Although I imagine that there will be more updates to Tiger in the future. If Steve can move more of the team to Leopard, will just be advantageous for the future.

So, iMeowbot today at 4pm PDT could be the date. ;) Of course it could also be any other Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, if number three is correct.

So, maybe 10.4.2 will come out sometime in the next few hours. That would be nice... a new update to OS X and iPodderX in the same day! :D

The Eye on the Tiger

Hey Y'all. I'm waiting for 10.4.2 as well. I had to go back to Panther for now because of the whole Pro-tools compatability issue with Tiger. I'm assuming Pro-tools will write their update around 10.4.2

I hope it comes today, but some are saying next week. I'll keep watching for it.

Now that a pattern has been noticed, they have no choice but to change it, just to keep us on our toes! Thursday at 2:47 AM.

Another day, and still no .2

I really hope Apple is still banging tons of bugs out of Tiger. I would actually be happy to read that yet another release has been sent to developers for testing.

Either way .2 cannot come soon enough.

Use Missing Sync instead of Palm Desktop

I wouldn't even go near Palm until they release a Tiger version. I don't really like their software any how. I'm not touching anything Palm 'till they release Palm Desktop for Tiger. I can wait.
You'll want to use Missing Sync to link iCal and Address Book to iSync. Works like a charm.

In addition to 10.4.2 bug fixes I hope they come out with two other updates for iPhoto and Compressor. For iPhoto, exporting slideshows to 720x480 creates square pixels and not DV or DV anamorphic aspect pixels. This is the biggest oversight right now, other than the the gamma problem with saving images.

For Compressor, the quality of the mpeg2 simply sucks. There are random macroblocks that occur with moderate panning, that simply doesn't show up in Compressor 1.2.1. I hate having to reboot to Panther to do MPEG2 encoding.

I want proof!

If it's not here by 4:37 on Thursday, (and I hope that it is) can you please email me a pic as proof of your new smooth bottom, to verify that you have indeed kept your word? :)
