The funny thing is that Tiger looks and feels just like panther with a few exceptions but is so full of bugs. I don't get it.

APPLE: MAKE IT FASTER > MORE STABLE. End of list.

I am one who also is glad they are stomping out the bugs. I am in the camp though, that thinks if they continue to try to solve every bug they know about, we might be waiting for this release for many more weeks. I think, at this point in tigers life, that it should be more important to fix the many issues with this release now, rather than the continued wait for new fixes and new features.

I am a new convert and there are just a few things that don't "work" quite right. I'm sure Apple knows about them and probably already fixed them in the .2 release. I just wish they'd rap up the fixes they've got and give us a better tiger and mop up the straggles and new features at a later date. It's a guarantee that they will not be able to fix everything in this point release, so get us 90% there and make tiger what it should have been when released.

I know, I'm impatient, but these annoying few things have just got me wanting them to quit the wait and give us the fixes. I know I might get flamed but this seed and fix a few more and seed a new file and fix a few more and seed a new file and fix a few more...could go on for a long time.

THANK YOU. Exactly what I was thinking. Give us what you got now and what you didn't get to put it into the .3 release.

I could be horribly wrong...

No more Panther updates then for us hold-outs? :( ;)
I know I would be wrong but am I the only one who thinks that there are 2 completely different OS teams. I am sure I read this somewhere, i.e, the 10.0 team did 10.2 and the 10.1 team did 10.3 and so on. Therefore, the Panther team has been working on Leopard for a good 6 months. Right?!?

If I am wrong please tell me that everyone on the Mac OS development crew did not stop to work on SP2...I mean the point releases of 10.4.2:D

That is interesting but would be the stupidest programming technique ever. If they didn't work together on a single build they would constantly be overstepping each other and rewriting the same code.

I agree, they have to "stay on the same page;" otherwise they will be lost.

Beginning of next week is just around the corner and still no 10.4.2 :(
I believe this is the first time that we had to wait for an update since the release of rumor about them coming.

I don't know about you guys, but I have can of cold beer waiting for completion successful update to 10.4.2

I'm a holdout also. Just don't see any reason to upgrade. Panther is doing all that I need at the moment and it's stable. 10.3.9 is the last, but we will continue to get security updates.
;)

I feel the same way - I just don't have any real reason to upgrade yet. I'll test drive Tiger when my girlfriend gets it with her new Mac, but right now it looks like I might just be waiting for Leopard.

I have been using Panther on my 15" PB and Tiger on the 12" PB. So, I was able to compare the two side by side. So far, Panther is more stable (relatively speaking) as Adobe CS2's each program will launch soomthly. With Tiger, I experienced occasional crush at CS2 launches, necessitating the re-launch. Other than that, both OSs are performing good.

What kind of Mac is your girlfriend getting? Looks like waiting for Leopard will mean 2007. We will also be transferred to Intel by then.

My girlfriend wants an iBook, so basically whenever they are updated, she'll be buying one. It will be nice to have a portable Mac around the place!

Yah, I'm fine with waiting until 2007 for Leopard. My iMac is only 1.5 years old, so I don't see myself needing a new one for a couple more years regardless - I'll probably just buy a new system with Intel Inside and Leopard pre-installed. Hmmm, looks like I may never own an IBM-powered Mac then!

It's not that I have anything against Tiger, or that I specifically want to wait for Leopard, but it's just how things are looking like they'll turn out. But who knows, a lot can change in a couple years...

Tuesday, Tuesday and and still no 10.4.2 I feel like waiting for Christmas present that I already know about but can't get it till the right time comes (Christmas)
Apple really has put a lot of effort in this update, let just hope it is going to be quite good.

I'm sure it will be, given how long it has taken Apple to release it. Or, perhaps there well be some new amazing functionality embedded in it which Apple has been holding back on until they can make an announcement! ;) Yah, I know, that won't be the case, but it's always fun to speculate!

That is the fun part. No one really knows for sure. If we don't hear anything in the next few hours, then Thursday the 7th is looking a lot more likely.

And then one could ask the question, why would Apple purposely coincide the next OS 10.4 release with a day on which they're set to make other announcements? Are they related? ;)

Well, perhaps Apple is going to introduce some new gadget that will require 10.4.2 And now they are just testing it out for full compatibility.
Same was a month ago with FCP HD or that Motion 2 which required 10.4.1
So we may see the update tomorrow or this week.

It's an interesting idea, but realistically what could it be? Bear in mind that we already know that iTunes 4.9 under 10.4.1 already talks to Motorola phones, and as iTunes works on platforms other than Tiger (Panther, Jaguar, XP etc) that can be safely ruled out as a reason for the 10.4.2 delay.

I don't think it would be a devastatingly new Mac, as surely these will only come with/after the Intel transition. Some have suggested that Apple will still go with the 970MP processors in the Powermac, but again, after the big Intel switch announcement, it would very much confuse me (and, most probably, shareholders and analysts) if they gave huge fanfare to a new PowerPC chip based product.

The long awaited Tablet Mac? IMHO that would be kept for Paris.

I know it's only speculation though, so I'll add to it by saying that in my opinion, any connection between the long awaited 10.4.2 and the 7th July announcement is purely coincidental. :)

Good point - I guess we'll just have to wait a couple more days and find out.

Hope they add more international features into they widget with 10.4.2. Seriously, I'm getting tire of feature USA specific that are useless outside this country. PhoneBook widget (USA only), Dictionnary (english only) to name a few.

It's not like web ressource are missing for those translation or database. I'm still waiting a true multitasking Finder since 10.2 age. Hope PathFinder 4 come out soon. Hope it fix the preview in colum view with .avi files that hook up the finder. I have to force it to quit everytime it happen.

I still have problem opening Poser 6 in Tiger?! I apply the last patch but nothing seem to work, I try to delete preference and reinstall with all the patch, but nothing make it start?! I still have a Panther OS on an external HD for this alone, it's kind of boring.

I usually love updates as much as the next guy... that being said... I usually don't really wait around for them... I just use the computer and when an update comes out... it brings a smile to my face and I install it...

However...

This update I am extra extra anxious about and I've never been so anxious about a point release ever! I sure hope it fixes all the things in Tiger I've been having problems with.

My bigest conserns are the GUI responsivness... anyone notice choppy menu item selections?

Anyways... I sure hope they got my bug reports that I submitted!
