If I had to guess, Apple is planning on rolling out a huge update, probably the biggest of Tiger. They want everybody to be satisfied instead of saying "I am going to put Panther back on my machine". I am willing to wait for a quality update...

I really hope you are correct.

The state of OSX is not in a good place. Bad bugs all over the place. But it appears like Apple is aware and fixing the problems behind the scenes.

The big question is why did we get here in the first place? Why did a company like Apple release Tiger in this state? I hope Tiger doesn't reflect philosophical changes or the quality capabilities of Apple.

But Apple, if you are listening, take your time with 10.4.2. Just get all of the nasty bugs out.

Interestingly, I've had no problems at all with Tiger 10.4. Guess I'm not pushing the envelope hard enough! :) But, I've been waiting to buy the upgrade for our other machines which include some pretty old hardware. Maybe 10.4.2 will be the magic number...

I have found both 10.4 and 10.4.1 fairly decent with no crashes but i have noticed certain bugs....

Mainly my airport reception is not as good in 10.4.1 as it was in 10.4 and 10.3.9.....

Apart from that i have had no real problems except applications quitting and beachballing unexpectedly,

Therefore i am looking forward to 10.4.2 but am in no hurry so long as apple manage to iron out all the bugs and make it a good release..

ShadOW ;)

wow dude.... that, that right there... is pushing it.

Please, for the sake of all humanity, go outside, see the sun, mow your lawn, drink a beer... something. Just don't go off and harm an innocent puppy because it doesn't know the release date of 10.4.2 nor speaks English...

When it's out, it's out...

Today is a very positional day for the release! It has been awhile since the last reported build and Apple has historically released updates on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays... if Panther was any indication.

10.4.2 - Monday, July 11, 05

think of it this way...
11 + 05 = 16
AND
10 + 4 + 2 = 16
16 - 16 = 0 (WOAH)

Now you see what I mean, the release coincides with the date?
Well, I checked Software Update right now, at 16:16 local time, and still nothing... maybe GMT in about 2 hours or even Cupertino time in, what, 7 hours after that...?

:p

that was freakin' brilliant! (use british accent here)

I think "flippin'" would be acceptable as well.

Sure wish this thread would die... but we all know the only way to make that happen....

Bang on mate! ;)

I've got a copy of Tiger sitting here, but it's not going anywhere near my powerbook until they release 10.4.2. Hurry Up already!! (insert American accent here...) ;)

Being a world traveller and visitor to the UK on more than one occassion, I felt pretty confident with that one... ;)

Hurry up

I too wish they would just get on with it. I was away for two weeks and was sure 10.4.2 would be out when I got back. I am so fed up with Mail 2. I could even live with having to install a 10.4.2.2 in a few days if it wasn't quite right today.

By the way, why can't we just delete widgets by removing them from the library/widgets folder? That's what I've been doing. Perhaps that explains the blue smoke and funny whirring noise coming from my G5.

I think we can all identify with that. I initially thought it would come out before my mother came to visit midway through June so I could upgrade her iBook while i installed Tiger. Then I thought it would come out while I was in Scotland last week... and still nothing.

Nah... that's the leftover G8 protestors attacking your G5 for being a symbol of globalisation. :p

Yes, you can delete widgets that way. A widget manager is a 'smoother' solution for those Mac users who only even go into their Documents folder and think the Library is a shelved room for books.

Funny; I live in Scotland, but left it for two weeks. Perhaps that's the answer; if EVERYONE left Scotland they would actually bring out 10.4.2.

FWIW, I'm still not having any problems with my PB 1.5 GHz 15" using 10.4 or 10.4.1. Were it not for this forum, I'd assume 10.4 was as well-received as prior OS roll-outs.

It's a risk assessment. I've read too much in magazines, forums etc to bother putting it on and risk any apps breaking for the short-term or long term. 10.3.9 is running absolutely perfectly on both my macs at the mo (seriously - they are running sleek as hell). It's obviously only a matter of time till I load Tiger up but I can wait for 4.2 to convince me.

I completely agree with this statement! In fact, I am running 10.3.9 on this iMac 1Ghz and it completely flies compared to my new Dual 2GHz G5 armed with Tiger... i mean... really... just how can even my old Powerbook 550Mhz feel more responsive than a Dual G5!!!! ANYWAY, ROLL ON THIS BLOODY UPDATE!

I don't think Apple will release or even say anything this week. Steve doesn't want any attention that MacWorld Boston even exists. :(

I can't believe that, in this day and age, people still think that "Boston" really exists. C'mon, it's a myth, like Atlantis, Duke Nukem Forever, and Intel-based Macs.
