I use the flip4mac plugin, but it's very unstable to say the least (when embedded in sites, i haven't had any problems when playing a wmv thru the Quicktime application)...but supposedly the bugs will be worked out soon, anyway, it's definitely worth the $10 to say good riddance to WMP

i dunno.. this update is seriously overdue for a release... though i could see the 10.4.2 update as a reason for the new itunes phone to be compatible with tiger...

God I hope they fix Safari. I really thought they'd catch it with 10.4.1, but nope. Still crashes as much as Microsoft Word used to in Panther.

And I hope it's one of those "overall performance upgrade" things, because Tiger is really slow on my dual 2ghz G5 with 3gigs of RAM. Dashboard takes about 15 seconds to load each time with only 5 widgets.

Fishes,
narco.

hi narco, perhaps you have other issues, my 1.8 dual with 1.5 gigs of ram opens dashboard quick enough; maybe try xbench, i get about 190 overall, be interesting to see your score

cheers

I hope they reactivate the ability to search for invisible files. Oh, and Quartz 2D Extreme would be nice. ;)

It's already there...

Yeah... press Command-F, then choose "Other" from one of the pop-up menus. The number of options there is stunning (it seems to be every field in every database that Apple manages).

And note that you can add any of those Other items to your favorites, so you don't have to make regular trips to that Other menu.

WOW I haven't seen that before, well never exploreded. It is incredible how much different stuff you can search with Spotlight. Thanks for that tip.

Well the whole 7th July link has been squashed once and for all by Apple Insider:

It's no longer expected that Apple on Thursday will host a special event to introduce new music-related products. Sources now report that media alerts sent from Apple to several French publications were slightly misleading and misinterpreted.

In a message to the publications last month, the company asked that some time be reserved on July 7th when new products would be presented to them. Similar messages sent to the publications in prior months had resulted in media events that delivered Apple related goods.

Instead, sources say either Apple France or Apple Europe on Thursday will brief some media outlets on the latest iPod-related products. According to our checks, these products are existing Apple and third-party iPod accessories.

So 10.4.2 will come, quite simply, when it's ready. No new product to wait for, it just needs to be stable and ready. Sounds fair to me.

I have the same thing going on with my order: See attached pic.

My copy is supposed to be here on the 15th according to UPS. It was ordered the 10th, so I guess I will know then. :)

If you remember the thread started with a note about X.4.2 shipping soon. What happened with the above order? Has anyone else received information about their order that would suggest the original rumor was true? Otherwise I would like to put this one to sleep.

Apple is finally taking their time to get a release right. Nice.

100% Agreed.

Apple should take their sweet time and get this right. It would be too crushing to get this patch and still have all of the problems--or new ones.

Exactly. Like I said before, it will be released when it is ready to be released. These are the kind of things you don't want to be rushed, so just have patience and appreciate Apple for doing it right the first time.

Better widget memory managment sounds cool. They are really making this update as good as it possible it can get.

No new bug fixes were noted, so that means that are anhancing that build.
If there is no more bugd and averything is stable I am kind of a surprised that Apple is not realesing it. Which makes it even better for us cause this going to be one sweet update. :D

Or more like Apple for doing it right for the first time, the first time. :D

Another one down

And another week comes and goes without 10.4.2. It's been nearly a month since first predictions of it's "imminent" release. I hope this turns out to be the mother of all updates.

It has to be we will probably see the largest OS X update ever!!!!

SHadOW ;)

Things I'd like to see fixed in this release, since I don't have too many Tiger bugs.

1. Quicktime H.264 encodes come out looking pale and unsaturated. It's how QT Player displays the video, not the actual file itself is affected.

2. iPhoto bug with pictures becoming lighter and lighter.

3. Compressor 2 still encodes blocky MPEG2s. Although I hope this is also a 2.0.1 release.

We don't want it to get too large or Steve might think he should charge us for the upgrade. :D

If I had to guess, Apple is planning on rolling out a huge update, probably the biggest of Tiger. They want everybody to be satisfied instead of saying "I am going to put Panther back on my machine". I am willing to wait for a quality update...
