Hope this fixes my only real complaint about 10.4.1: Safari's tendency to crash a couple of times a day, each time after I close a tab...

Happen's more than a couple times a day for me.... really irritating..... i thought it was just something on my end, but i guess not.

What are these problems with Mail everybody is talking about??

Mainly losing all their old mail! Apparently there's a fix, but it's not easy, and can certainly cause a lot of angst.

edit: did you see the Safari fix posted on the previous page of this thread?

Regarding, Loosing old Mail. I usually try to keep an original copy in my service providers inbox, rather then having it deleted everytime Mail checks for new messages.... But very rarely do I check it, and it fills up fast and i'm at 100% of it being full, and I gotta delete a lot of mail before being able to recieve new messages again.

I'll have to check on the first page, for the Safari fix. thanks!

Speaking of QT, does anyone know if Tiger forces you to upgrade to Quicktime 7? Because I really don't want to pony up the money for QT Pro again....

Unfortunately u will have to buy the new pro version when u upgrade to tiger

VLC crashes for me too

I use VLC for the ones that Quicktime has trouble with except VLC crashes every time when you go from full screen to windowed... and then press play again. Does anyone else have that problem?

Yeah, ever since Tiger VLC has VERY annoyingly been crashing on me 85% of the time I go from full-screen to windowed. Very annoying.

I've had two crashes in the past two days also. I got a black screen yesterday coming out of sleep (first time ever) and this morning coming out of sleep my bluetooth mouse (Bluetake BT510) wasn't found then bluetooth itself froze and I had to force quit it, then restart to get it back.

I haven't had any Safari crashes at all. I'm loving the RSS feature. However, Firefox produces beachballs often. I switched to using the G4 optimized Deer Park build:

http://homepage.mac.com/krmathis/

I have the iPhoto problem too. I thought I found a way around it, but now nothing seems to work.

Overall my system seems to be very slooow. I have only a second delay loading Dashboard widgets, but it and Expose don't appear smoothly at all. GoLive is really, really slow too.

I don't use Mail. I won't until they get the awesome 3-pane view Entourage has.

Here is hoping that "no known issues" means that the high pitched "G5 chirp" is gone! Thats my only annoyance. Panther never did it so loud. Everything else is rock solid on my system, bring it home guys!

I ordered Tiger yesterday and the Apple Order Status says this:

Order Items: OS X V10.4.2 "TIGER" RETAIL-INT

Part No.: M9639Z/A

Est. Ship: On or before 06/16/2005

I have the same thing going on with my order: See attached pic.

My copy is supposed to be here on the 15th according to UPS. It was ordered the 10th, so I guess I will know then. :)

<end orig. thread message>

Just wondering, since Apple is already shipping 10.4.2, are they really still doing some tweaks for 4.2, or is it already finished? The last line of the AppleInsider article make me wonder (they speculate that Apple will still be doing some tweaks this week). So i guess the update should be available to all soon. I just hope that if they are tweaking it further, that us people that ordered Tiger and got the 10.4.2 disk can get the other tweaks that they offer via download.

As originally said, I will be finding this out on Wed (if UPS gets the shipment to me on time)

This may be the one that finally convinces me to try Tiger. Let's hope it fixes those Mail issues, which are the scariest ones for me.

Yes, Mail sucks in Tiger. I can't believe Apple botched such an important application. Here are some of the problems I'm having:

[1]Have items stuck in Drafts folder
[2]Mail doesn't quit after toggling between Normal/Threaded views
[3]Items in my three Inboxes disappear after doing [2]

If Mail still refuses to work, I'll have to use Thunderbird I guess... :(

I had a Mail problem, but I figured out what it is. To avoid a problem, back up everything (of course) and make sure you have at LEAST double the amount of the space your mail takes up. Say you have 3 gigs of email, make sure you have at least 6 gigs available space on your HD specifically for mail.

The reason being is that when you open Mail, it forces you to convert the files kind of like with Spotlight. If you run out of disk space and this conversion process isn't complete, it'll SAY it's complete, even though it's not. Then when you open Mail, everything is gone.

I tried everything again, made sure I had enough space and everything worked like a charm. I believe there were some other issues with other people, this is just what happened to me.

God I hope they fix Safari. I really thought they'd catch it with 10.4.1, but nope. Still crashes as much as Microsoft Word used to in Panther.

And I hope it's one of those "overall performance upgrade" things, because Tiger is really slow on my dual 2ghz G5 with 3gigs of RAM. Dashboard takes about 15 seconds to load each time with only 5 widgets.

10.4.1, not experiencing the Safari crashing issues, and Dashboard loads in less than half a second. 1.33 GHz / 1.5 GB AluBook

Does anyone also have problems uncompressing files with Stuffit? Finder quits every time, but when I try to uncompress the same file after the freeze-up, it works fine. I have to do this every single time.

Here is a list of a few of the Tiger bugs that I am experiencing:

Microsoft Mouse Bug - The mouse click stops working when you least expect it. (Then again since I am experiencing this problem with a Microsoft mouse I should read the box that the mouse came in to see if Microsoft calls this bug a "feature.")

<Macintosh HD>/Library/Widgets/ Directory Permissions Bug - Each time I repair permissions, Disk Utility sets the <Macintosh HD>/Library/Widgets folder's permissions incorrectly on one of my accounts. This ends up causing problems with some of my widgets.

Root Login Freeze that First Loads the Default Background - Sometimes when I login as root the computer fails to login all of the way and loads the default background for some odd reason. There is absolutely no way to log out (I tried everything I can think of) and the computer system is at a standstill. This bug ruins my uptime every time it occurs.

Delayed Network Airport Access After Sleep - It takes about 5 seconds for my Airport card to work properly after the computer wakes up. On Panther my Airport card connected me to the internet immediately after the computer woke up.

Here's hoping at least one of these problems is fixed in 10.4.2.

I've always had a problem decompressing Palm Desktop. After perusing the Palm web site, I found out that I should use the latest version of Stuffit (whatever that is). Don't know if this helps but...

Thumbs up to Tiger

a pity tiger wasn't a little more finely checked before release; but good to see that apple is actively working to fix issues in a timely manner.

I personally haven't had a single problem with Tiger yet. I don't know about all of these issues people are complaining about. At least the issues are minor and aren't entire system fail issues like some other operating systems out there. I think Apple has done an outstanding job with Tiger. The more updates are very welcome though. The more they can do to improve Tiger the better. But, I thought 10.4.0 was great.

I wouldn't even go near Palm until they release a Tiger version. I don't really like their software any how. I'm not touching anything Palm 'till they release Palm Desktop for Tiger. I can wait.

The only real problem I have with Tiger is Poser 6 that don't lauch. Even with the last update, anybody know a solution (already try to delete pref, reinstall, update it). A graphical tweak, unmounting disk image and disk seem to wait I reclick on them after ejecting it, to unmount it. Finder seem to bug in preview a DiVX movie in colum view, take a hell of a time, don't work and use 100% CPU for 10 min. I unlock the quit in Finder menu so when I accidently click on a .AVI in colum view!

Hope they reduce the memory and CPU usage of widget, it's annoying.

dashboard is so slow...to the point it's unusable. if i want to check weather or tv with widgets, it's so much faster to open up a browser window. when i hit f12 it takes forever for my widgets to load. i'm kind of disappointed in this.

Your disk is currently blank... waiting for 10.4.2 to be finished....

I have to manually open Stuffit Expander to make it work. 9.02

Who votes this as a negative? How is this bad? Anyway, 10.4.2 sounds like music to my ears.

Does anyone else have iMovie issues!? iMovie has been the biggest bitch...can't wait till they come out with fixes.

15 seconds!!!

on my ibook, it loads in like 5

Confirmed, on my PowerBook it takes, on average, less than a second or two, loading seven widgets. I backed up, erased everything, and ran a clean install of Tiger. No problems so far. I wonder if the people who are reporting slow Dashboard and other bugs ran a clean install or an upgrade? Or could it just be linked to the speed of network connection?
