Confirmed, on my PowerBook it takes, on average, less than a second or two, loading seven widgets. I backed up, erased everything, and ran a clean install of Tiger. No problems so far. I wonder if the people who are reporting slow Dashboard and other bugs ran a clean install or an upgrade? Or could it just be linked to the speed of network connection?

i just did an upgrade from 10.3.9

and it loads in or under 5 seconds with 11 widgets!

Here's also to hoping that Dashboard widgets and overall performance be fixed!!!!!! Both my weather widget and the clock don't work, and applications are taking more than three times more to start up than with Panther (or even Tiger .0

Daschund

You know, I couldn't be happier with Tiger. I have an iBook G3 500. I upgraded from Jaguar to Tiger, completely skipping over Panther (I was in Mozambique for two years, so I completely missed Panther), and I couldn't be happier. I haven't had any big problems (knock on wood). However, it's always great to see updates for the OS come out. It makes me feel safer about my computer. I say bring it on!

Although I'm not running Tiger myself, this is good news. From the sounds of it (on the Forums here at least) there are quite a few issues with Tiger, some minor, some major, so hopefully this will address a lot of them and make people a lot happier. :)

A few things I would like to see fixed are iPhoto, I will make adjustments to a photo and when I go to save the changes the program will totally screw up the picture. Safari, when I try to open the print window in Safari it crashes the program. And the overall system performance is lacking, it seems to hang on everything.

Happen's more than a couple times a day for me.... really irritating..... i thought it was just something on my end, but i guess not.

What are these problems with Mail everybody is talking about??

Those with Safari problems... did you do an Archive & Install or a direct Upgrade? Tiger's been working fine for me (Archive & Install) on my Dual 1 GHz MDD, but I had problems with WebKit when I did a straight upgrade to 10.3 (screwing up everything that used it, including Safari and Mail).

Great!!! A couple more updates and the release of a new kick ass PowerMac will get me ready to spend some money.

Now I have to wait another 4 months. :(

my widgets are reaaaally slow to load, about 15 s on 1.33 pb. i did an archive and install, this would be same as clean install right.

also someone posted something regarding "trueblueterminal" as being a malicious process...anyone else heard of this?

I just ordered Tiger tonight, and I saw on the order status page that 10.4.2. is shipping. It also says that it will ship on or before 6/14/05. Let's hope that's true and that Apple won't make us wait to have Tiger, even if it has the newest version (as you can always download the updates although it is easier if you don't have to download).

It sounds to me like you have the "TrueBlueEnvironment" Denial Of Service problem. Try downloading "PTHCpu" monitor (http://www.pth.com/PTHCPUMonitor/) and once thats up and running look for a process with the name "TrueBlueEnvironment", then issue a "kill <insert process ID here without brackets>" in the terminal and you're good to go.
That has to be one of the stranger possible ways of solving the problem. First of all, it appears that the monitor utility you reference hasn't been updated since 10.2.6 was current. It very well may not work right under Tiger. And as far as I'm concerned, Apple's built-in Activity Monitor lists processes and their ID numbers just fine, thank you.

Secondly, TruBlueEnvironment == Classic. If you're having problems with Classic, rather than killing it via the command line, I might suggest using the Stop button in the Classic pane of System Preferences, or, if that doesn't work, the Force Quit button. Or, if you're using Activity Monitor, use the handy Quit Process button that appears in the toolbar by default, or the Quit button that appears when you Inspect a process. There's no need to go to the command line unless you want to.

finally a specific ichat fix. it's never open for more than ten minutes before it crashes. safari crashes sometimes too, but not as often.

other than that, no problems. i consider that pretty good, seeing as i can always use firefox and adium. ;) :D

Also... Quicktime 7 playback is very slow on some movies. I use VLC for the ones that Quicktime has trouble with except VLC crashes every time when you go from full screen to windowed... and then press play again. Does anyone else have that problem? QT6.1 played any movie fine before.

Edit: Just installed VLC 0.8.2 Beta Test 2.... no more crashing problem :)
Yeah, VLC was pissing me off the other day doing that. I'll give the beta a test now and thanks for the heads up.

Isn't interesting Apple already introduces new retail boxes of Tiger? With Panther they waited for 10.3.5 to do so. What does it mean? I guess those who said Tiger wasn't finished when it became gold master were probably right. Apple wanted to ship Tiger at the end of April in order to get it out of the way for the Intel announcement at WWDC. So 10.4 and 10.4.1 were practically public beta and 10.4.2 is the "final" version. Given that 10.4.1 and 10.4.2 are big updates for such an early stage of the development process supports that theory.

I haven't had too many issues with 10.4.1. But my Dual G5's performance seems gind of wishy-washy. Some days it will feel smoking fast, with apps/dashboard launching instantly. Others, it feels pretty sluggish.

I hope Dashboard's speed can be improved a little through the next update.

Well now I have a choice. I just made images for our laptops at 4.1. Wonder what the fixes are, and will they be REALLY needed. I can re-image some, but I have 250 to finish in a few weeks.
Oh boy.

I hate to say it, but I would get the .2 update. Tiger is unbelievably buggy, as you can see from this thread.

It'll save you headaches down the road.

I, like many, have been shocked at how buggy Tiger is.

This update cannot come soon enough, and I really hope this is a major bug fixing upgrade. Tiger desperately needs it.

This weekend I had enough with Tiger. I reinstalled Panther. Hopefully this update will lure me back.

Like many others, I'm amazed Apple released Tiger when it did. To me, it's felt like a beta.

10.4.2 already? Gosh, I was just wishing for the iBooks to get finally updated. This news doesn't close that possibility though.

In response to my orig post about 10.4.2 shipping on DVD already.

Your disk is currently blank... waiting for 10.4.2 to be finished....
I hope you are pulling my leg....
Here is the larger pic of the Apple Order Page:
attachment.php

note the shipped date of 6/11/05

and here is UPS' tracking info, as regards to shipping:

note the scan date of 6/13/05

So it looks like my blank disk has already shipped, and was in Harrisburg PA, and is currently in transit to North Carolina.

So it looks like either i am not really getting 10.4.2, i am getting a blank disk, or i am getting 10.4.2 and apple is just holding off the internet release of the update.
