They probably track each individual retail box. It's not worth it.

Well if the box isn't sealed with tape or anything then be careful when you open it so you don't rip anything and then take out the DVD install it and when the new one arrives just switch the DVD's and take it back... Easy as PIE

I highly doubt that each retail box is trackable. To do that they would have to put individual SKU's on each box.

I plan on doing the same thing, buying Tiger tonight and returning the copy I get delivered on monday to the retail store.

do NOT refuse shipment. apple told me today that they automatically backlog refused shipment refunds and that they take 3 times longer. accept it, call them, they'll pay for shipping back.
Thanks for the info.

Sorry for the bad news, but Fedex just came here and they didn't have my copy of Tiger. I think this will probably be the same for everyone else in this shipment.

Sorry.

Tear. It looks like bad news all around I'm afraid.

I thought I told myself last night that I was resolved to not getting Tiger today? Guess that was a lie. Hey, just like the lie that Apple told us earlier today when they continued to reassure us that Tiger would arrive this afternoon!

Sorry I couldn't resist. :p

Guess my only option is Microcenter if I really want ti badly tonight. Ugh 72 more hours....until Monday.

Undeicded.

I was informed that all those that experienced this "unavoidable, unintended delay" would be getting a $15 credit back on the cards they used to order Tiger.
wow, I almost wish mine was delayed! $15.00 off would be nice! Well, FedEx dropped mine off at 2:00, hopefully I'll get a chance to install it tonight.

I would rather have it today than delayed

What if I did this....

I got to the Apple store tonight, buy Tiger at full price. Install it tonight and have all my fun. Then, when FedEx finally delivers my Educational copy on Monday, I do not open it and return it as if it were the copy I bought tonight, getting by $129 back.

Possible? Or just more of a hassle than shipping it back?

I think that might be worth the try, for then you end up paying your deserved educational price.

FYI

i just called fedex again. i asked them to do a literal package check to see where EXACTLY my package was. they put me on hold for a few minutes and said they're certain it's still in newark and that it will not be delivered until monday (may 2).

i told them they should be aware that apple is telling everyone that their shipments will arrive today and that people should ignore what fedex is saying. the woman on the phone every so delicately told me to ignore what APPLE says, because apple is not the shipping company. she said they know better than apple when they will ship.

she also said this is apple's fault, because they were counting on fedex delivering 2-day packages EARLY, which is ridiculous.

she said, and i quote, "i promise you this package will not arrive before its scheduled date, which is may 2. no matter what apple tells you."

and, since it's 430PM, i believe her. i'm off to the apple store soho at 5:30 to buy a copy.

bleh.

I am at Apple SOHO store, around the corner at almost at the end of the black.
Is any one is here?

Newark, NJ, my second favorite city. Right behind Middletown, PA of course!

Got my Tiger today! Went and picked it up from TNT as they were going to deliver tomorrow. I have noticed a big speed increase over Panther so far on my powerbook! :)

Need an answer, PLEASE!

Ok, I need to check if anyone on here used the up-to-date service for tiger, and HAS received it. The lady from apple said that the up-to-date versions ship out today (29th). Is there anyone out there that has gotten it from the up-to-date program! Thanks!

Mine shipped about an hour ago apparently. And no tracking number, DHL Worlwide to Canada.

So let me get this straight. Those of us that paid thousands of dollars for new computer equipment and $12 to pay to ship something that probably only costs a couple of dollars have to wait longer than those who only spent $129? I'm not saying I want mine first, but I'm just curious why Apple would delay all the up-to-date copies - they're smaller packages and we just dropped a wad of cash!

Ordered my new Power Mac system today with Tiger preinstalled. I am not sure how fast it is yet, but I bet it is faster than this 1.67 GHz AMD system running Windows. :D

3rd In Palo Alto Store Queue: Tiger Installed in no more than 10 minutes

I thought I would have to wait the whole 40 minute drive to Palo Alto and it was installed when I got in the car to leave. Amazing. So far no problems and no differences I can perceive yet. :)

I got here about 4 pm PDT. 20 minutes to the opening on the west coast. How are the parties in eastern time zones going? :p

well, i waited in line for about 20 minutes at the apple store in Somerset Mall in Troy, Michigan. I got the Family pack of tiger right away.

They gave me a scratch off card and i won 10% off a purchace.
Although i entered again with my dad this time and i won an iTunes
song and he won an iPod Shuffle. About 2 minutes and 10 people later
someone won a powerbook. *sigh* We missed it by like 2 minutes.

My package didn't arrive. I took the trip out to Long Island to buy Tiger for $80. As a matter of fact I'm using Tiger right now and It's awesome.

Just got an email from Other World Computing. I saved $30 but the new ETA is May 5th. Oh well, it's not going on a production machine until 10.4.1 arrives (and a Retrospect patch comes out).

BTW, a good friend's up-to-date copy shipped today from the Apple Store via US Postal with no tracking number.

Just got off the phone with a very helpful and friendly rep at Apple. Due to "some issues between FedEx and Apple" there were "just some delays" that cause some "10-15%" of Tiger orders to be delayed. As a consolation, they were offering free copies of either iLife or iWork (your choice) with free overnight shipping.

I must say, after paying nearly half the retail price for the EDU version, I am almost satisfied to recieve Tiger three days late if it means getting a free copy of iLife out of the deal.

Yeah. It is awful Apple didn't deliver some of these orders, but I'm really glad they are coming through with compensation.
