the $169 has ilife and iwork on it, which is perfect, as i was going to buy ilife as well as 10.6 (running tiger). what a deal, only 30 bucks for ilife and iwork, i'm pre ordering asap.

Open CL will not work on my macbook. It has an Itel GMX3100 :(

... What worries me is what about a clean hard drive....

That's what I'm worried about too. Sure, it's great right now, but what if, in six months, I have a hard drive crash, install a new HD and want to install Snow? Will I have to buy a whole new copy? Will I have to go through the process of finding then installing Leopard then upgrade it to Snow? It seems like it is potentially a lot of headache...

The $29 upgrade price makes this an immediate buy for me. Would love for my MacBook to run smoother with all of the new Snow Leopard features.

Great news. But I'm going to wait until some popular apps catch up and update their software to work with 10.6.

Sweet, I can't wait to see how much better Snow Leopard will be - and as others have mentioned: $29 isn't even a consideration. I'll be at the Apple Store the day it's released :)

By the way, Macs purchased between today and when Snow Leopard ships in September are eligible or a free upgrade to Snow Leopard via the Up to Date program.

Also, some interesting features:

- Faster Time Machine backups (No mention of official support for AirPort Extreme Base Stations)

- 640x480 iChat video

- Contextual services menu

- Improved disk (local or network) eject

- Bonjour Wake-on-LAN for file sharing and Apple TV (when using a Time Capsule or AirPort Extreme base station)

You'll never see Microsoft sell a Windows product for $29. Go Apple!

Well, Snow Leopard is really just polishing up the already-excellent Leopard and laying the foundation for the future.

So if Windows 7 is really just polishing up the deeply-flawed Vista and NOT making much-needed changes to the foundation.... maybe $19? :p

What about those of us using tiger, stupid enough not to upgrade to leopard and go straight to 10.6. How much do we have to pay? If it`s 29 + 129 for leopard then I m gonna kick myself so hard...... I could have just bought the damn thing when it was launched and simply upgraded it now.

no way! he said it's $129, which means $129 for tiger users. Don't worry, you'll be fine!

Tech specs up

Tech specs posted:

Looks like a bunch of machines are not going to be able to take advantage of some of the new features.

My sad MacPro1,1 can't take advantage of OpenCL :(

I'm guessing that even on older hardware like the MacPro1,1 or the White Macbooks with X3100, Snow Leopard will run at least as good as Leopard does today?

Nice price... but I also wonder how many features we'll actually be able to see up front immediately with that kind of price. I'm still quite wary of "you get what you pay for" in the technology industry :(

I bought a new iMac in January. I hope that qualifies as owning Leopard, and I hope since I bought it from the online store they can easily verify that I own it and qualify if I do. This is huge and exciting news. :D
