Heres something I'm curious about... the GPU acceleration, will that work only with the newest nVidia GPUs or will those of us with the older ATI X1600 chips get a boost also...

Balls to your Macbook, my Mac Pro with its X1900 isn't even supported!

MEGA WOUND
The X1900 isn't unified shader.

That seems to be the deal breaker in general. You're going to need a Radeon HD 2xxx or nVidia GeForce 8 Series at the minimum to make that mark.

Will the full version effectively cost $169?

Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.
If your Intel-based Mac is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, purchase the Mac Box Set (when available), which is a single, affordable package that includes Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard; iLife ’09, with the latest versions of iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, and iDVD; and iWork ’09, Apple’s productivity suite for home and office including Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

I know it says in the tech specs that Snow Leopard will work with an Intel processor but I NEED to ask this ... Does that include the 32-bit Core Duo processors of the early 2006 Macbook/Macbook Pros ??

I'm somewhat disappointed, but not surprised, that they chose to go Intel-only with 10.6. I know a few people (including my mom) with G5 Macs that are still happily chugging along; but oh well.

I'm looking forward to Snow Leopard though - especially with the family pack only costing $49. I wonder if I'll get an academic discount? :p

Very nice. I was waiting on news of Snow Leopard more than anything and this really delivered. The family pack is a no-brainer for my household once again, even though my legacy Macs won't benefit from it this time around.

Was planning on holding back on buying my next Mac depending on what they did about the Up To Date plan but not only did they deliver on that front but they made the family pack so cheap I don't even care about the Up To Date offer any more! Great stuff.

Of course, why wouldn't it? If it wouldn't it would be a complete scatstorm

Too good to be true!
29 bucks! This is a smart move Apple! Who's thinking about Win 7, now?
:D:D:D:D:D

How much you wanna bet Windows 7 Ultimate will cost 300+ :D

This is a great deal for users of Leopard, nice move Apple. The 50% price cut on the server version indicates that Apple has the enterprise in sight ... YES :D

I'm a little disappointed that we do not get the Marble interface (10.7?) but the $29 upgrade price has sold it for me.

I still might wait for a patch (10.6.1) before I get it to avoid the inevitable bugs that always happens in a .0 release

That's what I'm worried about too. Sure, it's great right now, but what if, in six months, I have a hard drive crash, install a new HD and want to install Snow? Will I have to buy a whole new copy? Will I have to go through the process of finding then installing Leopard then upgrade it to Snow? It seems like it is potentially a lot of headache...

As a hard core user who has restored from a crash, I have only two words for you: "Time" "Machine"!

I was actually gunna skip Snow Leopard and wait for the OS after that, but at this price (about £15-£20) its such a bargain it would be silly not to upgrade.

It will install and work on it, and you'll see benefits. Just not as many benefits as the later Macs with their beefier specs, I guess. Same as how Leopard works beautifully on this G5 I'm typing on but some of the shiny features are limited to Intel machines.

I'll be holding off on Snow Leopard on my 2.16 GHz Mid-2007 MacBook with GMA950. I want to see if there will be any speed benefits on it.

Can anyone (dev., someone generally smarter than me, etc.) comment on what someone such as myself will experience with Snow Leopard on my machine?

Really great. Surely gonna get it. I just hope that programs like Adobe's and Apple's professional programs will work with it...

Yeah, Snow Leopard looking really good! But I also wonder about the Adobe and other programs!? Hope it won't be payed update time again... :(

Will M$ Get A Clue?

Anyone here think that Micro$oft will follow suit and price their Windows 7 upgrade from Vista accordingly? I haven't seen any announcements on price and I am running Windows 7 in boot camp. But I will not purchase it if the pricing is astronomical, which is typical for M$.

At $29 why wouldn't you upgrade?

it's really simple... if you have leopard installed already then you can install the upgrade disk. I am sure that you will still be able to do a erase and install.

after that if you ever need to do a erase and install and you already have snow leopard installed i'm sure it will work too....

apple won't make this complicated. they are smarter than that.

Safari 4 shipping with SL?

For $29, you bet your boots I am going with SL when it comes out!
Right now I'm using Safari 3.2.3. I think I read SL will have Safari 4 bundled with it. Can anyone confirm this? I know I could go download Safari 4 right now, but if it's bundled with SL, I think I'll just wait till then to get it.
Thanks for any info!
