Maybe the GM seed comes out Wednesday ?

I don't think they will seed GM at all. It'll be kept internally at Apple and their top ADC members.

Or maybe they stopped seeding through software update, or maybe there really isn't any schedule?
Most likely that's the story. Apple may have entered the RC build stage and usually it is best to seed the RC as a complete image instead of a software update and they might have closed the seeding programs to only certain ADC members as they no longer need the wider beta testing. Also this would meet the leaked key builds schedule of having the final build done by late July and early August.

I think we're done in terms of eye candy. I don't see what else that can be changed now.
Oh, I dunno. Maybe make aqua elements match their iPhoto/iTunes counterparts so we can have a more consistent UI?

I really hope they do away with the shiny blue Aqua. It's old. Matte blue/graphite is the new Aqua. What better than Snow Leopard to finally implement it system-wide.

And if they don't, at least there will be a modder out there that will come out with a replacement Extras2.rsrc file within the first day.

I use iLeopard (with a few minor mods) to achieve this in Leopard. And it works quite well. So, I figure Apple could do the same thing in SL without having to worry about notifying dev's since it doesn't break anything UI-wise.

But I can also tell you, having poked around in Extras.rsrc and the ArtBin files, there are A LOT of things to change. Also, some apps (iTunes, iWork) have some of the UI elements internally. It's something Apple needs to do, but it's a far bigger job than one might expect.

Has there been any confirmation if Adobe CS4 will work okay with SL?
How long did it take for Adobe to release an update fix when CS3 clashed with the initial Leopard release?

I'd also heard that it was better not to get first releases of operating systems due to initial glitches etc, if I was purchasing a new mac, would I be better to buy now and update to SL later this year/early next year, or buy as soon as they are shipping with SL?

Will it make any difference if SL is installed on top of Leopard rather than a clean install?

Being that SL is just a very tweaked enhancement to Leopard, I don't think there will be an issue with CS4.

The whole upgrade vs. clean install is psychological. There really is no difference. What's going to be the deciding factor for me is can the upgrade be installed cleanly without me having to install Leopard first. If SL just needs me to pop in the Leopard disc really quick, then fine. If not, I'll have to get the full version of SL.

That has always been my philosophy regarding new releases, but SL may be somewhat different in that it is primarily an optimization release. Still, there will probably be things that don't work in the first release so you may still be better off buying now and upgrading at a later date.

Back with another tip:

[1] Open exposé
[2] Start typing the name of the window you want (e.g. MacRumors... iCal...)
[3] Hit return…

I guess it is an obvious enhancement, now it has been implemented…

I think a lot of pros will like this as if you know what the window is called it is probably quicker to type the first few characters than go hunting for it (particularly if you have a lot of active windows).

For reference in Leopard typing whilst in exposé view does nothing.

Just to be clear to other people reading this, there will be some applications that won't work right out of the box on SL 64bit. Any applications that uses a 32bit extension will not work in 64bit SL, the most famous will be Little Snitch as it has a 32bit extension hooked in to the OS for the monitoring and firewall setting. Logitech drivers may not work either. Those applications will work fine if it were to be used in 32bit SL. Current versions of CyberDuck doesn't work either and needs to be recompiled for SL.

As an aside from Snow Leopard, anyone got some fun SIGGRAPH or HTML5 inks I can collate in this post?

10.5.8 is out
Which means full steam on Snow Leopard in my book.

So here's a question - does Apple have time to bring in more of a theme change now, with only 5 weeks to release pretty much? Curious suggestion that the iTablet if it's coming will be decent resolution (dots per inch) dpi and might hint at new theme. So if Tablet is previewed at iPod event, then they could show the theme/ Snow Leopard just before launch?

@chrisferebee If the UI in #SnowLeopard 10a421 is final, well, those Dock menus must be getting ready for convergence w/SOMETHING

I probably would have never thought to do that. Even though you can do it pretty much anywhere else. In Finder windows, in Dock Stacks, in menus.

Snow Leopard is not a "very tweaked enhancement" of Leopard. It is a rewrite of Leopard with some new technologies included. Snow Leopard is an optimization release so much of the code is rewritten to some degree. Stuff that looks the same on the surface may be very different at the code level. This could very well cause apps that work fine under Leopard to break under Snow Leopard.

It is not as simple as moving from a 32-bit kernel to a 64-bit kernel either.

Saying there won't be any conflicts between Leopard and Snow Leopard is very wrong. There are plenty of conflicts. But I will say that CS3 still works fine for me. I would hope CS4 would too.

In fact, DragThing no longer lets me change any settings in SL if the Dock icon is turned off. (Menubar mode)

I'm using tiger and it all works fine and skipped leopard altogether but i have another partition setup for installin SL.

I'm not too concerned about whether any applications won't work on it yet because everything I need works in tiger. And the only thing I'm interested that works in SL is Logic 9...and my interface..and some plugins.

However, I hope I can just purchase SL alone and not that $169 thing with stuff in there I never use...hell, I never use any of those iLife apps that comes with the OS.

i have one question.. if I buy mac now i can upgrade leopard to snow leopard for 30 or 10$?? one official site is for 10$ but i heard somwhere that is more expensive.. and can I upgrade it with iTunes gift card?

You are eligible for the Up to date program which is $9.95, details can be found here

http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/

I don't think you can pay with an iTunes gift card.

What do I get with the Up to date program - can I make a clean new installation with it or do I always have to install 10.5 first an than update to 10.6 ?

It's the same disc as the upgrade disc for 29$. You can do a clean install if you want by using the "Erase and Install" installation method.

I don't think you need a 10.5 installed first tho, we'll have to find out when it actually comes out.

Ive been hearing that finder has been rewritten, Im wondering if the multitouch gestures are now implemented in finder?

Its getting annoying getting so used to three finger "back" swipe and then not having it in finder

The three fingers swipe works fine here on SL for Finder.

Three finger swipe works in Finder on Leopard. Has done since they brought out the multi-touch trackpad.

Your guess on Snow Leopard release date

iPods before or after Snow Leopard?
Ok, for those wanting to stick there neck out - we've got an iPod event, the Touch will be getting updated right around the Zune HD launch, Snow Leopard is only weeks away, and iTablet rumours are flying around. So what's your guess that Snow Leopard will be available in (Apple) shops? Will it be before the iPod event, or after? Will we see iPods, Touchs and 10.6 before TomTom can get their act together for their notsousefulifyouhaveacoveronyouriPhone/Touch dock and SatNav app? (TomTom event planned Tuesday 22nd September 2009) Likely iPod event dates - Tuesday September 1st, or 8th.

18 or so days after the last seed, I'd say the fast cycle of seed releases has finished - which i'd say meant a pretty final seed in 14 days or so, with it unlikely to get a new seed till then. Agree? Disagree?

Edit - as OllyW points out:
Tiger was released - Last Friday of April 2005
Leopard was released - Last Friday of October 2007
