Thinksecret (insert "Thinksecret has no credibility" here) just posted a story about a Leopard-dependant Final Cut Pro 6 suite that will be released at NAB in April. How can they release and demo FCP 6 without Leopard already being out?

Exactly

Here's the story:
http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0702finalcutpro6.html

The words were "including the incorporation of many Leopard-dependent technologies".

That doesn't mean that the program will not run on Tiger.

When iLife '06 was released, it had many "Tiger dependent features". This simply meant that you had to have OS X Tiger to use certain features. But, the program would run just fine on Panther if you didn't need those particular features.

And, for the record, I used it on both Tiger and Panther.

As for demoing it's capabilities, they could demo it on a beta of Leopard on the stage to show what it can do once the upcoming Leopard is released. He could easily state look at all the great things it can do now. And, look at these cool features that will be enabled under the upcoming Leopard.

Happy, so happy

Though unconfirmed, Financialwire.net claims that Apple's Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard will be shipping by the end of March "according to sources."

This date corresponds to an earlier report from ThinkSecret that Leopard development was "wrapping up faster than many at Apple even anticipated". Based on this earlier report, the new versions of iLife '07 and iWork '07 are expected alongside Leopard.

Even after many false rumors about potential Apple media events, buzz continues about the possibility of a future Apple release event.

So happy, I can not wait... Every day in Soho Apple store to see if Leopard arrived.....Please add a new Mac book too.... Thanks

You're probably right, but it would be silly if they released FCP 6 and told buyers, "Sorry, the super cool features we just showed you won't be available until leopard comes out in X months." I would think that they would want leopard rolled out before that time, while still keeping most of the program backwards compatible with Tiger, just without the pretty core-animation stuff.

True, it would be ideal to have Leopard available first. I'm hoping they do.

I think it's quite possible that Leopard could be released at the end of March, as that would be just as the beginning of spring. Not to mention that with Vista out, Apple will want to get Leopard out the door as quickly as possible.

'Spring' lasts until June 20...and it sounds like Tiger is nowheres near stable enough to be released anytime soon, according to developers.
I would rather wait and release a stable, glitch-free build of Tiger, than rush it to market like they did with Panther, only to see it embarrasingly misbehave.

Tiger's been out for more than a year and a half. You mean Leopard :)

Do you think someone under Apple's payroll will want to look remotely like Bill Gates or Steve Balmer even under the threat of death? :)

Most people don't think of June as "Spring".

Anyway Windows Vista is out now, if Apple wants to "wow" the world now is the time, before people are locked away for the next upgrade cycle.

Wouldn't be the first time. I remember last year he had one of his shiny new systems crash in the middle of showing it off on stage. He had to switch to another computer to finish the show. Bill's familiar with that one.

But, of course, no-one cares when it happens to Steve. We subconsciously block it and believe that he never makes a mistake.

Now, if I could only remember which show it was.

Or, before they buy a new PC with Vista and don't bother giving Apple a second look.

Leopard with Macbook

Do you think this new release of Mac OS X will increase speed of new macbook Intel Core 2 Duo ?

Do you think this new release of Mac OS X will increase speed of new macbook Intel Core 2 Duo ?
Yes, I do, given that previous major releases of Mac OS X have generally been faster on the same hardware - for example, the 10.3 to 10.4 upgrade. Many users here said their Macs felt "snappier" after upgrading.

Leopard Optimization

Do you think this new release of Mac OS X will increase speed of new macbook Intel Core 2 Duo ?

Leopard will be the first version of OS X to be fully optimized for the Intel
Core 2 Duo 64-BIT processors, and will not have the window resizing delay experienced with the previous versions:)

Good Call....

Very true, and Apple would never demo anything which isn't ready for prime time. Leave that to Redmond......

Well, except for:

OS X Tiger
MacBook Pro
OS X Leopard
Apple TV
iPhone

and, I'm sure others that were demo'd well before they were finished

Not saying that ready for prime time implies being ready to ship, but stable enough to present to a discerning crowd of techies and enthusiasts.

Gotta keep up with
MS, ya know, why they're almost caught up to OS 8.5............

I am certainly not a MS troll on this list, so please take this comment in the spirit in which it was intended: something intended not as propaganda or polemic, but simply to begin a debate. With these caveats duly noted . . . .

MS releases Excel which gradually is refined so that it knocks off Lotus.
MS releases Xbox which gradually is refined so that it assumes its place alongside PS and Nintendo.
Is anyone else concerned that Vista is catching up with OS X? I remember bumper stickers that said "Windows 98 = Mac OS 8.5" so I think it is a bit unfair to say that Vista hasn't been refined at all; clearly it has and it is an obvious rip-off of Tiger. If Leopard doesn't have any of the "secret features" that Steve hinted at last year, which is what I secretly fear, there will be less distinction between the current version of OS X and Windows than ever. Does this worry anyone else?

No.

Apple have a excellent track record of bringing a steady stream of innovations to market.

There will be good reasons for not revealing the hidden features last summer. It won't be just marketing hype.

When Steve said with a wry smile “we have some great things planned for the Mac in 2007” he no doubt meant every word of it (it's not something that needs to be said otherwise) and all we have to do is be patient.

Competition is good. The better Windows is, the better OS X and Linux will have to be.

Also, I'd prefer to use OS X 10.2 to Vista. It's not about who has the longest feature list, it's about which OS is more enjoyable to use.
