I have already offered a solution to your dilemma and that is to partition your HDD. No requirement to new anything.
The Eye-One calibration software is PPC only, they have not shipped a single update in the three or four years since I bought the hardware.
And even though it will likely work to do a display calibration under SL and then copy the created profile to Lion, I would not want to guarantee that this will work. The profile contains LUTs, to be uploaded to the graphic card, there are things that can go wrong when copying such low-level configuration files from OS to OS.

People using old scanners really should learn about TWAIN drivers, and/or VueScan. You choose to keep using ten-year-old computer hardware, it's on you to keep it running. Not anyone else.

Ten-year-old, what are you talking about?! My film scanner is two months old, my flatbeds are two and five years old. In the scanning-printing world Mac gets the leftover time developers have after writing drivers and software for Windows. When was the last time a developer had leftover time?

Never heard of legacy software then?

I'm sorry, but this is just beyond stupid for Apple to do this. My old games and programs won't work on their new OS, and yet the very same games and programs will work perfectly on Windows 7?

Forget it Apple.

Are you serious??

Time to get rid of legacy, superfluous code. Go play old games and run old programs on an old computer. Pick up a used G4 or something and let the rest of the industry step into 2011. Or get a Dell and run the whatever awful current version of Winblows is out there.

Note to Apple: cut, cut, cut. And keep cutting! Slim that code down and get rid of waste and legacy code.

Buy yourself a new computer, let her use the old one. Solution found.

I keep seeing pictures and screenshots with no desktop icons - they haven't gotten rid of those have they?

Clearly I wasn't talking to you, since you haven't said what your hardware is. Others have, and it is ancient.

I have an HP "wireless" printer (2009) that has never worked wirelessly with OS X. I don't blame it on Apple. I blame it on HP sucking a fat one. It's their machine, not Apple's. It's their responsibility to make sure it works if they're going to sell it under that pretense.

This is stupid! I just bought a new laptop, and my VHS tapes won't fit into the Blu-ray drive slot!

Im so pissed at Sony! Im getting my money back!

BootCamp. Problem solved. Sounds like a lot of people complaining that they hardware of software will be irrelevant come Lion's release. No problem do not upgrade initially and in the meantime get on those software and hardware developers to update they aging drivers and products to x86.

What do you expect :apple: to support PPC for another 5 more year, will this still be enough time for those software and driver developers to release something compatible then. Chances are if they have not done so, they don't plan on anytime in the next 5 years.

Seems like Lion has just provided more time for your wife and you. ;):D

I have plenty of legacy software that I found new software that replaced it. You can't stick with the same old software forever. It never happens. Not Apple's fault that you refuse to update your software or push the developer to update the software. Apple is doing what it can and should do.
By saying that, you clearly do not understand the term "legacy." Having Rosetta as an optional download will not hurt anybody. Apple is... well, I have no idea what the hell Apple are doing apart from unnecessarily dropping support for at least 10% of their Apps.

Are you serious? Buy another computer? Tell me, why the hell should I buy another computer to run my old apps on when I can just a Windows box which can run them all with no problems?

Why miss it? Get an emulator and pull out your old OS discs. I still play SimCity and Another Fine Mess, for example, regularly. :)

I tried looking for good emulator, but it seems like the one I found didn't support OS 9.2 or (I may be remembering this wrong). But maybe I've been using the wrong ones, any good suggestions? :)

Address Book looks awful. If Apple adds back the bluetooth implementation they dropped in Leopard, I might forgive them.

My Windows XP machine did a better job of bluetooth plus phone than Tiger ever did.

I prefer Basilisk personally. I think I run 9.1 on it, couldn't say for sure about 9.2. It would also depend on having the right ROM for it--9.2 clearly won't work with a ROM for, say, a Macintosh SE. The "proper" thing to do is use the ROM from an actual working machine that you own, that is compatible with the OS you want to use... ;)

Edit to Add: Sorry, I meant SheepShaver. I was using Basilisk for OS6 and 7 emulation.

Bejeweled 2 works fine for me in Lion, it's a Universal app on my Mac.

The disappearing scroll bars would have been annoying but fixable. Lack of Rosetta? That's it for me. Definitely not upgrading.

No Civ II or SMAC anymore :(

Granted 10.6 broke SMAC full-screen and Civ II crashed every few hours, but it was really cool to see programs still functioning a decade or more years later.

I hope this means the Classic on Intel (via Sheepshaver) and virtualizing Tiger/Leopard/SL on Lion gets some attention by the niche community.
