Apple's Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6 officially launched today, though to much shorter lines than previous launches. Snow Leopard reviews started appearing a couple of days ago and most found it to be a worthy upgrade especially for the $30 upgrade price.

Apple has posted a number of support documents detailing changes and tips for the new Mac OS X operating system:

- Bootcamp 3.0 FAQ
- 10.6 Wake on Demand
- New Gamma Settings
- Incompatible Software
- Battery menu changes
- Printer and Scanner compatibility

More discussion and support can be found in our forums.

I'm home, and it just arrived. Will begin installing on my 1st gen MBP with Core Duo soon. The Fed Ex lady said she had a LOT more of these to deliver today, so that's good!

Installing now on my 2008 MBP. Telling me it will take about an hour, not 15 minutes like all the reviews yesterday said.

Can anyone who has been to a retail store today confirm whether or not they're giving away t-shirts?

I got mine this morning and just finished installing it - works great so far!

simple easy to install, however my installation got hung up (not froze, just wouldn't restart) trying to restart itself, so I had to manual push my power button and restart it, then it worked fine, like 25 minutes.

- expose definitely looks different with a blue border around the tile images.
- new quicktime icon
- mail update took 1 minute with all my mailboxes.

other finds:
battery icon replacement?

I love the new right-click Burn-to-disk feature (finally!), but whatever a previous Leopard update magically fixed that made my MacPro at home show up in Finder via Back to my Mac, has been broken again by SL.. :-(.. can't get to my home machine now..

No t-Shirts at the Glasgow store

Installed on both my iMac and Macbook and both working like a charm so far nice little speed boost and some of the little tweaks are nice

Running well but .....

Got it this morning around 11 AM from FedEx.
Took 45 minutes to upgrade in place, no issues what so ever.

However it comes up as 32 bit kernel and not 64 bit kernel by default.

I have a MBP Unibody 5,1 system

If I hold 6 and 4 during the boot process it comes up as 64 bit, and seems to run fine.

If I reboot and do not hold the 6 and 4 key it goes back to 32 bit kernel. Not sure why it defaults to 32 bit.

Anyone knows why Apple would default it to 32 instead of 64?
Anyone knows how to make it default to 64?
Anyone knows if switching between GPU, does it still require to logout?
Can SL now use both GPU's to speed things up?

Any input appreciated
Thanks

I love the fact that Bootcamp 3.0 allows you to read Mac volumes.

I also love the new Wake On Demand feature. I use a free internet service called LogMeIn that allows you to access your Mac (or PC) from any other computer. I could never access my iMac from work because my iMac was always asleep. Hopefully (I'll try it when I install it tonight), this will allow me to access it even when it's asleep.

And display color calibration doesnt work anymore!!

It always "jumps" to one strange calibration. No matter what I set up, it is ignored and the screen looks just the same again!!:mad::mad:

How can this be fixed??? :(

Well S___

Bought two new macs and ordered the update SL for 9.95, expected to see them today....naw they shipped via Snail mail with expected delivery of Sept 1.

Apple that ain't right........:(:(:(

just got back from picking up my copy. wow, SL was flying off the shelves at my University's tech store. the guy in the back was handing them to cashiers as quickly as he could grab them.
now i have to wait until after work to get home to install... :(
