My SL is still riding around Long Beach on a FedEx truck. I hate how incosistent they are!! Some days they're here at 8AM. Other days, 6PM. You'd figure the drivers would have a general route to follow.

Maybe it will be delivered with a beach ball or two. :D

And display color calibration doesnt work anymore!!

It always "jumps" to one strange calibration. No matter what I set up, it is ignored and the screen looks just the same again!!:mad::mad:

How can this be fixed??? :(

what color calibrator are using? I use the spyder 3 pro and its working fine. Any way some things actually seem slower after upgrading and others faster. safari seems much faster but things like skype and the spyder 3 software and other 3rd party programs seem slower. safari also seems to be using about half the ram on average then when I was using 10.5 weird lol. The gamma changes are bothering me a little but I will get used to it. I also seemed to gain about 10gb's of free space!

mine says ship on sept 1. so much for 'order today and get by 28th'. screw you amazon

That only works if you buy it from Apple. If you order from Amazon they don't receive their stock until the day before or the day of the release. Usually I buy most of my stuff on Amazon EXCEPT OS releases.

My FedEx guy said to me "I have your Snow Leopard for you", he said his truck has a bunch for all the people in my small town of about 30,000 people. So I asked him how many he had, he said he lost count but that he had a lot of them. At that I said that I was surprised about the number of Macs in the town, and he said there were a lot. So I asked him if he had a Mac since he knew what was in these boxes and he said no, that he is waiting for his PC to die to get a Mac.

well whats he waiting for. :D

I checked the Delivery Status app on my iPhone - DELIVERED! Also, Madden 10 for my PlayStation 3 Slim coming on Monday. :)

In one hour I will be at home sitting on my comfy chair, installing Snow Leopard, while having a couple of Samuel Adams Boston Lager beer. ;-)

Well. It's now 10.45pm in the UK and my Snow Leopard DVD hasn't arrived yet. I think it's safe to say that it won't get here now and I'll go to bed :p

However, with the news that Parallels Desktop 3 doesn't work, I probably won't be able to install it just yet anyway. Still a bit worried about CS3 too, although the panic on that front has calmed down a little.

Perhaps it'll arrive tomorrow? Bank Holiday here in the UK and rumours of a postal strike today haven't helped. Oh well, sometime next week it'll drop through the letterbox perhaps!

VLC works for me on SL.

It works. Either download the beta from their site or right click and change the file type preferences to be opened with QT. Otherwise if you try to open it it will say you need QT. Flip4Mac is trying to open it by itself. I almost went ape s*** until I realized this.

kinda lame. i get sucked into preordering and everyone else gets to enjoi it before me.. they should have shipped it earlier to match the dates up.. way to b an ass apple

I did mine with Amazon with a Amazon.com Gift Card (I thought it would make things move faster) and I wish Apple would have Pre-Orders Early then I would have done it through Apple. To top it all of Amazon.com used UPS these bastards don't come over here till after 5:30pm! They just ganked me for $8.99 for 2-Day Shipping! The package is shipping from Coffeyville KS by UPS Ground which would have got here by Tuesday anyways! This is what I got from customer servce

Hello,

I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused. We use a variety of carriers that we've found provide the best service for our different shipping options and assign a carrier automatically when we ship your order.

I just wanted to let you know that, our Standard Domestic shipping is done by the U.S. Postal Service, UPS, FedEx, and A1 Courier Service. If you select Two-Day or One-Day Shipping, your package may be delivered by UPS, FedEx, or A1 Courier Service. These shipments are delivered on weekdays only.

Also, after your order leaves our fulfillment center, we may use any appropriate ground or air shipping service necessary to ensure that your order is delivered within two days. These delivery options do not directly correspond to any carrier-branded shipping services. I have researched the order in question, and it appears your package will arrive on time.

For more information about our shipping policies and prices, please visit our Help pages:

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

It still seems slightly confusing.

Under Leopard, I had 78GB free of a 250GB drive.

Under SL, I have 92GB free.

So haven't I gained 14GB?

NO, you haven't gained that much. SL reads total drive space differently... your drive shows full size now. Whereas before may have showed 230 GB of 250 GB drive once formated. Now, shows 250 GB of 250 GB drive.

The reason everyone keeps reporting far more space than 7 GB is how SL is reading their drive's space. Bigger the drive, the more space you will supposedly "gain."

In the end, you're only gaining 7 GB. The rest is all how the drive is read.

upgrading

Maybe it's just me but my Leopard is running really good right now. I would hate for anything to happen.

Guys please don't forget about your programs that are very sensitive to updates. I know 1Password, Screenium, AudioFinder and others are very touchy when anything changes to the system.

I would say that if you are in the middle of a big project right now, it may not be a good time to upgrade. Especially since this upgrade is very minor and for me personally there is no benefit for me with the new features.

just my 2

Yikes...

Up until a minute ago I was eating my heart out thinking about everyone who's already got Snow Leop. (Mine won't arrive til Monday...)

But after reading the incompatible software list, I realize I've got to tread carefully. I haven't used any of the Parallels VMs on my MBP in a while, but I better make sure there's nothing I'll need...

Hmm.. I have EyeTV on a media mini -- not sure what version. I hadn't been planning on upgrading that but then I saw Wake On Demand -- It would be awesome if I could let that guy go to sleep when not in use. No hurry on that, though.

Anyway, everyone ought to take a look at that list before upgrading.

Enjoy!

Indeed as it grows...and grows...and grows. Many apps definitely not listed yet and some have yet to undergo deeper further testing!

No more Pre-Orders from Amazon for me. I should have learned my lesson from Gears of War 2 Launch, the game came out Friday I got the Lancer on that day but they shipped the game by regular mail which I got Monday the warehouse was even closer then this one that shipped Snow Leopard.

That's exactly why I don't get any Mac OS X release through anyone else except Apple. Apple promises getting the new OS on the day of the release - mine is at home waiting for me. Amazon receives their stock the day before or the day of the release. Usually it is the latter though.

If you buy a lot of stuff from Amazon get Amazon Prime membership - costs $79.99 a year. It's worth it IMO. I get everything shipped two day shipping for free. If I want something overnight it only costs me an extra $3.99 per item. For things that I need now, I get overnight shipping. That's rare though. I do order lots of organic foods off of Amazon and all free with Prime shipping. Totally worth it!

Formatting of a 250GB drives loses, at most 5-8 GB to manage the inode structure.

My critical machine is my Mac Pro. I have the Unibody MacBook 13" and I am going to install it on there first. All critical data is backed up on a Data drive on my Mac Pro. Then I have an empty drive on my Mac Pro waiting for Snow Leopard. I am going to have a dual Leopard/Snow Leopard install on there for the time being though. Just to be safe...

Curse you snow leopard!

I got my copy at lunchbreak and am trapped in my office with the picture of that accursed snow leopard taunting me while all the others in earlier timezones are already home merrily upgrading... Curse you snow leoprd!;)

For some reason mine hasn't shipped yet...

Neither does mine. It still says "Not yet shipped" and "Ships: By August 28th." I honestly thought it would get here today, based on people's anecdotes of the last release...

FEDEX is slow and inconsistent? Here in Houston,TX I never had a FEDEX Delivery pass 11:45am! I thought FEDEX was delivering my Snow Leopard that I ordered from Amazon but instead they chose UPS Ground! They are inconsistent and always come after 5:30pm!

And perhaps it doesn't even work with Apple. Up-to-date discs that were ordered a month ago are sent by regular US Post, shipped the 27th, may arrive on the 1st. Damn it.

Keyboard preferences

I installed Snow Leopard on my quad Nehalem Mac Pro, no problems, but Keyboard Preferences will not let me swap modifier keys. I like to convert the Caps Lock key to Control, but when I set it that way, it has no effect; Caps Lock remains Caps Lock.

Also, Keyboard Preferences apparently does not recognize my Apple keyboard; calls it "unknown keyboard." I tried it with another Apple aluminum keyboard to no avail.

In Leopard, Keyboard could be Apple, Unknown, or All; in SL, the only two selections are Apple and Unknown.

Im getting error saying, “SAMSUNG500G” can’t be used because it doesn’t use the GUID Partition Table scheme.

Use Disk Utility to change the partition schedme. Select the disk, choose the Partition tab, select the volume scheme and then click options.

what do i do?

Get an external drive, do a time machine backup

Boot with the DVD, go into DiskUtility and repartition your drive selecting GUID format.

restore the system using time machine, and then upgrade to 10.6.

All intel systems are suppoced to use a GUID disk format.
