I ended up getting mine on the 29th, although I was hoping I'd get it a day early like I did with Panther. I am somewhat disturbed about people ordering it a week before and getting it a day or two early while myslef and a few of my friends pre-ordered it within minutes of announcment. I am the only one who got mine on time, two other friends will be getting theirs on Monday at the soonest.

Of course, they are quite jealous and disappointed that I've got to install and play all weekend... and I don't blame them!

I didn't receive my copy of Tiger yesterday either.....I finally decided to go to the Apple store and pick a copy up. I have at least two friends who would be happy to buy the copy coming Monday.

I got a shipping message for my Tiger order from Amazon late last (Friday) night. Then tonight (Saturday) I got this:
Amazon.com said:
We are writing because your order for the Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger has been
delayed in shipping and will not arrive by the promised delivery date.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a new estimated delivery date
at this time, but wanted to alert you to the delay. Rest assured your
order is currently in process and will arrive soon.

To compensate for any inconvenience caused by this delay, I have
refunded your shipping charges.
(emphasis mine)

I thought that was really cool, that they couldn't predict the shipping date of a package they already shipped.

It's nice that they refunded shipping, I guess...though I already used the Return thing on their website and said I was doing so because it didn't arrive on time, and they said they were gonna refund the shipping charges anyway. They also lost a sale on the LaCie hard drive I ended up getting from CompUSA to qualify for the Tiger rebate there.

Friday evening I went to my local Apple store for a Family Pack of Tiger, and ran into a former neighbor, also a Mac-addict, whom I had not seen in years. That made the trip alone worth the effort.

That night, I installed Tiger on 3 Macs without a hitch. My 6-year old daughter’s Mac, a “desk lamp” iMac, would not accept the upgrade and I didn’t install it on my G4, as I was (legally) d’loading Bryce 5.5 at the time (very slow server on their end...took 6+ hours).

The next morning, I caught my Mac having breakfast, as it installed language packs. “Installing Danish” indeed.

While Tiger seemed to install normally on my G4, I ended up watching a blue screen for over 3 hours, after installing Bryce. After some research, I purchased and used DiskWarrior on my G4 and my daughter’s iMac. Both took Tiger with no complaints, after that.

Granted, when I went in for DiskWarrior, I succumbed to a moment of weakness. I took one for the team, as it were, by purchasing a new 2.7 GHz PowerMac. I figured if I did not buy it now, the dual-core models would never come out in June. ;)

Thank you for your extreme sacrifice, Aeolius. I tried Tiger on a Power Mac 2.7 prior to the Tiger launch, it was awesome.

I am also in this situation. Mine is sitting in Newark at the moment.

For anyone in this situation, call Apple and complain. They will offer you a free copy of iLife, or iWork, or a $30 credit on your next purchase. Make apple pay for their mistake! :)

I called Apple up a little while ago and the rep told me that "it's only one business day late" and tried to get me off the phone reasonably quickly, with no offer for software. I was courteous, kept my voice down, and only relayed my frustration at being promised something other than what was delivered. Guess it's luck of the draw..

Keep calling till you get someone who'll compensate ;)

Yeah, keep calling. I was made the offer on my third call. The first two I was told to keep waiting sincethe delivery could still come late. It never did. I was told that anyone who DID NOT receive an email stating that their shipment would be delayed and did not receive their copy of Tiger (must have been ordered prior to 4/26/05) on Friday would be eligible for this compensation. Just keep trying, I am sure that you will get the same offer that I did.

Good luck,
Hickman

I received a late shipment notification on Friday (the 29th, no less) at 5PM EST ... after I already had my tracking number. Blah, out of luck I guess.

FREE COPIES OF TIGER!!

I orderd a copy of tiger from the Apple Store. They had claimed it would be delivered by the 29. They ended up sending it ground from Tennessee on the 28. It wasn't going to make it to miami in one day. I called up to cancel my order. The following day I received an email.

We received your request to cancel OS X V10.4 "TIGER" RETAIL-INT but it is

That is certainly a great deal, congratulations. That would be my preference over iWork.

Speaking of iWork, any news on updates or additions to iWork such as a spread sheet??

None that I have heard. That's what I'm waiting for. For me it's the most important component of a suite and the reason I haven't bought iWork yet.

No serial number is needed. Don't download a pirated copy. There have been reports of what seems like purposeful seeds of bad copies of Tiger that will ruin your Mac.

You mac people are so gullible... Do you believe in Santa Claus too?

I have both. A copy of Tiger and Tiger... the GM leak is perfect and works alright... Stop spreading phear... not everyone has $129 bucks to feel jobs pockets specially when he ripped out the Ebay Widget from Tiger... :(

The issue of pirating should not be accepted on these boards and I find your post offensive in that you have the guts to justify your theft of a product by complaining that said stolen product is missing a feature you had hoped for. For all of us who pay for software, we bare a greater burden because of people like you.

I have completed installing Tiger via Erase & Install option, followed by installing the bundled software from the original DVD restore disk. So far so good, considering I was nervous about installing Tiger on 12" PB. Adobe CS2 works. Popcorn works. MacTheRipper works. Offic X works. MacJanitor works. VLC works. QuickSilver works. So, basically, some of the main softwares are operating in good order so far.

Installed, and meh..

OK, I bought it, installed it and while it's better than Panther, those touting the greatness of spotlight need to get out more.

The search integration is better than on Windows and the search while you type is very cool as well, but Windows does have Google and MSN search, both of which are very fast, and IMO, better in some regards (I like the hit highlights).

So, even though this beats Longhorn to the punch, I'm not that impressed with Tiger. I do think Longhorn will have some very cool features - features that will be much better than anything in Finder.

Bottom line, I like both platforms and really like Apple for home use, and love the hardware, but for those out there that think Tiger is revolutionary, That might be a bit hard to swallow.

Which platform will be the first to hook up to my HD TV? A Mini? we need better hardware first? a Windows Media Center PC? I need to wait for the next XBox before deciding...

I don't mean to sound too fanboy-ish here but... if you think that Longhorn is gonna be better than Tiger's Finder and so on you're not welcome here in my book. I have the HUGEST hunch that anything that'll be "cool" in Longhorn is either gonna be a copy of an Apple innovation with a different name, or something REALLY REALLY similar to it. Tiger also has sped up many users with older, and sometimes outdated Macs. Not eveyone here has a recent generation G3/G4 (laptop or desktop) or a Power Mac G5. I'm one of the outdated users, using an iBook G3 600 Mhz from 2001. Each OS X release has sped me up alot.

Sorry if I sounded obnoxious but this is how I feel when people compare Tiger to an unreleased OS such as MS' Windows Longhorn.

Also: many times when you install those MSN and Google third party search utilities on Windows (any version) there's always the chance of spyware and/or adware and malware that could either come with it or as an external/linked install. That's nonexistant on the Mac.

OK that's the end of my rant...

Another look at Spotlight. Yes, Win had Google and MSN. They search on the web. When third party software applies links to software, then Spot light will search items on your hard drive. It was designed to do searches also on the Mac. At the moment it will search among others, things on iPhoto and iTunes.

Amen. Nicely put.
