Mac OS X Tiger Arriving

IT ARRIVED AT 2:32 PM!!!

^_^_^ I'm doing an upgrade install as we speak. Tonight I'm gonna be getting 512 MB of RAM during the event if possible to max myself out to 640 MB. That's so gonna own. ^_^ I'll post some screenshots in a bit once it's installed.

EDIT: I forgot to mention something. When I popped in the DVD and attempted to start the install under Panther, I clicked restart, entered my password and then it says that it can't start up using the disc that was in and it asked me to insert the correct one... What's odd is that I restarted with the C key down and it seems to be working just fine now. Anyone else experience this?

for some reason i thought it was icalc or something. i did spotlight for calc. got it now. thx! (grapher.app)
 
Problem with Cisco VPN

Uh oh. I think I found a problem... at least I am having one. Got Tiger around 10 this morning, took less than an hour to "Upgrade" install, and now my Cisco VPN client does not seem to work with the new version. Being a telecommuter, I haven't gotten much work done today.

Otherwise, Tiger is pretty cool. Spotlight, so far, is my favorite feature. It's really awesome. Also, the widgets are pretty cool, but I don't know how many of them I will actually use. The weather and flight tracker ones are cool, but I actually have WeatherPop on my finder bar that I like better. I wish the widgets were accessable without having to open Dashboard. What woudl be cool is if you held "control" while clicking on the Dashboard icon, if individual widgets were available in the menu... anyway, for a first version of Dashboard, not bad.

Can't wait to start playing with Automator and the new iLife software.

I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it, though... educational discounts rock!
 
I got home and there was a package waiting for me. I am going to install now. Oh how fun, glad that Apple makes Christmas come more then just once a year!
 
Will be able to purchase Tiger in another one hour ten minutes. My wife is holding our first place in line.
 
Just got home and there was a door tag from FedEx :(

Looks like I'm going to have to drive the 30 miles to pick it up tomorrow.

My Tokyo campout went well, but not as well as I'd hoped. I was 5th in line and was the first person to buy a system during the launch event. :) The only drag is that it'll take the service department two days to swap out the Japanese keyboard for an English one.

Ah well. At least it's there, paid for and mine. Just one more day to wait now. :D

Well even though the TNT site says my order has been Out for Delivery today. It never arrived. :mad: Guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow now.
 
5 mins left on my install... It's doing the additional languages lol it just started "Simplified Chinese". When I tried to tell it NOT to install the additional langs. it wouldn't let me uncheck it for some reason.... Oh well..

EDIT: WOOT WOOT!! It's finishing the install!! It's optimizing!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The next post while be under Tiger! ^_^
 
tiger delayed

has anyone elses tiger ordered been delayed. I ordered directly from apple on april 12th the day you could order and now my fedex tracking says it won't be here till monday. Now that sux. That apple order status said on or before the 28th. Then i get an email saying my order has been delayed but they never gave me a reason. Now i was planning on installing and tweaking everything over the weekend and even join the online seminar for tiger but now i can't. that is so wrong. Apple just pissed me off. Every other order from there came on time with no problem but this one was delayed. I just wanna know if anybody else's order got delayed?

At least you got an email saying it was delayed. I just get an email that said it shipped yesterday. I check fedex and it won't get here until Monday. I ordered very early on the 12th, and don't feel too good about being shafted. I guess I'll take a 15 minute drive to the Apple store to get it. Or, maybe I should go to CompUSA instead. All I know is that I'm a bit pissed. :mad:
 
I preordred from Amazon on the...13th? I think...at any rate, that was when Amazon had it listed at $129.99. On the 18th I noticed they had dropped the price to $124.99, so I cancelled my first order and reordered at the new price. Maybe it was a mistake, maybe not, but they charged my card the lower price. At any rate, yesterday the Tiger order (containing nothing but Tiger, and set for 1 day shipping) started saying "preparing for shipment". It has now been saying that for close to 24 hours.

$35 rebate or not unless it arrives within the next 20 minutes I am going to CompUSA. I was poking around their website and noticed this, offering Tiger at $99 after rebate (with accompanying purchase of $400 or more). I was planning on getting a LaCie 500GB external drive anyway, so I will just pick that up at the same time.

I am still sort of holding my breath on it arriving today from Amazon, because they have been having problems with their order tracking pages all day (there have been long periods of "We're sorry we can't access your orders right now)...so maybe that's screwing with the shipping status, and it actually is en route...but I guess I should be giving up at this point. UPS is usually never this late, except around Christmas.

Yes! I ordered mine on the 21st and it still shows "Processing Order" and "On or before 4/29/05". :mad:

I'm in the same boat. No email for me either. Estimated arrival is Monday. I preordered on the 13th. Totally sucks.

Same thing to me man and all I get when I call Apple is oh oh oh yes it will be in your hands today. Well my friend delievers for fedex and he aint got jack **** for me today so THEY LIED. I would go to a store but anywhere I can go is at least 3 hour drive.
 
Hey all,

I just got my copy of Tiger, I haven't had that much time to play around with it, but it seems a bit faster on my PB. Grapher is a bit more powerful than I originally thought, it could come in handy for producing some nice plots (it would be even better if pure data could be plotted). Spotlight is pretty cool, but I'm still not sold on it over the quicksilver.

I'm sure everything will grow on me, now back to putting all my files/programs back on here.

Need Comfirmation here....

Ok, I need to check if anyone on here used the up-to-date service for tiger, and HAS received it. The lady from apple said that the up-to-date versions ship out today (29th). Is there anyone out there that has gotten it from the up-to-date program! Thanks!
 
First Impression...

Well I just got done putting it on my iMac G5 and although I have not tried everything with it, seems nice and quick. What I notice more then anything is the improved speed in Safari and the scrolling so buttery smooth, it feels so good scrolling down webpages and even scrolling in long MS Word docs is MUCH improved! Dashboard is neat, love the "ripple" effect, if anything to impress the buddies. Spotlight is cool, but I don't know if I will use it a lot, we will see. A nice update!
 
Just Curious

When installing do you need to enter a serial number or is the install the same as with panther?

Current issues while running Tiger

Got my copy, updated, went off fine. Here are the current issues I'm having, just for the info:

1 - Spotlight isn't finding EVERYTHING on the drive. sometimes spotlight wont even find a file that's on the desk top

2 - two of the last ten shutdown/restarts have frozen/crashed and required manually shutting down

3 - quicktime's integration into safari has become extremely laggy. as a quicktime just begins to load into a safari window, THE ENTIRE OS laggs considerably, almost bringing usage to a stop

4 - live scaling for quicktime 7 does NOT work with all movie formats

5 - widgets sometimes do not remember they're placement on the dashboard, requiring you to reposition them after restarts

6 - automator is somewhat clumsy, and the "add spotlight comments to finder items" automation task doesnt appear to be working for me
