i bet if u order today, the software update will released before your mac is shipped.

i hope so, ill be ordering in about 12 hours!

but I am unsure, as about 14 months ago i ordered an imac where a newer version of the os had been released, and when it arrived it still had the older version of the os installed. what made this worst (at least in my mind!) was that the imac was something of a dud, and i sent it back (ended up getting a mbp by the way, a much better choice retrospectively!)

Anybody make any sense of how they are shipping?

What is the determination for who gets it shipped and who doesn't? Any ideas yet?

I just got home from work tonight. Setting in meetings all day so not around a computer. I have read all the posts about calling Apple and at least getting expedited shipping... SOOOO, I called. Rep kept draggin his feet about not know about any early shipments but finally jumped at a chance to be a hero. Got mine updated to two day shipping. Ships Feb 20 and now arrives Feb 22 instead of the 26th. Sure was a fight for four days!!!

Thanks to all for the info.

True. I've now ordered a new office chair, 8GB of RAM from OWC, a new monitor, two 500GB Barracudas from Newegg... and an APC will be on order next week.

Just waiting for some form of status that my MP is being packaged or anything other than "not yet shipped".

Be sure you don't get ones w/the bad firmware. The 32gb cache is not recognized. I just received my 2 Seagate 7200.11 HD's from Newegg. They had the defective firmware on the label: "SD04" or "SD14". I called Seagate to confirm by serial numbers and sure enuf, they told me I had to update the firmware on a PC - no Mac. I only have a laptop pc from work but they said the drive had to be internal to update the firmware. That ain't gonna work either on a laptop.
When I explained this they offered to exchange the dirves with "recertified" ones - not new ones. So, I contacted Newegg and back they go at their shipping expense. I think I'll try Hitachi this time. Seagate is now on my exclude list.

Yeah, I see it now on the left side. What I'm trying to figure out is whether the motherboard end of that cable is the same as it was on the first-gen Mac Pro. On the first-gen Mac Pro, the 2 auxiliary PCIe power connectors on the motherboard are non standard. They look like standard 6-pin molex PCIe power connectors like you'd find on a PC, but they're about half the size. So you couldn't power up an off-the-shelf PC video card with the cable that comes with it. I'm wondering if Apple has smartened up and used the standard connector on the new Mac Pro.

Ah got it, sorry :)

Is there a special cable when talking about server-class hardware? I'm guessing that the connector is more commonly used in that arena.

Apple never imports any high value goods by boat. It's all air freight.

Actually I dont believe this is true. I worked as an Apple rep in college and the campus store's manager said Apple products (including the powermac/mac pro) would arrive from China by air AND boat.

I am assuming these first shipments are arriving by air as Apple doesn't want to wait another 7-10 days, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them saving money by shipping over water after supplies here beef up. Not that it really matters then anyway.

I don't know about Apple but most computer shipments arrive LAX from Asia via 747 freighters.
SFO and SEA get their share of 747 freighters also.

Can't login to order status

I can't log in to my order status at Apple. Is anyone else having this problem? Does this mean they are updating something? What do you all make of this? I've rebooted my computer and tried different browsers and it won't work.

Same problem for me. We must be checking our status too often :p

Yeah I can't either. I suspect it's because of impatient Mac Pro orderers like us pressing F5.

Yes, I'm seeing the same problem.
