Yeah Fedex is good fun. I've had times when I've ordered stuff from Newegg, etc where the item gets there before the tracking number is even valid.

What's so ghetto about those pics? (Honestly I want to know, I want to take pics for people when I get mine :) )

Oh, I guess nothing much, just setting expectations. :D I'm just used to seeing people unbox their Apple stuff in the midst of amazing furniture and under great lighting conditions, with national landmarks visible through their windows and supermodels lounging around buck nekkid in the reflections. Hmm, actually I may have just dreamed that last part.

First pictures I've seen of the 8800, thanks :) I probably look like a denial of service attack with my status checking.

I think I just got confirmation as to why orders with non-standard HDs haven't shipped yet... if you go to its order/configuration page and only choose 500GB HD, the shipping time increases to 7-10 days. A few days ago (last time I checked), it was either 24 hours or 2-3 days, not sure which one as I tried several different upgrades to check for dates. But yeah, definitely a 1 week+ delay there. :(

Others with a different HD config have received shipping notices. Face it, there is no rhyme or reason to Apple's madness :D

is it worth waiting for 10.5.2 to be released before i order? what is this update going to improve so drastically?

why?
it will get released.. u will download..
why wait for a software release to buy hardware? not to mention the software is expected to be released imminently?

well Apple just charged my credit card so that means its ready to ship!!!! I ordered the 8800gt, 500gb, airport and wireless keyboard a BTO :D

the expectation of it seemed to suggest to me that it could have been what was causing the problems with sleeping etc, and might be such a substantial update that it would be worth waiting for...

...i take it that this is all rubbish then:confused:?

Just in case you want more photographic proof, including of the nVIDIA card and OS build, please feel free to check out this gallery: http://picasaweb.google.com/feelitmon/UnboxingTheFruit. I warn you: Most. Ghetto. Unboxing Photos. Evar.

Congrats! Can you verify whether there is a power cable running from somewhere on the NVidia card, to somewhere on the motherboard? If so, can you post a pic of that cable?

no. the fix can be huge
but it can be downloaded for free.. and downloaded soon.. so why wait?
so it's 'factory' installed? makes no diff tho?

i bet if u order today, the software update will released before your mac is shipped.

Looks like the SLI connector is on the Nvidia card all right.

Wonder will it work in bootcamp ?

From reading these forums, it seems that the mobo doesn't support SLI. However, its nice to know that the card ships with the connection. Maybe the next generation intel mobo will support SLI, so instead of spending more money on the next-gen card, one could simply pop another 8800GT and SLI for half the cost :)

Also, mine hasn't shipped yet :(

Even with the 500GB HD in particular? Maybe they shipped a few and then ran out of those but the shipping delay on the configuration page (with only this upgrade) and the expected shipment dates on orders with this piece of configuration seem to coincide pretty clearly, IMO.

Look at his picture man, you can clearly see a 6-pin power cable...

Yeah, I see it now on the left side. What I'm trying to figure out is whether the motherboard end of that cable is the same as it was on the first-gen Mac Pro. On the first-gen Mac Pro, the 2 auxiliary PCIe power connectors on the motherboard are non standard. They look like standard 6-pin molex PCIe power connectors like you'd find on a PC, but they're about half the size. So you couldn't power up an off-the-shelf PC video card with the cable that comes with it. I'm wondering if Apple has smartened up and used the standard connector on the new Mac Pro.

My email from Apple says "Shipped: Feb. 6" and "Delivers by: Feb 8," but I ordered standard shipping and in the same email it tells me to "Allow five business days." FedEx doesn't have any tracking info available yet.

Is the Feb 8 date is likely to be accurate? Otherwise I imagine I'll be waiting until Monday (or later), and it would be useful for me to know which it'll be now. I'm going to call FedEx and/or Apple but I'm not sure if they'll know anything beyond what was in the email.

Canceled My Order

I just canceled my order. I had originally ordered Mac Pro 3.2 GHZ. But after reading all the bench marks so far about there not being that much difference in performance between the 2.8 and 3.2 it was a no brainer. So instead of having a shipping date of Feb 13th my new date has been bump up to Feb 29th. I'll just have wait a little bit longer. I do envy all the people who have their Mac Pro's now or will be getting them soon. Enjoy!!!!!
