Has your Jan. order shipped yet?

The really frustrating part of the whole 500gb upgrade slowdown is that, when initially ordering, that upgrade only increased the wait by 1-2 days.

So between then and now (3, almost 4 weeks) they've KNOWN FULL WELL how many orders were in with 500GB upgrades, and have had A MONTH to stock up while waiting on the 8800 GT to be ready for shipment... but instead, they've mysteriously gone from being stocked up to being short.

There's no excuse for that slowing down their orders, none! They've had plenty of time to have it all ready to go, and instead have managed to become backlogged when before they were just fine and dandy and plenty well stocked.

Either it's negligence/incompetence on someone's part, or maybe there's a worldwide shortage of generic 500 GB HDD's now?

Oh man..... were they using the Seagates? The ones with the firmware problems? Which would make them either have to fix all those HD's or go order new ones? If so then there's your answer.

Ordered Jan 11
Dual 3.2
nVidia 8800
500gb system drive

Still no change in order status-- expected ship date Feb 19

First call to Apple got me free overnight
Second call got $100 credit and promise to request "Priority Allocation Request"
Third call (Feb 11) got the typical line that they ship as parts become available and when it ships it ships and they have no information and can obtain no information.

Positive it is the 500 gb drive but the most recent rep denied that's the problem since she saw nothing on the order to indicate any kind of delay.

Charge was pre-authorized with AMEX on 1/11 when I ordered.

Needless to say, simply baffled at how orders placed in Feb even for dual 3.2 and 500 gb have shipped.

Theory: Those machines where built with newer 500GB HDs that don't have an issue. The older orders with the bad HDs were sent back or waiting to be rebuilt.

Well...for those who's machine that were on the same FedEx Truck as mine down in Fullerton:
My MacPro is out for delivery! A full day ahead of schedule!
So yours maybe out on a truck as well!

Now I'm stuck at home waiting for it to show up...  :D

FedEx delivered at 10:30 and I think I convinced that driver to get a Mac! :D
One of his questions was "Do you get viruses?", I said "No" and his face had the look of bewilderment! Loved it! :D

Ptseng, where do you live?? I'm surprised that it doesn't say it arrived in Oakland. If you're in the Bay Area, I'd give FedEx a ring and see where it is. They can also call the distribution centre and get the real facts.

Santa Barbara, CA, so I guess it wouldn't go through Oakland... No updates since it left fullerton?

I'd phone FedEx, not matter what, even if they go up to Oakland to come back down, it should still say arrived "here" on Sunday.

mine showed it arrived at the local fedex facility at 7:31am, but they called me at 8:18am to say that there was no street address to deliver to...only an apartment number. weird. i told her my address and she said it should be here by 3pm today.

a new wrinkle in the 500GB question

So, I placed an order yesterday for a dual 2.8 with 8800gt and one 500gb drive with overnight shipping. This morning I saw all the posts here about the 500gb drives being a hold up, so I called apple to switch back to the standard 320gb drive. the apple rep said that he couldn't make the change- my pro was already being built.
It doesn't seem like newly placed orders with 500gb drives are waiting for the HD's.

It simply means that they already put in the order, from that point it cannot be changed anymore, only cancelled and re-ordered differently.

My order has changed from Not Shipped to Prepared for Shipment as of yesterday. Can anyone who has received a shipment notice from Apple tell me how long they had to wait from Prepared to Shipped? Thanks

I ordered mine January 8th. Due to ship Feb 14th and arrive Feb 15th.
Called today. No update on status and was only told that it appeared all parts were in stock. No other news.
3.2, 4 1TB drives, 8800 GT, RAID card with 16GB RAM waiting.

On an interesting note, I received a survey from Apple today asking me to "Tell Them How I Liked My Mac?" I replied, "I've yet to receive my Mac that I ordered 5 weeks ago now and you're sending me a survey to ask how I liked my purchase? Um...Somebody's not driving the car."

Just got the same email. I laughed pretty hard.

Yes, and the funny part was, my survey was only 3 questions long as I chose unknown for the product. Needless to say, it wasn't 15 minutes.

Man that is close to my date with the same config. Maybe I'll see a change tonight?

I received my prepared to ship notice this morning early. I was told it was actually changed to that status at 9:00 PM last night but that is CA time not Ohio. The computer shipped this afternoon CA time at 3:44 PM.

I'm really going crazy now.

I have my desk picked out and the room nearly ready.

I feel like I'm waiting for a baby.

I have a few days off, if it's actually shipped tomorrow, I may get it in time to use it before work hits again.

Went to an Aperture talk today at the local Apple store. Wasn't that impressed with the knowledge the "genius" had. If he was a genius, I'm Einstein.
