laugh so much if they kill the mac pro and instead release an iMac with a dvd drive and call it iMac Server
i feel sorry for video editors.
music people like myself aren't as needy

Or Kill it....

This gets my vote. Kill the damn thing already. It was a beautiful machine way back in the 1800s when it was first released, but it's done. Apple can pack just as much power into something a lot smaller and less bulky. I'd love to see them merge the Mac Mini and Mac Pro lines into a series of machines going from low-end to high. The iMac is a great machine but it would be great to give some real choice in the headless Mac line-up for once. No reason to make it a choice between small and underpowered or huge and expensive.

LOL @ you thinking pro users replace machines every year or so.. I still use my PowerMac G5 & 30" Cinema Display from 10 years ago!

Is there anything else you want to be wrong about today?

I know enough Pro users considering abandoning Apple HW (or having done so) because of the MacPro waiting game, that's a fact.

If you and your clients are happy with a G5, then all the better.

I doubt many pro users would be happy using a G5 machine as workstation nowadays. Apart from expansion slots, a top-of-the-line Macmini is faster...

My bet is they will update the case and most hardware sooner, like TB and USB3 then slot in the new CPUs later in the year.

Yah that's why they spent 4 years redesigning Final Cut Pro, because they gave up the market.

Wait. So, first Pro users don't care about USB3 because they use something with much higher bandwidth, and you know this because you are a Pro user...yet you still use a PowerMac G5? I think you're probably a teenager in your parents basement.

...and proprietary

Ever work with an HP workstation? We use Z420's here, and those graphics cards alone will ONLY work with THAT specific model. If you even try to put it in another machine it VOIDS the warranty. How's that for proprietary?

Is Apple's interest in it's own processors limited to the mobile/tablet space? Maybe they have new processing power of their own to include that doesn't rely on Intel! :)

Yah, no one is abandoning Apple's pro workstations.

LOL @ you thinking they're going to find a better system. Maybe a Dell or HP workstation perhaps? =^D

Well, they wouldn't be able to keep using the current CPUs they're selling since the socket and motherboard aren't compatible. They probably could ship with the current sandy bridge chips, but they could have done that months ago. With intel scheduled to release the next gen next quarter, it would be very odd timing to update just before that and then have to update again in a few months.

Man June 10th is never gonna get here! Well, this is going to make a lot of people happy. I once would have been so stoked about a new Mac tower. But the quicksilver G4 was prob my last. Don't get me wrong, I love the future, and how our computers get smaller and smaller. Now a Mac Pro is more than I need (or can afford). I did like being able to get into my computer so easily, though.

Server/Workstation Form Factor

We will likely be buying two or three for servers. I hope the new Mac Pro can easily be used vertically or horizontally without third party kits. I always liked that rumor... perhaps that is just wishful thinking, though!

Apple has got the rumour machines here, eh? :)

Here we are 10 days before the WWDC and there simply is no way of telling IF and WHEN or with WHAT Apple is upgrading Mac Pro.

IF Apple do announce a new Mac Pro, then they have kept it hugely secret.

OTOH... that is what bothers me... the complete lack of any rumour whatsoever. Nothing. Only a remark made by Tim that "something great" is coming.

Either Apple has done their absolute perfect best at hiding a new Mac Pro, or... it is dead already.

Actually yes, if Apple doesn't get out of slow gear, I'll be upgrading to a Dell T7600 by the end of the year. I really DON'T want to be on Windozes, but if that's what I gotta do, that's what I gotta do (or hackintosh ).

And yes, people are abandoning Apple's Pro line, if this update doesn't happen this year, or is crappier than a comparable T7600 level machine, expect more to jump ship.

No one? Have you looked at MacPro sales in the last two years?

I spoke to Apple resellers. MacPro sales are terrible compared to the 2000s when Apple had more competitive offerings.

If you believe Apple still cares a lot about their "old" core base market (graphic pros, video editing...), you will be disappointed in the future

If Apple cared and had more sales (chicken and egg problem here) there would be constant product updates every 12 months or so.

I'm not saying Apple will kill the MacPro completely (like they did with the Xserve), but probably replace it with a much lighter and smaller machine that won't meet some of the pro market requirements.

I think you are mistaken. HP's Z420's are compatible with a full range of Nvidia and AMD graphic cards.

Maybe you're IT department needs a little help. Here's the link

I don't know if he is, but I'm not and I still use my G5 Quad with a 30" ACD almost everyday. there is some software that does not run appreciably better or faster today.

And, no, it doesn't leak.

So are more people are going from Dell/HP to Apple than Apple to Dell/HP?

Which anecdote would you like?

Yes they are.

16-cores, 512GB RAM support, PCI-E 3.0 with every graphics card working and the option for SLI or Crossfire, 3-5 year on site warranty coverage. PC workstations are superior in hardware performance and support to what you get with a Mac Pro. Not to mention Dell are considerably cheaper. Granted build quality might not be as great, but I'd take that lacking to get work done 40% faster.

The Mac Pro doesn't really fit into the "new" Apple so I am not sure how much longer we will even see that sort of machine. They could discontinue it tomorrow and nothing would change on their bottom line.

It's pretty hard to put much focus on this very small market when they know people are going to go completely bonkers over the next iPhone even if it is a tiny update. The iDevices continue to make more and more of the revenue around Apple and money drives a corporation.

I'm just happy they still sell a Mac. Good luck Pro users.

Are you drunk?

More are going from Apple to other vendors.

Really?

Is that why HP & Dell are nearly bankrupt?

Yes they are.

I didn't know you could find a Xeon workstation from Dell & HP for cheaper than Apple?

News to me.
