As a matter of fact..

This is what I meant.. and I am not a fanboy.. Ukrainians don't believe in such things.. though. Anyway, my local Apple store in Towson, MD hardly sells any mac pros and I was the last one in for an airport install in many months.. they sell more macbooks/macbook pros, imacs, and of course itoys.. compared to xserves and mac pros..

As I said... I am not a fan boy.. I don't like either computer to be honest with you.. I like the mac because of OS X.. there are severe limitations on the mac compared to a PC and since I am a hardcore gamer, I really should have built my own pc.. but I wanted OS X.

Dude Fan boy is your mother, idiot.
MacPro per unit is profitable for Apple (cost to build the unit against the retail price) , if you want to compare the the amount of units sold, then for sure laptops and the iMac outsell MacPro way more.

For the love of God, Apple, don't make your base tower single CPU cost $700 more than a PC equivalent.

Just make something affordable and powerful for once.

If you had the chance to read and comprehend before accusing me of being a fanboy you would save yourself the chance to being ridicule here. I can careless where you come from.

Nice example! I've been upscaling to 960p for years with a Faroudja scaler to a Sony G90 projector, then upgraded to a Meridian MF1 (1080p60, DILA with Faroudja scaler); Then I got a Pioneer Bluray player (BDP-05), let it scale from 1080i60 (or p24 for much stuff) to 1080p60, and the difference was clear on the FIRST movie I watched: not only sharper, but better contrast, deeper blacks (and much better visibility into dark shadows), and better color rendering than even the best upscaled DVD with either the internal Pioneer BDP-05 scaler (actually, a very good scaler!) or the external Faroudja scaler. No contest (120" diagonal Stewart Film Screen).

Heck, even 720P from a Sony Playstation 3 on my Pioneer 505 (50" plasma, only 720 capable natively) is better than scaled DVD (external scaler needed due to Sony's silly analog output restrictions on scaled DVDs!).

Those who say upscaled DVDs are the same as BluRay need their glasses checked, or they should ask their seeing eye dogs what they think.

fine..

sorry..

Good...

may this be true...as so many have said, it's great to hear about the Macs again.

I'm still hoping for the mini tower that Patently Apple posted a few months back. I would love a headless Mac that is bigger than the mini with easy upgrades/expandable options, and isn't a workstation. And if it weighs under 20lbs bingo!

No wonder there hasn't. Been any rumors on iMac/MacBook/Mac pro updates. The iPhone has been stealing the spotlight for the last few months. Pretty good diversion plan if you ask me. :d

If they let me put in a hex core, I will be dancing in the streets. blu-Ray or not.

Is precisely what many of us want. I don't care what it weighs, just give me power and make it a bit cheaper than the wasteful single quad mac pros.

It would be great to have a new Mac Pro and Cinema Display line, and an addition of a mid-tower Mac would be icing on the cake.

OT: the term "fanboy" needs to be banned.

Normally mac products are double price and just decent hardware. Since a decent Mac Pro cost $5K, you would be overcharged a couple grand.

I hope they replace the case, IMO it's fugly!! It's what some people would call 'not a bad old hector' note the OLD. It looks so outdated next to the rest of the range.
They can easily make it unibody design, but not as in a single block of aluminium (By the way, they COULD do this and recycle ALL the cuttings!) but they could make in on the unibody principles. Strong, clever machining, clever design. Meh it the Pro just looks old. Nothing like a new case to sell the computer either ;) eye candy FTW.

Gulftown, maybe at $3,499?

Maybe the Mac Pro is just heading off to the Business Store only.
If the Mac Pro is going off to the Business Store then room will open up for an xMac, and the Intel Core i7-930 will be a good CPU to use. Since Valve has ported Steam to the Mac and games are a big part of the iOS business then Apple should have no problem providing a tower model that is geared more toward the mainstream than professionals and prosumers.

The dual quad core mac pros are actually pretty competitive (aside from graphic cards). It's the single quads that are sickening.

What if (and this is random speculation) Apple opted to stop building the Mac Pro and instead built a slightly thicker and beafier iMac Pro that had some expandable slots, additional hard drives and a 30" screen?

It seems that Apple is wanting to simplify their line - and the MacPro is a niche machine relative to the iMac. I think the strategy could work for most buyers. Then they could offer a higher end tower type computer that would appeal to the real business based power users.

they won't. :D

the iMac Pro you allude to makes neither practical nor commercial sense.

your suggestion is self-defeating as it would complicate rather than simplify the line and they already do offer a high end tower

I got BANNED from this site for three days for calling someone a "fanboi"... I don't get how this is acceptable, nor why I am banned for something I see ALL OF THE TIME HERE just like this!

like the prices we saw on the mdds that was what 1699 and then dipped before the G5?

One-Hexacore could go long way… bundle it with steam and feed a lot of mac-hungry kids… the headless mac thats in imac range is very unapple like thinking… but there is a clear market there… half a Mac Pro's power at half the price, low cpu high gpu and call it iPlay

just a thought...

There's going to be a lot of second-hand mac pros going on the market when this drops. Imagine the size of the piece of cheese that could be grated...

In short, you cannot make something from nothing.

Here's hoping an update is coming soon, but after the March rumor, I'll only believe it when I see it.

Haha, speaking of which, sorry for doubting you... It looks like the new Mac Pro really won't be here until September. The info you got definitely seems to be correct! :)

Unfortunately, my source turned out to be pretty much spot on. It would be nice to see something before September, but I'm not holding my breath. :)
