The guy has probably been told that there are signs of favouritism inside apple towards the iPhone but he's too damn stubborn to accept that he is wrong.

It's like pirates of silicon valley all over again. He's put the iToys up against the Macintosh - clearly lost all interest in macs.

He was fired for very good reason remember...

I can also see the similarities. Steve Jobs = Icarus in a time loop! ;)

I will say this: with all the bad news coming out, releasing a new product--like the refreshed Mac Pro or even a new ACD--would be welcome positive PR for Apple...

They have to take off their blinders first.

They don't care about our little market. They just want to get their iPhone fixed.

Not sure if Intel is going to wait till August though to let those loose on the market. ( there is a big i7-960 price cut rumored to be coming in August. That should help open the door for a $600 six core processor. )
.

Unfortunately, Apple has absolutely no interest in passing even a penny of that savings onto their customers.

The price of hardware doesn't really matter as we won't see any real world adjustments. Apple doesn't seem to run their Mac Pro line like that. Just look at the prices of what they're offering for the Pro today.

I really don't think a 2010 mac pro...

Is going to happen this month at all.. given the popularity of the iphone and other itoys.. July 13th has come and gone.. and still no update.. When, however it does come out I'd like to get my hands on the firmware so that I can develop a flash bios/efi to use to flash the microcode to enable B1 based processors(gulftown, westmere) to work on a 2009.. According to Nano, the chip fits in the same socket and all is great, but it won't work unless the microcode is flashed..

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I was going to develop something similar to AWDFLASH.EXE, except it would be a .app program or something more low level possibly using windows to do it.

i don't care anymore

need some power soon, so i'm looking for a hackintosh.

i'm willing to invest 2000 euros and sparetime

They just announced that part of the press conference today will be about Mac Pro updates, and possibly a Mac Pro Nano.

what press conference?

SHOW US PROOF.. DON'T SPIT IT OUT.. SHOW IT TO US.. LINK??? URL??? STOP SPREADING CRAP THAT MAY NOT BE EVEN IN EXISTANCE.

geez..

Gave up waiting. Going to buy a refurbished 2009 model for our video workstation at work (we really need an Intel tower for some of our Final Cut workflows and After Effects) and add a better GFX card to it with the money saved. At least a refurbished model will cost what I'm actually willing to pay for a 14 month old desktop - and even then, it's probably still too much.

The drop in the 960 is likely to open up space in the price range for a new Intel product. If they move in 6 cores i7's into the $500 price range there is a good chance it will be the non-ecc equivalent of the Xeon. That would mean it very good chance there will be a $500 price range for a 3640. The 3540 costs $500 now.

All of the 56xx updates got a small price bump when introduced by Intel. The 55xx didn't drop in price. Even more so the 54xx didn't drop in price. The 2-3 year old Xeons have the same list pricing over at Intel as when they were introduced. They don't crater in price over time. It seems folks keep trying to transfer what happens in mid range mini-tower PC market over to the higher end workstation market. The long term pricing changes are different.

HP and Dell haven't put the 55xx configurations of their tower workstations (z800 and 7550 series respectively ) on some Crazy Ed firesale prices either. Sure they have some 56xx configurations but those generally come in higher than the old levels. Neither have they put there 35xx workstations on firesale price status either relative to their pricing a year ago.

They scheduled a keynote for next week apparantly. I can't give you proof, all I can say is that I have a friend who works at the Genius Bar, and he said it "was a lock" on the Mac Pro updates.

:D

Just hope its true. However, I don't see Apple doing a keynote for the Mac Pro. I see the 2010 Mac Pro as a silent update... Just like new MBP, MB, and Mini. They seem to only do keynotes for their iGadgets now.

If they were going to hold a keynote next week then they would have sent press invitations out by now to engadget etc but they haven't, so it would be a keynote with no press.
So I don't believe it. Sorry.

Mac Pro Nano. Very imaginative.

Like your first post above, your second will prove to be just as false.

Nah..dude.. i am DEAD SERIOUS..

I played the press conference yesterday on apple's website.. no mention of anything mac related, as it was all about Jobs sucking up to the customers saying how deeply sorry that the iphone 04 problems have caused.. So, right there that rumor on the french site is INVALID and never existed at all.. so I am barking at you since you are spreading FALSE LIES.. lies that are nothing but rumors..

You have no foot to stand on as the press conference quicktime movie on apple's website had nothing, ABSOLUTELY nothing mentioned about the mac pro or any other mac.. it was all about the problems associated with the iphone. Right now, Apple need to address that and I don't think Jobs at this moment is interested in mentioning the mac pro at this point given the severity of the iphone issue..

So, I stand correct, while you are wrong.. and macrumors.com should take down that bit of news because its nothing but a FANTASY as Jobs never mentioned a damn word about anything mac pro related..

My God, I am going to pass a rumor about time travel being perfected.. I saw it and I can prove it works... yep, if you believe one person you believe them all.

Violent rage.....it has begun....:mad::mad::mad:

Ok ok..

I might be your guinea pig.. I will get a 3640 or 6-core processor with B1 stepping and try it in my mac pro.. my bootrom firmware is very different from all of you.. as its B08 which I think maybe the magic firmware to support the B1 stepping of the westmere/gulftown processors. I will have to get the single one though as my mac pro is single-quad core and not dual core.

Personally..

Unless he showed you proof by something actually said, I don't believe it.. ask him again and post it here so that we may all see it with our own eyes.. besides, I might have the microcode already in my system given the bootrom is quite different than all of your mac pros out there.. B08 may be an indication that I can support the B1 stepping of the gulftown/westmere processors.

I might try it..
