If the Mac mini looks the same, only a very substantial performance increase compared to my M1 mini will make me upgrade.

So far the rumoured 16" iPad Pro is the most exciting news.

I am really liking my Watch Ultra. A good upgrade from my previous gold stainless Watch Series 7.

My new 12.9" iPad Pro M2 will arrive in a week.

I would have bought an MBA if it didn't cause me eye strain and headaches. I sold my M1 MBA for $700 at a huge almost 50% loss again because of eye strain and headaches.

Plus Apple is way behind on weight. Most 13" laptops are now 2.5 lb or less, many 14" can be had for 2.5 lb.

But ultimately because of the display issue, I may never be able to use macOS again. :(

What is it about the M1 MBA display that gives you eye strain and headaches?

Thanks for your thoughts!

That is good to know. My next Mac will be the MacBook Pro. I expect to have it improved vision and eliminate headaches including when I don't have caffeine. Hopefully, when I sell it, I'll be able to sell it for a huge 50% gain.

For what most people use a laptop for, with computers as powerful as the MacBook Pro M1 Pro and Max; the need for even faster, there is just no demand thats there right now. No one is really maxing out the current revs. If you need more beyond that, you are likely not needing a laptop; a Mac Studio is likely what you are looking for.

I keep saying it, Apple's biggest problem with their Apple Silicon based Macs is that they are gonna have a hard time getting users to upgrade to newer revs.

We must have heard different earnings call. They took every opportunity to say that FX was a big deal and will continue to be a big deal.

Record revenue of $90.1 billion, better than expected despite strong FX headwinds.
Maybe he was talking about the SFX chip in the Super Nintendo? Not being able to play Starfox is a big deal

If Apple is going to release MacBook Pro 14" and 16" with only an M2 chip upgrade. Don't even bother. Save it for Spring 2023 with a significant amount of upgrades included.
I mean even if they wait till Spring it will still just be an M2 chip upgrade. They'll throw in WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 too. Not sure what kind of significant upgrades people are thinking they'll get, considering 2021 was a major redesign.

I'd also rather they update sooner, especially since I'm in the market after the death of my 16"

This explanation doesn't make a lot of sense to me - the wait times were 1-2 months on release (in October 2021). No one could get their hands on one of the new M1 Pro / M1 Max MBP's when they came out a year ago.

A better explanation is that people have less discretionary money to spend (vs a year ago), due to inflation & a slowing economy, and nearly everyone has upgraded their computers already during the pandemic.

Stands to reason that if you discontinue the 27 inch iMac that you're going to suffer a hit to the profits.
I always suspected Apple of gambling with their desktop marketplace by pushing the Mac Studio, requires everything else to be purchased with it. Where as the 27" iMac had a display, keyboard, mouse or trackpad ended up being cheaper to kit.

It's pretty obvious Apple wasn't keen on promoting desktops, when they could ship laptops in larger numbers in smaller boxes by transports. Yes those larger boxed Mac desktops are a casualty of the pandemic period because they are more expensive to transport. The Mac mini not seeing an update is not a substitute to alleviate this situation.

a minor change it will be when they introduce bluetooth 5.3.
while the new m2 pro and m2 max processors will be shown with fanfare and dancing on the stage, next spring or wwdc
I highly doubt they'll wait till WWDC. That be almost an entire year of the consumer Mac lineup having newer chips than the professional devices; not a great look. Especially since 3nm is already set for Q1 2023 production.

If we don't see them in November, I think we'll see them near the beginning of the year (historically January/March are the most likely for MacBook Pro releases).

I deliberated so long wether I should get the Studio or hold out for the 14 M2. Now that I’ve seen the inflation price of the iPad Pro in Sweden, I’m very happy I bought the Studio when I did. A price jump of like 30%. The starting price of the basic 12.9 iPad Pro Wi-Fi no keyboard is the same price as the MacBook Air M2; that makes no sense to me.

Those who had eye strain from the M1 MBA said the 13" MBP did not bother them. Might be worth checking out.

no thanks, fingerprint magnet that scratches when you even look at it>
That's when you have to purchase the Apple Polishing Cloth. It does the job very well, keeping it clean and in pristine condition. It’s there and being offered for a reason

You should not settle for Polishing Cloth. You should go at least with Cloth Pro, but Cloth Max is what you really should splurge on.
