Mac Revenue to 'Decline Substantially' Year Over Year in December Quarter

Thanks to the M2 MacBook Air announcement in June, Mac sales in Q4 2022 saw significant growth. Apple said that Macs brought $11.5 billion, up $2.5 billion year over year. 2022 was a strong year for Macs with Apple earning a total of $40.1 billion from Mac sales.

We’re barely a month into Q4 and 2022 isn’t even over. Why is this paragraph referring to the present as the past??

it’s odd that it’s taking so long to get m2 pro and m2 max out the door. i thought m1 and m2 weren’t even that architecturally different.

Apple's fiscal year starts on Oct 1, same as the Federal government. Therefore its fiscal year ends on Sep 30, meaning fiscal Q4 is the calendar 3rd quarter.

No, he's saying that a small refresh of an existing product will not spur a big burst of sales like a generational redesign did.
I hope you’re right, but I have a feeling there’ll be no update until spring 2022—maybe even 2023. One year later, The M1 Max/Pro still out performs the M2, so Apple doesn’t really have much incentive to update 14/16 pros Pros on a yearly basis. We’ve seen them not update the Mac Pro for years, so there’s some precedent there. But that’s just my guess. Let’s see how it plays out.

Lucky you. Even those don’t work for me.
Yeah it’s really hit and miss with Apple’s display technologies. The iPad Pro 12.9 is apparently the same display tech as the MBP 14/16, but i have to slap a matte screen protector on the iPad to avoid eye strain. Maybe it’s the thicker glass on the iPad, adding glare—who knows.

The Apple fiscal year ends at the end of September. We are now in Q1 2023 according to their fiscal calendar. It’s an accounting thing.

Apple literally just said less than an hour ago FX wasn't a big deal. They saw double digit growth in many international markets, including India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Mexico.
The just released price increases for iPads and iPhones, more Mac price increases coming soon I bet, since for now only the MBA got bumped. Give it a few more months and we'll see. In EU at least, some of the products are now simply absurdly expensive.

It’s because finally the Euro is at parity with USD. Finally we can afford to eat out in Europe.

I think it is ultimately good news. It will push Apple to think harder about true innovation instead of incremental bs on all products.

I'm reading this as there not being any fanfare but, perhaps, a boring 10-minute video similar to the unexciting iPad release.

Here's your M2 Pro/Max/Ultra/Elite MacBook Pros, now in Midnight! or some such 💩.

I think Apple is planning to produce the M2 pro/max/ultra/extreme chips using the newer 3nm technology from TSMC, which has been having some production issues causing delay…

I would have bought an MBA if it didn't cause me eye strain and headaches. I sold my M1 MBA for $700 at a huge almost 50% loss again because of eye strain and headaches.

Plus Apple is way behind on weight. Most 13" laptops are now 2.5 lb or less, many 14" can be had for 2.5 lb.

But ultimately because of the display issue, I may never be able to use macOS again. :(
Can you explain further? What is causing eye strain that you couldn't just change the resolution or something similar? Apple is known for having some of the best displays on the market so I'm curious what the problem was.

Also, M1 Airs are selling for more than $700 around me.

I always suspected Apple of gambling with their desktop marketplace by pushing the Mac Studio, requires everything else to be purchased with it. Where as the 27" iMac had a display, keyboard, mouse or trackpad ended up being cheaper to kit.

It's pretty obvious Apple wasn't keen on promoting desktops, when they could ship laptops in larger numbers in smaller boxes by transports. Yes those larger boxed Mac desktops are a casualty of the pandemic period because they are more expensive to transport. The Mac mini not seeing an update is not a substitute to alleviate this situation.
The Mac Studio and Mac pros are the only decent desktop systems. I despise all in ones. Mac mini Intel was too horrible for my needs, especially the GPU. The Mac Pro was too expensive and the base model was horrible for the price. There was nothing else available.

Ah, the Fusion drive. I understand. ;)

BTW, I originally bought the i7 but hated the fact the fan always came on audibly every time I exported a video for longer than 30s, so I returned it and got the i5, which is much quieter.
I never liked the or need the power of i7 especially the much higher TDP. During remote work I upgraded the 2015 iMac to a 2020 i7 iMac, it's my first Mac with i7 processor. The fan noise is unnoticeable (1200RPM) throughout the years until updating Xcode :p .

Check this thread and the one therein
This is about an almost strobe light effect.

I could have probably gotten a bit more for mine (8c GPU/8/512) but I would have had to wait--it had already taken me a week to move it at that price. Apple's offer was $410.

How is the battery life for this lighter laptops compared to Macs ?
None of the windows laptops i owned had decent battery life and not even close to what they advertise.
