Yeah those Skylake iMacs with 5k screens for barely more than a similar quality 5k screen alone are truly thumbing their nose at you

You're not getting my point. Why would I buy a computer today when a new one "should" be a few weeks away? I'd definitely have buyers remorse by not waiting. True, the new version won't be that much better; but still. I'd rather have a 2017 Ford XXX than a 2016 Ford XXX at this point.

And the ability to upgrade, after purchase. Imagine having 4Tb of SSD data with a quad core i7, and 16Gigs of RAM.

But please keep sticking your nose in the air

Not sticking my nose in the air. I have a 2012 MBP. I also have a 2013 rMBP.

The 2013 is way better. It's lighter. It's faster. It's thinner. It's got a much better screen. It's got SSD instead of a 5400 rpm drive.

What's the 2012 got going for it?
OK I can upgrade the ram and HD to be equal to my 2013 :p and and Ethernet port!

But even after upgrading It's still heavier, slower, bulkier and the screen is still crap...unless there is an upgrade path to a retina screen?

But hey if you think it's more pro I'd be happy to sell it for more than my 2013 is worth. :)

So your rMBP is sporting 4Tb of SSD storage space? Do tell!

Fusion drive is the best thing osX has offered in this decade. Of course you can't use it with macbooks. Why then buyers would pay absurd amounts for ssd?

Yes, but its the last of the MBPs that could you upgrade the drive, the ram, have plenty of ports. Now, you have a sealed computer that has to be replaced instead of upgraded to give it more longevity.

Apple clearly is locking down hardware tighter and tighter and dumbing down software for mass market appeal so upgrading means buying a new device.

Apple is no longer a 'computer' company its a consumer electronics appliance company.

A Samsung 4TB SSD for only $1400? LOL pull the other one mate.

My 2012 MBP has a 500GB 5400rpm HD. My 2013 rMBP has 512GB SSD.

At work I connect to a server which has a 4TB raid. I don't see the benefit of installing a new HD that's worth more than my heavy computer with a crap screen.

It's probably two 2TB

You don't know what Fusion drive is and what are it's benefits?

Sorry but Apple is a "gadgets and gizmos" toy company now. With the departure of the Steves it is no longer associating itself with computers (hence shortening the name to just 'Apple' a while back).
That happened under Steve Jobs.

That would 8Tb. Two 2Tb drives, one replacing the optical drive, is a lot more affordable.

You enjoy your less weight, I'll enjoy my functionality. I don't feel the need to insult you, why do you feel the need to insult me?

I believe that says more about you.

Good bye

Agreed, and to a degree, they're right but its hard to justify buying a new 2,000 computer every couple of years, when I could spend half that on a competitor, and upgrade the internals to increase longevity.

I will say that I purchased an iMac, which is virtually sealed, and I love the computer, its been great but I struggled at justifying the purchase in part because I cannot easily upgrade it

I agree 100%, including the iMac purchase. I maxed out the ram on mine but really was frustrated that I either had to pay well over market value for the SSD, or be stuck with the slower spring disk as I didn't want to avoid the warranty by upgrading it myself.

Same goes for MBP, the Mac Pro, et al.

I'm not insulting you. As an owner of both the 2012 MBP and a 2013rMBP it's insulting being told that the machine that is thicker, heavier, slower, and has a low resolution screen is somehow better because I can put a 4TB SSD in it.
I do enjoy the less weight. Because these are laptops and they get carried around. In that regard the 2012 model is a brick.

I was saving for a MBP as I see EOL coming for my 2012 Mac Mini. I bought a new refrigerator instead. It's a current model and won't be obsolete in 5 years.

Hope it wasn't an Apple Fridge. iFridge???? No that's not it... iFreeze :p

If made by Apple, it'll be thinner, lighter, run hotter, and require a new Fridge when you want to place another Carton of milk inside.

All food sources would be preloaded. And there will only be one port to be used to retrieve your food. Sadly, you will have to choose between using the port to get food, or using the port to power the Fridge. You can't do both simultaneously.

If unplugged from the wall, food will go bad faster. But if it's plugged in, then you can't get to the food. So you have to choose your usage wisely.

A new fridge can be obtained when food is depleted, or has gone bad.

If you want different food choices, you will need to wait 3 to 5 years for Apple to release a new model containing more desirable food.

Very good! Maybe that's a new way to diet. I did think about Samsung, but already have a heater in my house....

My apologies. replying to multiple people, in Macrumors new mobile format is rather annoying, and I may have associated other comments along with yours.

Personally, I GREATLY value the ability to update my macbook pro. And so do many others, seeing as they still sell quite a few 13" 2012 cMBPs.

cMBP > rMBP when it comes to upgradeability. rMBP > cMBP for just about everything else. If you GREATLY value the ability to update my macbook pro(see above), then cMBP can easily be viewed as better. But why consider it an insult???

No reason both groups can't be satisfied. But since apple would lose the insane profit margins on the glued in MBPs, those like me who value upgradeability, get he shaft.

no, 95% of the worlds software is not running on OSx.

that other 95% isn't just windows. and isn't just intel. (you've reversed the logic). Apple's OSx currently only accounts for ~5% of the worlds Operating system usage.

And microsoft (except for Surfaces) never were a PC manufacturer. i'm still not sure what point you're even trying to make

and no. Stand-Alone PC's are NOT dying. in fact, the PC Gaming industry alone was worth over 35 Billion dollars in 2015 and is continueing to grow.

the PC industry is not dying. what you're seeing is that the "pre-built" PC industry is slowing down and is a mature market, where margins are narrow, and volume is key. Sales have overall slowed down in the market because for most users, whats out today, si enough. But it doesn't negate that there are users who do need more, and as we've moved on Apple has provided less to these "more" people than ever before.

and yes, judging from how long it's been, Apple maybe very well planning a full blown refresh of the lineup with new designs, etc. But that doesn't negate my point about switching to ARM. unless Apple has some magical, never seen before, never leaked, and never able to be reproduced Arm based chipset that they've magically pulled out their asses without even their own licensed FAB's from knowing, Apple is not planning on making the Arm switch here
[doublepost=1476304874][/doublepost]

this is delusional :p

idealistic dream that for many would be nice, but ultimately still just a dream. the iPad pro's are great devicves, but to think that their CPU's are even remotely full featured and capable of replacing full desktop CPU's is ignorant at best.

Also, wireless is not the best solution all the time. I sure as hell am not uploading my 4k recorded video to the cloud, just to download it to my computer again. there's a significant difference between 20mbps upstream to cloud (because lets face it, noto everyone is or has access to synchronous gigabit) and directly wired to your target. do you think a photographer, or video editor with gigabytes of recorded materials / media is going to wait all day for their material to be uploaded to the cloud before working on?

do you think corporations who required 100% up time connectivity, with 100% stable network access are going to rely on wireless? its an ideological pipe dream.

Im going to put this in my signature in 10 years
