As I have written above - Siri was turned off completely, too.
Did you create a new account when you set up the machine or use Migration Assistant?

I initially used Migration Assistant to bring over my user folder so it would import my iTunes library and media into the Music app. Once I set up the machine, I noticed some issues with new calendar events not autocompleting events and attendees, along with a few other gremlins. I erased the machine using the menu command in system preference, and set up a new user account (manually importing my music). So far everything seems to behave as expected (including sleep).

I set up my new Mac Studio from scratch w/o Migration Assistant - only the iCloud I did not change. Even the Apple Music was started from scratch, since I went from a US account to a German one. All things are installed new. I did not encounter any strange things. I use Little Snitch - here of course all possible things had to be allowed for new.

I have iCloud sync turned on for everything except Private Relay and Hide my Email, so I don't think that is affecting sleep.

To add some experiences on this. I historically used Apple Magic Keyboard and Mouse but some months back migrated to using a 3DConnexion Cadmouse and Keychron keyboard on Mac mini M1. I swear it was stable until I upgraded to the Monterey 12.2 (recall there being a Macrumors article on issues with sleep) and official updates beyond didn't fix it.

I've since switched to Mac Studio on 12.3 and can confirm I have similar issues (with a clean install no migration). I did find that sleeping through terminal and switching the mouse off before seemed to create stable sleep (though frustrating).

I'm fortunate still to have the Apple keyboard and mouse, just tried that and the first time it woke up again, but on trying to sleep again it stayed there for a few minutes.

So, at the risk of drawing a conclusion, there does seem to be an issue with non Apple peripherals connected to Bluetooth and sleeping.

just fyi I have a studio that refuses to sleep and I do not have a studio display.

I used cleanmymac to neuter all the background updater crap google chrome and microsoft shove in to startup items and it seemed to help but Ill confirm in this thread later.

Also backup software can keep a new machine awake a while until it completes its first image so if you have a synology or whatever that could be waking it up a lot until things settle.

I fixed my issue on my Studio (and probably was the same issue I had with Monterey on my iMac) - it was the bluetooth from my Logitech MX Keys keyboard triggering the computer to wake. If I flick the bluetooth switch on the keyboard off while asleep the issue goes away.
Thanks, that solved it for me. I switched the Mx keyboard on Bt off, set the Studio to sleep and it sleeps like it should. Before that it would instantly wake.

Having same issue here. I have LG monitor and SSD plugged in, and for peripherals I use magic keyboard, magic trackpad, and mx master 3. I think this is a software issue.

This is my energy saver settings:

I've had my new Mac Studio Ultra set up for around 48 hours now and have been experiencing these same issues. It's been fairly inconsistent and I haven't been able to recognise any patterns yet as it's still too soon, but it's been happening enough for me to have searched for a thread like this.

I should start by saying that I have x2 Benq 32 inch displays connected, a couple of LaCie portable disk drives, a Magic Keyboard and a Logitech MX Master 3.

Another really annoying problem I've been getting frequently is that when I wake the displays, I find many application windows have been scaled down into the bottom left-hand corner of the main screen.

Sometimes the Mac Studio and displays will wake immediately after going into sleep. Other times, the Mac Studio does appear to go into sleep mode, but I notice that the connected disk drives keep waking and spinning up, then going back to sleep again … but continuously. I've also noticed at times that even though the displays haven't woken, the fan in the Mac Studio is running, so it's not really sleeping.

I've tried sleeping with Bluetooth turned off, but it didn't appear to resolve anything. However, just before this I did switch off the Logi MX3 and then the Mac did go into and stay in sleep mode. I have tried adjusting the energy savings prefs, but I haven't found a combination that makes any difference. Usually I check Prevent Mac from automatically sleeping and un-check Put hard to sleep etc… I don't want the external drives to sleep whilst the Mac is on, but instead I want them to sleep when the Mac is asleep, but this doesn't seem to be happening.

If I have to leave the Mac on 24/7 then so be it, but the thing that's really frustrating me right now is this problem with application windows bunching up into the corner of the screen when the displays wake. I previously had one of these displays connected to my iMac 2020 and never had any issues of the sort, so I don't think there's any problem with the display itself – I also have another one connected to my iMac Pro and again, no issues with it.

Edit… in fact, something I'm noticing just as I sit here typing is that even though I have un-checked Put hard disks to sleep when possible, my two LaCie USB-C drives keep sleeping and waking, like on loop.

I had this problem out of the blue with a late 2013 imac. I fixed by doing a full shut down.

It cleared whatever was running in the background that kept waking it up after about 20 secs.

Never re occurred since.

After some investigation, I was able to make my Studio sleep if I unplug ALL the cables / hubs connected via the USB-C / Thunderbolt port. Tried it couple of times and left it for couple of hours, it won't randomly turn on anymore. I connect my display via the HDMI port so it's not a big deal but studio display users may not like this. Hopefully Apple will fix this issue soon.

As a Studio Display user, I can confirm it does not affect sleep.

I suggest you may want to finish troubleshooting your setup by adding a cable each night until you find the device that is waking your Mac. I would start with the hub, as that is a likely suspect.

I have 2 Benq PD3320U displays and a 3DConnexion CadMouse Pro and Keychron Keyboards. I was finding the battery life on the Keychron devices was awful since a few Monterey updates. I've pretty much isolated the issue to 3rd party Bluetooth devices. One interim fix (on assumption Apple will correct this at some point since it did work in the past) is to do the following:

Open Terminal, ensuring you are in focus of the app
Type: pmset sleepnow but don't hit Enter just yet
Switch off the mouse
Hit Enter (to execute the pmset command)

I've found by doing that you can get the machine to sleep.

Is pressing the power button to invoke sleep not as effective and quicker?

I have an M1 Mac Mini which also will not stay asleep. (LG monitor, Apple Bluetooth keyboard and Magic Trackpad). I've tried disconnecting things and quitting things and nothing helped. But when I turned off Wi-fi, this appears to have solved the problem, at least for now. For me. I will keep testing, others may wish to try this too.

My theory is that the 'network activity' which wakes the mac is actually coming from my iPhone and / or my Apple Watch.

(My Mac Mini is still connected to the Internet through Ethernet. I have the Wi-fi on usually, only because this gives better interaction with the Watch, which can fill in the password for me and stuff like that).

The newest Public beta did not help, too. I can only repeat: on my Studio exactly the same items are connected as they were with my former iMac. There all worked absolutely fine on Monterey. Now they do not anymore. So the only conclusion that makes sense is to blame the Studio or/and the Studio display. All other things are as they were.

It’s also possible a third-party accessory didn’t fully conform to the spec, but didn’t misbehave on intel Macs.

i’m not saying that’s the case, but just because something worked one way before does not mean it was following all specifications correctly. This has happened very often in the past.

Hardware testing is only going to test against existing products. If a third-party finds a trick that does not cause problems, they will use it. Why spend more development money making something perfect when it works just fine?

That I can accept. BUT: unplugging all accessories except Magic Keyboard and Trackpad does not change the situation here, too. So the accessories are not the culprits. And btw I don't have anything really fancy in use: a USB midi Keyboard, A DVD player and a Stream Deck.

And: my wake ups don't happen by engaging any of those accessories. It regularly happens, if I give a Siri command like "What is the time" via iPhone or Watch, or any HomeKit equipment is activated.

I think the culprit, for me, might be Chronosync - specifically its "scheduler" which runs in the background even if the app is closed. Force quitting the scheduler in Activity Monitor allows my Mac Mini to sleep, so far at least.

Anyone else with this issue have Chronosync on their machine? Or similar background activity?

Anecdotal data seems all over the place on this issue. I never had the issue on my Intel Mac until immediately after updating to Monterey. Very odd!

So disappointing. Now at beta 4 unlikely problem will be fixed in 12.4 coming in a few weeks.

Finally someone else with this really annoying problem. It drives me absolutely nuts!

For those that don't have it, picture the scene: You had all your windows (Safari, mail, etc) sized and positioned to your liking. Lock or sleep the Mac and come back sometime later and very often apps such as Safari or mail are now positioned in the bottom left of the screen and need to be moved and resized again. Other times as the Mac is waking you see them momentarily appearing in the bottom left before jumping to the position that you last had them.

Why these kind of things still happen, along with finder windows, all these years on is beyond me (and Apple it would seem).

Oh yeh I get that too! I figured it was an issue with my Benq monitor.
