Love mine, highly recommend it if you're willing to wait

Same here. Have had mine for about a month and it's a joy to use.

For people looking for stock, don't forget B&H. They have a variety of configurations in stock and ready to ship.

Also...if you live in a US state that collects sales tax, use their store credit card and save the tax - which is 10% in California.

So people really need a M1 Max? I have an iPad Pro and it handles virtually everything for me…..
I have an M1 iMac and it's way too slow for my needs.
I do a lot of intensive UI design, Xcode, Office, BI, Teams (which is a turtle on any computer even a PC).
Waiting for the M2 Pro / Max.

It would be interesting to see what are the yields for these M1 chips and how many can they actually make.
The Mac Studio is anyway a low volume product while the M1 Ultra is a server grade chip in terms of size. Developing such a chip exclusively for such a product is generally not worth it.

I'm not surprised the Studio is more popular than anticipated. The Studio seems to me like the Mac that a lot of people want - a powerful desktop with flexible uses (all those ports!) that is priced within reason. For a long time I've felt like my only options for the desktop were a choice between pretty-but-limited or prohibitively expensive. But now we have the Studio for those who want something in between. Nice. I hope this line continues to sell well and thus sticks around.

Have you tried to buy a new car recently? You would be crazy happy when dealership offered you a 2 month delivery.

As for the main issue - looks like a fake availability issue to pump the sales.
I doubt that. Every manufacturer is posting sale 45-50 % below last year. They would love to be able to sell more cars.

The Mac Studio is a hybrid between a Mac mini and a Mac Pro
In your dreams. A real Mac Pro model would come with expansion slots as well as updatable RAM and storage. Especially with the price tag on these, since professionals are not going to buy a new machine every two or three years like Apple thinks they should.

I have an iPhone 13 Pro and it handles virtually everything for me. 😁

I know you’re being facetious and point taken but I honestly do not understand how so many people get through life in the modern era with just a phone.

Yeah, B&H Photo has periodically been getting even the higher-end M1 Ultra configs in stock.

Here's how to check...

Go to this link that shows all in-stock Mac Studio configurations:

If you don't see the one you're looking for, then click through any of them, and click "Request Stock Alert". I've seen some of them come in sooner than the "Expected availability".

The card @citysnaps is helpfully referring to is the Payboo card, and yes, it can save you hundred$$$ on a Mac Studio. Sign up for it in advance here: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/credit-cards

After you successfully apply, make sure to check credit limit and make sure it has enough to cover your entire desired Mac Studio. If not, you can call and request a higher amount.

The double-win here is that you may get it sooner than Apple or other stores, at a lower price. B&H also periodically has a discount on some configs too, the other day they had like a 2-day special on the M1 Max 10-Core | 32-Core/32GB/1TB config, where it was $200 off for $2,199.

What I don’t see in the article is that the 64gob memory options pushes the Max out 8-10 weeks as well, in addition to the base Ultra. Definitely appears to (still) be a constraint on those RAM modules.

Edit: Is it a different part than the MBP’s use? I note that 64gb doesn’t affect the lead times for M1 Max Macbook Pros. If its the same part then I’m sure it’s easily prioritized for the more popular MacBook Pro lineup... still seems kinda wild to me.

I ordered one the 13th of August with 64 GB of unified memory and 1 TB of storage, and the delivery times were from middle October till November and yesterday it shipped. Now it says it’s going to be delivered next Tuesday.

Echoing B&H mentions above. I needed a new machine ASAP. Ordered M1 Max w/ high end gpu, 32 gb ram, 1 tb SSD last Sunday at noon from B&H. 49 hours later, it was in my hands—and I'm in the rural Midwest.

Good for you! Clearly you would be ok even with the Pro.
How many times do people need to explain that there are professions/jobs that need as much power as possible and there is no single computer that is fast enough. How many times does this need to be said before people stop asking this ridiculous question?

People will always need faster computers - lets get that engraved somewhere.

Science, movies, etc. - all massive power hungry professions in some categories.

Is that clear now or will someone ask again and again and again?

Adorama also has many of the 64GB models in stock and you can save 5% if you use their credit card.

Dealerships are a different story as they are fighting with the manufacturers especially Ford. Ford is getting ticked off that the dealers are over pricing their cars and dealerships are complaining that they have to take at least 75% of the people who order their car at the price they were quoted at. That 45-50 % below last year sales is hogwash.

Same ordering/shipping experience here (California). B&H certainly has their act together, both in purchasing large volumes from Apple to have stock available, and in fulfillment.

I really love doing business with B&H, whether it's cameras, printers/paper, audio gear, or computers. And have never had an issue/problem dealing with them, but knowing if I did, it would be quickly resolved.
