Yep, nothing new today. Man, the wait is getting ridiculous. Core 2 Duo on the 12th for MBPs? I hope so. I could care less about a new Nano.

This is the longest the powerbook has gone without a case design since Steve Jobs came to apple. The only other longest was the G3 (March 1998) to G4 (January 2001) thats about 2 years and 9 months. The first Aluminum g4's (12 in. 17in.) came January 2003 and the 15in. came September 2003. Thats almost 4 years for the 12'' and 17'' and 3 years exactly for the 15''.

For that reason I'm predicting something bigger than just a simple C2D upgrade...although I'm most likely wrong, because logically the upgrade will be CPU/GPU based. Just imagine the impact apple would have releasing a new, cooler (temp. and style wise), and faster MBP to once again leap ahead of the competition. In this current market of computer manufacturers putting very fast chips in laptops, Apple should focus on keeping them cool and thin, while retaining the speed. That is what makes Apple the most innovative and exciting computer company, and I think this fall will prove that once again.

While I'm anxiously awaiting, I'm kind of glad...anything placed on the store without an announcement seems like it would be lackluster...speed bump, price drop, etc.

While that's all good, still hoping for that Merom mini with new graphics processor (and a speed bump, price drop). I can dream, can't I?

I was waiting for a MBP, too, but I'm kind of glad they're not rushing it. I think we can all agree that the MacBook line could have used some extra time for quality control.

Actually, the Macbook Pros have much different cases than the Aluminum PBG4s.
Thus, it's been 7.5 months since the last case re-design.

Ahhh this Merom MBP is proving to be a major waste of my time...

I HAVE to order my MBP for school and waiting for the Merom is becoming a major problem.

I am going to have to order my MBP this week or the beginning of next week, so hopefully the Merom launches within my 14 days... :/

Any chance Apple could bump the Mac Mini spec by the end of the day?

I doubt it, I don't think there are any expected changes soon for the mini's.

And if they were going to change anything they would have done it when they took the store down this morning. I think?

Mbp

I have to agree with tabaczka. This is becoming a big waste of time and very annoying. I have never owned a Mac, but now that Mac's have Intel processors and I can dual boot windows for gamming and run Linux using parallels I thought I'd give one a try.

I accidentally stumbled on to this site while looking for MBP reviews, and learned about this WWDC thing. There seemed to be some basis to the rumors that the MBP would see and upgrade to C2D then (or at least an announcement of the upgrade date). That's worth waiting a week I told myself. That was a no go. Ok, then it seemed that it might be a non keynote announcement...nope. Ok, maybe one of these super secret, stealth, Black Op, Tuesday, store updates... 3 Tuesdays later...nothing. Ok maybe an early September Tuesday...Then the store was down today for a few minutes...heart racing...still nothing but more disappointment. Maybe the 12th at this Paris thing...then again maybe not...how about the 25th, it is a Tuesday after all...yea right. I know! Maybe Dec 30, 2008...that's a Tuesday!

I could have bought a high-end laptop with a Memron processor from a half dozen venders for over a week now. Come on Apple...what's the hold up? If Apple is actually waiting around for some big Mac meeting in Paris to announce a simple hardware update (that their competitors have already made) so that they can make a big to-do about being last in the market with this update...well then honestly that's just stupid. OK I could understand being secretive about this upgrade and making a big deal about the announcement if they were going to be the first in the market with a memron laptop. But that ship has sailed and Apple wasn't even on the dock. Even if they release this update this month, the only thing they can brag about now is that, "Hey, a month later, we finally caught up with Dell!"

Every Mac user I have ever met was practically a fanatic about Apple. From what I have seen over the last month, I couldn't tell you why. Honestly, Apple should have a little more respect for its customer base by being a lot more forthcoming about updates/upgrades. What's the big deal! At least release the date, so people can make plans to either upgrade or not. Every computer manufacture in the world knows that most schools start around August, and students looking to upgrade or by new computers will be looking either shortly before or after school starts. I have read dozens of post from students trying to decide whether to wait or not. How can they make this decision without even knowing WHEN (or even IF) this upgrade will happen. Did anyone happen to look at the poll on this site last week? Almost 3,000 people waiting for a C2D MBP and that is just the people that took the time to do the poll. There is probably really 10x that many.

I'm sorry, but IMO, given the 64 bit improvements that will come with the new version of Mac OS X, every MBP Apple sells/has sold between WWDC and the announcement (not the release... just the announcement) of a C2D MBP is a disgrace. If you know when the upgrade will happen, and decide to buy now any way (or don't do your pre-purchase homework) than that is your problem. If you buy one today and three days later they start shipping C2D's that is borderline unethical IMO.

Come on, Apple, how about actually giving us some information to work with? I have waited this long, so unfortunately I'll probably still wait and by a Mac. Why... I don't know. The only thing that would make this wait worth while (and justify the release delay) is some crazy announcement like they were upgrading the GPU from the x1600 to the x1800 as a surprise. Some how I doubt there will be any surprises.

I've noticed that the Mac minis are now ready to ship in 24 hours again but the product specs haven't been upgraded. Think I will just order one anyway. Fed up of waiting now.

Amen Wally.

I highly doubt it but maybe some information will come on the 12th. At least a date.

I say stop waiting and buy on the 16th after the expo.. If it doesn't come out then, at least you will have to the 30th to exchange.

Maybe we can bring this discussion here....

Some thought the mini would be updated today.

Oh very true. I usually don't pay much attention to the Mini...

But I still think they would have done the update this morning.. I don't think they would take the store down twice in a day...?

But its Apple so they do want they want. haha..

Orange: "You probably shouldn't take your site down twice in a day"
Apple: "I do what I want, B****"

like i said on another thread, what if apple took the site down to prepare it for tomorrow? yea im not sure, but i just remember that they did the mighty mouse on a wednseday and they dont have to release on tuesdays, so what if its tomorrow? yea thats probably highly unlikely, but it just seems odd that they took the site down on a tuesday morning and made no changes. matinence is always done at night. doesnt make sence to me!

Haha I was sitting here thinking about that too.

If I had the power to take down the store, I would for a few minutes just to see the flurry of activity it produced on all the rumor forums..

Whether it was an intentional downage or not, I'm sure there were some apple people enjoying the furor created because of it. Maybe they even came to this site and saw everyone say, "The site's down! They must be updating!" Hell, I was right there thinking we were going to see some new stuff as well. Joke's on me and you. :)

you guys say that apple takes down the site to prepare for upgrade as they have done in the past. how long was the wait-time from preparing upgrade to actual updates on the site? according to history of course.
