Since I'm running OS X 10.11.5 beta I'm actually having less issues. With 10.11.4 I indeed had a lot of those freezes when using Safari, but as of the last beta of 10.11.5 not at all. But stil... It's a shame that these problems actually do occur. Apple used to be the company that made very stable software, it was their core business in fact. But now it seems like there's a new issues with every update they release. Hope they'll fix it.

Huh, Windows isn't what it used to be. I haven't had a system wide freeze on Windows 10, ever. I've had a single crash while gaming and that's it.
Same here. It's ironic that OS X so far has had far more stability issues compared to Windows. BSODs aren't new to me, but they did rarely occur to me. :p

My 15", early 2013 rMBP just had this exact issue happen yesterday. Doing nothing significant (safari, mail, pages, numbers), I walked away from my desk and when I returned a few minutes later, the screen was dark, asleep as it should have been, but when I touched the trackpad to wake it, the cursor showed up on the still black screen and it wouldn't respond to any input. It finally went into endless beachball and required a hard reboot.

Running the latest beta which otherwise has been great.

REAAAAALY?

1 crash since windows 10.
1 crash at least every other week with El Cap.

So tired of this....
You lucky guy! My MBP is absolutely useless with El Cap. Not even standby works, it's always empty when I open it back up. Not to speak of overall system performance or random apps that "quit unexpectedly" (crash).

I'm not saying my Windows PC doesn't crash from time to time - it does! But WAY less than my MBP and the OS is a lot faster and less sluggish..on worse hardware - We are living in a crazy world!

Apple Engineer: Sir, OSX 10.11.4 is freezing up. Let's focus R&D efforts to fix.

Apple Executive: Er well... let's focus on making a rose colored car instead!

New Apple Watch wristbands anyone?

Agree, it's happening less with the latest beta, but it still happened twice to me since I installed the beta a week ago. Guess that's better than multiple times a day though.

I thought it was just me! Only happened on my iMac which is actually running 10.11.5 PB4 but I've had to power off/on about 3-4 times in the last couple of weeks due to a beachball and non-response. Don't think it had been switched off for about a year before that! Hopefully something they can resolve in 10.11.5.

Always strange when other MBAs running 10.11.4 are perfectly fine.

Hello, i have this same problem on MacBook Pro Retina 13" 2014, i have install Safari DP and 10.11.5, my macbook freeze on 2-5 min without dependence :(

Thank god windows users don't make videos of windows crashes, youtube would collapse.

I don't know what kind of Windows you use.
I have not had a single crash on my XPS 15 9550 and Windows 10 Pro ( even the develper previews are stable - I had only trackpad issus in the developer preview)

My rMBP late 2013 15", 16GB, 1TB ssd on the other side randomly crashes (I made a fresh Install of 10.11.4) and from time to time the external 4k Display becomes black ...

Today Windows 10 Pro is much more stable compared to MacOS X (... and the "gatekeeper" nonsense and the endless home-calls of the os - but this is also in Windows )

BTW. for all people using bootcamp try out windows defender on your macos partition's ~/Library/mail folder -- mine found 15 additional viruses ( not found by MacOSX or ClamXAV )

I assume you are being facetious but your comment makes little sense. Suggesting the team that are potentially working on car R&D should be fixing an OSX bug is equivalent to reassigning the cleaning team at 1 Infinite Loop to fix this bug.

Hello.

This is a bug. To resolve this bug simply reinstall your graphics drivers on OSX.
For example if you are using Nvidia Web-drivers.
HOW TO FIX
Follow this steps:

.01 click the nvidia icon in the right top corner on your desktop and choose OSX Default Graphics drivers Drivers
.02 Reboot
.03 Click the Nvidia icon on your desktop and choose Nvidia Web Driver
.04 Reboot.
(Fixed)

Why would you use nVidia Web drivers on the MacBook Pro? There is no need to do so. The drivers included for those laptops supported are more than capable.

If you think it is caused by people using the nVidia Web drivers, then it's user caused and not a bug with OSX.

Not had any issues on 08 Mac Pro with nVidia drivers.

"Several times over the past year I have had to do a hard shut down of my Mac Pro after seeing one (only) or more warnings that Adobe has stopped a potentially harmful something or another. It happens so quickly and then the window with the warning is gone. However, my computer is frozen. I am unable to use ANY application. Only the cursor moves.

Secondary to this is that when I restart my computer, and I have selected Cancel (to prevent those previously open windows from opening), when I restart Safari, the same windows are opened which I had open when the freeze occurred.

Does anyone know what I can do to eliminate this?

Mac Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), 16GB"

Some suggested I update to El Capitan, telling me that this would remove adware every time it was started, and I did that after backing up (cloning my boot drive, an SSD).

Updated OS to El Capitan two days ago. OS X 10.11.4.

While reading the MacRumors article on the VOIP lawsuit, I got another warning -

Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation. ...

/about/blank

is trying to communicate with ...

pagead2.googlesyndication.com

I was unable to click on either the OK or the Settings... button but my iTunes tune continued playing while everything else was frozen.

This time the warning remained on the screen until I shut down my computer, and the screenshots were preserved.

Force quit / shutdown. Restarted. Staying away from MacRumors."

And yet here I am.

UPDATE: June 1, 2016 - Installed 10.11.5 on May 28. So far no problems with shutdowns. However, a couple of quirks / bugs now exist.
1. Changed the name of a file, pressed return and then down arrow to select next file name to change. NOT. The delay in moving means I have to use the mouse to select the next file, a royal pain.

2. The hot corner for starting the screen saver display images does NOT work. Maybe I have to restart under Disable, then change it back to Enable and restart again. The other options (go to Dashboard, put display to sleep) for the hot corners function as expected.

At least the battery will last longer.
Actually my CPU seems to go into max mode as I have come in from making tea to find the mac froze and fans are running and battery dropped in 5 minutes by 5%

Hello Col4bin.

The driver used is not important. In this example i used the Nvidia Web-driver. The importance is that the current graphics driver should be reinstalled and the bug is fixed.

Always fascinating. Why are just selected models affected. What changes to the OS were made to make the new installation unstable. Why aren't these things tested properly to the Nth degree, Apple has access to all the models of devices. Yes, always fascinating.
