This has been a problem ever since I got my Mabook Pro (Early 2015). I didn't happen in Yosemite, but ever since I upgrade to El Capitan, it happens far too often

REAAAAALY?

1 crash since windows 10.
1 crash at least every other week with El Cap.

So tired of this....

I totally agree. This whole windows crashing is soo overblown that no longer is even funny. My iMac and Macbook Air running latest OS are less stable than 3 years old lenovo t430 and several years old custom build PC. Both my PC and lenovo see 3-5x more use than any of my Mac's.

Ahahahhahahahhahaha.... No...

Backed up by the mass of people having issues NOW with OSX... ;)

I should point out that I didn't say I have NO issues with Windows 10.. Just a whole lot less of them..
But you know. Lets not focus on the fact that OSX is no longer the OS handed down by god onto mere mortals. Lets just have a deflection about how bad Vista was.

At least El Capitan automatically reboots on both my Mac Pros when it crashes after several minutes. Never freezes.

This is awkward for me as I had my laptop freeze 3 times in a day and now I got huge exams next week and now I'm forced to use a windows laptop as it keeps going

its a function (and always has been at apple) of apple priding itself on being the intersection of Arts and Technology, as it likes to have described itself.

i think of Project Titan when it is finished as a project and becomes a Core business and the apple self-driven car becomes a reality, with mission critical systems running on apple OS.

we will be often veering onto Arts Boulevard i think.

Finally, this goes public, somewhat.
Mac OS X is just Microsoft 10 years ago, and they will need to go through paths Microsoft has gone.
Windows 10 is already more stable than Mac OS X 10.11.4.
Apple, come on and go to release hotfix like what Microsoft does always.

Huh, Windows isn't what it used to be. I haven't had a system wide freeze on Windows 10, ever. I've had a single crash while gaming and that's it.

Since Windows 7 , Windows has come a long way. I spend most of my time on my Mac, but I've not had any major issues with my PC. My MBP wireless while on the other hand was one of my worst experiences, apple eventually sorted.

Apple never was a software or internet service company.
The switch to Intel including the BSD based Unix kernel saved Apple.
The resources Apple assigns to software seems minimal.
(Except to implement new iOS gimmicks that are onlz on a new device, i.e live photoes, nightshift, 3D touch)

Gonna have to try this. I have had plenty of lock ups in past few weeks.

Hello Cerote.
The solution mention earlier works for Mac Pro Early 2008, using Nvidia 8800 GTX.
The OS X default drivers seems more stable than the Nvidia Webdrivers.

The steps mention resolved all random freezing. This bug occurs everytime OSX is updated to a newer version.

Who gives a ****** what happens on Windows machines , lets pretend I only have a Mac, this is bad, remember it just works??

FYI my Mac is out crashing my PC . And the PC has random custom parts, while apple knows exactly what parts are in my MBP

The irony is my MBP on ElCap (ridiculously unstable) is out crashing my main hackintosh thats also on ElCap (which is very stable). Meanwhile linux on an ancient laptop is the most reliable thing in the house.

Nae luck then, I have 4 Macs which I use daily and I haven't had a single crash/lockup so it just works for me.

Probably no need to spend time in that if your computer doesn't have Nvidia graphics.

Hello.

This is a bug. To resolve this bug simply reinstall your graphics drivers on OSX.
For example if you are using Nvidia Web-drivers.
HOW TO FIX
Follow this steps:

.01 click the nvidia icon in the right top corner on your desktop and choose OSX Default Graphics drivers Drivers
.02 Reboot
.03 Click the Nvidia icon on your desktop and choose Nvidia Web Driver
.04 Reboot.
(Fixed)

I don't think this will make any difference on the MacBook Pro's that don't have Nvidia graphics. The MacBook Pro 13" models mentioned in the article has Intel graphics only.

Sure, but that doesn't necessarily mean there are less problems with Windows overall. ;)

For everybody this happens to, there are millions it doesn't happen to. (Like this cowboy = 2008 MBP 17" and 2014 MBP 15.4" on 10.11.4

Granted annoying, BUT:

It will be fixed!!!

...and if it was easy, it would have been already.

I can confirm this happens to me as well. First one application will freeze up. Then another. Then everything.

And this happens on two different iMac models. 2011 and 2013. 27 inch.

This is definitely not limited to a particular model.

You're freezing it wrong...

But more seriously: while quality of both Apple software and OS is at an all time low, this is just a driver issue. Apple and Intel should act faster on these things.

I don't normally comment on these posts but I have multiple MacBook Pros running on OSX 10.11.4 and I have experienced this 'bug' or 'system freeze' multiple times. Nothing heavy is running at the time, just Safari, iTunes or a few Microsoft programs open at the time. I have tried everything to regain access to the Mac but there is absolute no response from the Mac. Whether it is using a trying a wired mouse, connecting an external display, plugged into power, even using the iOS Remote app to control your iTunes music library does not work. The whole screen on the Mac freezes. The time, battery, WiFi signal do not update from the position they were at from which the freeze begins. The only way to regain control is what this post has said, which is to force a hard reboot.

My early 2009 (I think) 13" MacBook Pro seizes up constantly too. It's unusable. I get it started up, and *BOOM*! (More like ZzzzZzzzZZzzz)

Perhaps if it were warmer here, I could enjoy the beach balls. I thought it was just because it's old. Mavericks seemed so much better...
