That's not the fault of the OS. I've lost a considerable amount of work before because of application or OS crashes but I don't blame the software, system, or hardware. I blame myself for not saving my work frequently enough (or turning on auto-save to a short interval). Crashes will probably happen. The fault lies with the person not having a backup or a more frequently saved file. Having "faith in the awesome power of the Mac" is not an Apple or Mac problem, it's a person problem.

Ahhhh but Apple products are built upon an age of solid, reliable stability. No virus attacks, no malware, no crashes.
In other words, I'm a Mac not a PC..

That used to be the case and more and more people have complete faith in their Mac and the cloud and the average user isn't tech savvy enough to know how they all work.

Stuff like this really damages the brand. Nobody wants to buy a new machine and have it lock up every time they try and open Safari.

Same thing has been happening to my 15" model in my signature. I thought it was isolated.

For me it only happens when video is open in like Chrome or Safari. I think it's DXVA related. Also only began with latest update. When it freezes it's exactly like in the video, the force touch trackpad won't click anymore, the screen is just frozen on whatever was being displayed etc

I have a mid 2014 Retina and it was affective by the problem. Reseting the NVRAM nor reinstalling the OS helped. I was able to fix it this way:

1. Make a complete back up of the Mac Book
2. Make list of all the installed applications
3. Using the recovery tools, erase the entire Hard drive and reinstall the OS
4. During the OS setup: recover Only the User Data.
5. Reinstall all Applications.

No problems since

Maybe Adobe Flash Player might be causing the freezing when hardware support for flash player is enabled. I seem Macbook pro with only Intel Irs pro GPU freeze up at random on 10.10.5

Another thing one might check is to delete items in save application state ( ~/Library/Save application state )

No issues for me since using the latest Beta of 10.11.5. Fingers crossed for a confirmed fix soon.

Arcana, you don't know what you are on about. This thread relates to MACBOOK PRO's. Those laptop things with drivers provided, where you DO NOT need web drivers.

Please read the original thread before posting rubbish, where people could believe you and do more harm to there systems if they follow your 'advice'.

...........The article is talking about Macbook Pros, true, but Macbook Pros are NOT the only computers affected by this issue.

I have the 15" MBP and it freezes all the time. It begins with Safari and then the other apps become unresponsive so it sounds the same as this article describes. Every time it happens I curse the new Apple and reflect on how close we have come to the old OS9 days when I had to reboot multiple times a day. I have explored moving to Linus but the software alternative just aren't there so I'm waiting it out. OS9 was a travesty for reliability, then came the wonderfulness of OS X which lasted through Snow Leopard. We are back in the valley now but I'm hopeful Apple will come out of it.

I assume you are being facetious but your comment makes little sense. Suggesting the team that are potentially working on car R&D should be fixing an OSX bug is equivalent to reassigning the cleaning team at 1 Infinite Loop to fix this bug.
No, but maybe it's an indication that they're diversifying away from their core competency-OS and hardware. What did Henry Ford say- you can have any color you want as long as it's black.... well you can have any Macbook you want in any color you want but you'll need new proprietary adapters because we can only fit 1 USB-C port. Look at the shell of what HP once was, DEC is gone, Sun has been folded into Oracle. What happened to the "you're giving everyone back 5 seconds of their lives if you can make boot time 5 seconds faster" mentality?

I am a little bit frustrated had to work with a MacPro MacOS X 10.11.4 for 8 hours and every 5-7 minutes the mouse pointer disappeared that I had to restart the application ( OsirixMD ) - such a sh..ty product, it is a shame what they made out of the Mac

REAAAAALY?

1 crash since windows 10.
1 crash at least every other week with El Cap.

So tired of this....

EXACTLY. I haven't had a single Windows 10 crash aside from stress testing unstable overclocks.

Though I can't say the same for El Capitan, even on my unofficial hardware it seems solid as a rock, even when overclocked.

This is happening to me almost every other day, at least once a week ... Good to know i'm not the only one ... Get it sorted out Apple! (MacBook Pro 13", Early 2015)

I have the latest 27 retina iMac with 4.0 i7 and M395X. Prior to 10.11.4 no issues at all, ran great. After installing 10.11.4 I have had sudden random reboots occasionally (usually when the machine is unattended) and a few freezes followed by a reboot. The only event in the logs related to the random reboot is "previous shutdown cause: -128" and no one seems to know what exactly what that means. A couple of threads on Apple's support forums about this issue as well.

What I'm tired of is the lack of quality control/testing these days, period! Both Microsoft and Apple are guilty.

I've had no crash issues with El Cap over here, but I'm also not using a 13" Macbook Pro retina, so can't comment on this particular issue. I can tell you that on a 2015 Macbook retina, though, I've had problems pretty much weekly where the bluetooth suddenly dies out in the middle of using the machine. My bluetooth keyboard and mouse stop responding and my bluetooth LG headset disconnects. Only thing I can do to make it recover is a reboot.

I also have a new Surface Pro 4 and it has graphics corruption problems, randomly, while using web browsers - even with Microsoft's latest firmware and driver updates. And at least up until this latest (April, 2016) round of patches, it's had issues being unable to wake properly from sleep mode. It also makes you log off and back on again to get font scaling to readjust to the right settings when you dock and undock it from external displays using different resolutions than the built-in LCD.

All of this stuff is just, generally, a poor user experience despite paying a lot of money for the products.

It is happening to me frequently in a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013). Usually when using Autocad LT 2016, it crashes and then every app crashes.
