Owww dear. Yes, it's the responsibility of the user to backup and save thier data, but since the user cannot predict when a crash will happen, they cannot proactively save work....
and it's not about saving, it's about productivity loss, of having to go back, context switch, and redo the work, not knowing when the next crash happens, even if you set it to auto save every 1 minute, it's annoying.
Hardware is not at fault, software is. And it's not good enough for it to crash and the user blame themselves. That attitude is what resulted in Microsoft producing crap OS for years, users complained , and it's got a quality product now.
Apple users need to complain, and make it loud, so apple hears it's not good enough.
I am running the same hardware/software combination without any lock ups. I quess I need a definition of the term 'widespread". Does that mean 51%?Same combination of Mac and OS X but not a single freeze so far.
Anecdotal. Never experienced a crash on El Cap.
Only way to get Apple`s attention is to vote with your $$$$ as that`s all Apple cares about these days. Given Apple is down 40% on Mac sales over the last quarter they may feel motivated to do something, equally no doubt the Mac & OS X will be far from the top of the list. I just expect "thiner & lighter" another bug ridden release of OS X, colour options all wrapped up in more hyperbole. superlatives & hubris than you can possibly stomach....
Q-4
It doesn't make sense if taken too literally, but it's still true. The evidence in software quality coming out of Apple would suggest that they've downsized/downgraded the OS teams in order to spend that headcount budget on the car teams and people working on cosmetic nonsense.I assume you are being facetious but your comment makes little sense. Suggesting the team that are potentially working on car R&D should be fixing an OSX bug is equivalent to reassigning the cleaning team at 1 Infinite Loop to fix this bug.
Are you serious? You replace MLB's because of system freezes as a precaution? A bit extreme don't you think? I see this trend a lot with Apple people. Instead of basic troubleshooting, lets format/replace all the things instead of waiting a few days or look into a software issue.
Blows my ****ing mind when I read stuff like that. That's just excessive.

That's what I did - I abandoned the Mac, because Mac abandoned me. I have a nice Tower PC that is built the way I want it with the GPUs I need for my development work, and video editing -- and a Surface Book for mobile tasks. Don't get me wrong, the Surface Book has its problems (mostly sleep related), but what is shocking to me is how good the PC has gotten in the past few years. It has become (for me) a viable alternative to Mac, which I would have been shocked to believe could have come from my mouth a few years ago.

Best OS X to date. Been a user since 10.4.8Neither have I.
Don't, however, mistake that as a defense of El Capitan. I think it's amongst the worst releases of OS X Apple has ever put out. It may not crash on me, but I have a laundry list of complaints that Apple doesn't appear to be interested in addressing, their lousy, slow, buggy-as-hell SMB implementation being at the top of the list.
A large number of MacBook Pro owners running OS X El Capitan are reporting widespread system freezes since installing the 10.11.4 update to Apple's Mac OS.
Hundreds of MacRumors forum members have been posting to a dedicated thread to discuss the issue, which spans 20 pages at the time of writing. The problem appears to be concentrated on 13-inch Retina MacBook Pros (Early 2015) running 10.11.4. Users report that their system becomes totally unresponsive at seemingly random times, with no way to regain access to their Mac other than to force a hard reboot.

The issue was initially reported by MacRumors forum member Antonnn on March 25, four days after Apple released what is the third update to the Mac OS. In Antonnn's case, the freezes have been occurring "about once a week", first when browsing in Safari, but then also during the use of other Mac apps, including Adobe Photoshop and several third-party browsers. The freeze seems to affect not only the screen and mouse cursor but also the Mac's Force Touch trackpad, which completely loses feedback.
Many other users have since reported similar freezes after updating to 10.11.4, with some 15-inch MacBook Pro (Mid 2015) owners also experiencing issues. One potential cause has been identified from crash logs as a system framework or an Intel Graphics driver bug. The issue is also being reported after installing Safari Technology Preview Version 1 and OS X 10.11.5 Public Beta 1.

Apple Support is apparently aware of the issue but have so far offered no concrete solution. Meanwhile, some users have resorted to downgrading their system to 10.11.3 by restoring from a Time Machine backup or performing a clean install.
We'll update this post throughout the day as we learn more.

thank your for trying to help me but I don't install adobe software on "production systems" of that kindIf you have Adobe Flash Player installed, try disable hardware support that it uses .

Unlike Microsoft, Apple has to support a fairly limited range of devices (and those all designed by itself) and yet it still fails to make sure that the OS works properly. Is it too much to hope, now iPhone sales are falling, that Apple will finally put a bit of effort into the Mac? After about 25 years as a Mac-user, I am becoming a little disillusioned. We have an emasculated Mac Mini, a Mac Pro in the shape of a wastepaper bin and iMacs which sacrifice speed and expandability to thinness.Thank god windows users don't make videos of windows crashes, youtube would collapse.
I thought it would be helpful to say the issue is fixed in the next update. Maybe Apple will accelerate it's release along with iOS 9.3.2
