Ok if anyone reading this is suffering all this technical anxiety, and about to embark on changing profiles etc I would strongly recommend doing yourself a favor and what I did and take your laptop to your Apple store to directly compare them yourself.

We know that there are technically measurable differences, but I literally couldn't see any difference between the 3 panels on viewing them. Some here have said the same. Then others say the observable differences are stark and then proceed to go into technicalities.

Or, import a profile and try it. With one click of a mouse, you can always change back.

Yes, is only this one available for the 11"? Is it good? :O
Thanks

Take a look through this thread. I haven't seen this screen, so I can't comment personally. Some say it looks the worst out of the box, and can really benefit from a proper profile.

Honestly if it doesn't bug you, don't worry. If you really want to get a proper screen get a calibration tool (spyder4, etc) and give that a go. The profiles linked can help, however every display is different.

Tried AnandTech's color profile. Does anyone else notice when scrolling on a webpage with a white background and black text, the text looks green? So far I like the MacRumors Custom, although it is a little darker.

The Saga Continues

So I've had a long and winding road with these MBA displays. I originally purchased an MBA from Amazon which had a Samsung display. It was great but I decided to return it to instead order a custom 8GB/i7 MBA direct from Apple. The custom built MBA had an LG display. I immediately noticed the difference in display quality but was content with the color profiles changes via osxdaily.

After a few days of use I noticed the new MBA with LG display had a few bright cones of light coming from the bottom of the screen. It created a very distracting discoloration of light, surprisingly most notable on white screens (ie webpages). I tried to literally look past the issue but it continued to catch my eye.

In the end I decided to take it to the Apple Store for repair. I didn't want to return the model because I didn't want to go up to 2 weeks waiting for a replacement MBA. They saw the issue and decided to replace the screen. I just picked up the repaired MBA and was pleased to find that its a Samsung display.

If it wasn't for the defect I would say the LG display is fine, but when you view them side by side, in my opinion, the Samsung display is noticeably better.

Go figure. A few hours after getting my MBA back from repair I noticed my WiFi and bluetooth were terrible. Went back to the Apple Store and it appears the antenna connectors were soldered poorly. Waiting on yet another clamshell part including display. Ugh, and this screen was so perfect.

I caved in and bought a DataColor Pro and I'm very pleased with the results. I tried a bunch of different profiles from different people including Anandtech and was amazed at how much better an actual calibration was.

Just my two cents for people who received a LG display are disappointed with the results.

Hear what you're saying. But.....would you mind posting your calibration anyway?;)

What macchiato2009 says is an after the fact. It seems this thread has brought some to the conclusion that it is not as much the panel maker, but rather that the calibration profiles shipping with the airs is more suited to the Samsung. So assuming we can get that idea to stand out more, we may get people to stop complaining. In other words, I highly doubt people are complaining because of bad stock color profiles as macchiato2009 seems to state.

Hi Hichisky, so which profile have you ended up using. I tried your Spyder4express profile and found it to be better than the original. I may go to a store today to compare to other panels...

Thanks for this. Definitely the best profile posted.

I'm glad to be able to help :) . It dramatically improved my display and I think that I'm going to be a calibration guy from now on. Very, very impressed by how much the Spyder4Pro improved my display.

After all this talk I'm definitely picking one up after i move. The spyder 4 pro so I can do my dual monitor setup.

Please find attached the calibration profile from my i1 xrite for my 11" AUO panel.

Cheers, S.

You need to follow the directions from the article on the first page of this thread.

I had no trouble with the Macrumors and Anadtech profiles - both downloaded with .icc extensions. This one doesn't, and manually appending it doesn't work. Apologies if I am being a dumbass.

I had to add it manually and it did work for me :S
