I think I have a Samsung display on my MBA. When I followed the terminal command someone had mentioned previously, it returned "LSN".

Does anyone have a color profile for the Samsung screens?

MBA 11.6 1.7/8/256 ordered on Aug 8th, built on Aug 10th
LTH116AT01A04 (Samsung)
Left 1/4 is slightly darker, but overall ok I'd say.

So samsung is the favorite..

When purchasing from best buy how can I be sure to get a Samsung screen?

Should I let the employees check in store?

You have to open the box, turn it on and execute a command to be sure. If the employee will let you do that, then go for it if the manufacturer of the screen is important to you.

Received my 13" CTO Air (i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) today. Shipped on the 9th Aug.

Came with a Samsung Panel and SSD.

My color profile

Hey gang, I've got a Samsung display and I just used ColorSync to make myself a calibrated profile. I prefer a cooler screen, so it might be too blue for some, but I thought someone might be able to make use of it. Cheers!

LTH133BT01A03. This is Samsung, I believe, correct? If so, WOO! Not that I would return it, but I decided to check for some G-d forsaken obsessive fanboy reason.

I have a LG screen.....on my 2012 MBA 13".

I was completely happy with my screen until I read this thread.

Then I remembered something...... there will always be something better, brighter, bigger (That's what she said).. to worry about.

...and now I'm back to being happy with my computer display again.

A few more days with the AUO (Acer) B116XW05 V6 has me planning to return the MBA tomorrow.

Contrast does not seem good enough. Thin typefaces are hard to read.

It has a washed out look and very poor viewing angles.

Hi everyone, I was wondering if you could help me. I got a new Macbook Air today and I'm looking for a specific color profile that I used on my previous one . It's called D65L.

I actually got it from this forum, but it appears the link is down now.

Surely someone has it here right?

Thanks so much for the help guys.

We just received two new MBA's at the office today. Both had LG displays, and are very good right out of the box even before we calibrated them. A very nice surprise compared to the ones we got when 2012's were released.

I've gotten the LG twice. On my 13" ultimate 2011, and on my 13" ultimate 2012.

And at first it does seem a bit washed out.

Then I went and downloaded the macrumors profile and it looks so much better.

WE ARE NOT EDITING AVATAR 2 ON THIS THING, so I would suggest keep your screen, look for a profile that suits you, and that is it. Problem solved. Could not be happier. (I'm very OCD when it comes to screens and movies and HD and crappyness)

I ordered a 13" (i7/8GB RAM/256GB SSD) and got an LG screen. Everything looked so light and when I compared it with my girlfriend's 2011 11" (she had the Samsung display) her's was much better. So I returned mine and ordered another.

It came today and it had the Samsung panel! :D:D It looks so much better. I'm glad I didn't settle. (We paid all this money and you just going to accept a screen you don't like?)

Yeah, they look a little better, but really IMHO, it's not enough to exchange.
I mean, it's not like your going to say to yourself: " Gosh this screen is crap, I wish I had a Samsung". I've used about 10 MBAs and it doesn't make any difference.

But, people will do what they do. Whatever. Perhaps, the fact that the hunt continues is fun :D

Terrible advice. Never settle. I would rather see a corporation go broke than see its patrons settle for less than they paid for.

My Air has the LG screen and the Toshiba SSD...

and it blows my Late 2011 13" MacBook Pro out of the water in screen brightness, speed, and lightness. No complaints here.

I own both a 2010 Air with LG display, and a 2012 Air with Samsung display. I'm not quite sure the 2010 LG display is the same one as used in the 2012 version, but I believe it is. Just for fun, I tried setting up the computers next to eachother and looked at some pictures / webpages and similar. Both computers were at default color profile and and max brightness.

Overall, it seems as if the LG display is a bit brighter but with more "washed out" color. The black is not quite as black as with the samsung, and the samsung has a bit "deeper" colors. Although, it's not a major difference if you ask me. Noticeable when viewed side-by-side, but nothing I think about when using them alone. I tried taking some pictures, but as I only had my phone available the quality is less than good :) But here they are if anyone is interested. Samsung is on the left, LG on the right.

You guys are all making a huge deal about this.

The LG and Samsung panels both have their advantages and disadvantages.

LG:
+better viewing angles
+brighter

Samsung:
+better black levels
+higher saturation with default color profile

FWIW I have the LG panel. It looked washed out at first but after I applied the MR Display Profile it looks great. The difference between the two is very minor once you have the correct color profile. The LG display simply does not work as well with the default color profile as the Samsung display making it seem inferior out of the box.

i got my new 11" MBA today and its got an AUO Screen.

It is super white and non yellowish, has great Colors and a super high contrast (compared it with my iPhone 4 Screen with has an 800-1000:1 Contrast Ratio and its practically identical.

For an TN-Display it looks really great, only "problem" is some dithering in dark grey-Blacks.

Can you with LG and Samsung-Panels confirm that by looking at the following Graphic? :

Thanks !!
