Just found out I have a samsung panel phew ^^
And apparently all 2012's Airs got a Toshiba SSD, unlike the last years version.

A good number of people got samsung ssds, not toshiba. Mostly the 256 and 512 options though from what I gather.

Color LCD

I have this, which i honestly can't recognize to be neither Samsung nor LG, anyone can enlighten me ? Thanks!

P.s. It has a slight marked blue tint, but i'm ok with it.

Sorry if I sound uneducated, but is it safe to say that the 11" always gets the LG while 13" can get either LG or Samsung? Or do they have the Samsung in the 11" as well?

Hi Joey, I have a mid 2012 11". It is a BTO system, i7/8gb/128. It came with the samsung screen. So yes it is possible to get a sammy screen on the 11". Of course the usual panel lottery applies.

Is it possible that some of the MBA with LG screen also have pixelated fonts?

I am not sure if I am developing a paranoia but I think the screen of my previous MBA was sharper, it was a LG screen as well.

I have 2012 MBA 13/i7/8/256 - HDD is by Samsung and screen panel is by LG. Blacks were definitely off and I found that reading text for longer period of time was an issue. I used Anandtech color profile and it has dramatically improved the quality. I'm starting to ask all my friends about hardware color calibration tool that I can use. I think it will be very beneficial to do proper calibration individually.

I ordered an 11" MBA recently. It came with the LG screen. The LG screen made my eyes ache. I had to return it.

Some people say they are happy with the LG display and it works just fine for them. Not for me. With the options I selected, the Air cost $1700 dollars (after tax). For that amount of money I want the screen to look good. Certainly not make my eyes ache.

Looking side by side, in the store, at the Samsung vs the LG, there is a HUGE difference.

While talking with a tech at the store, he said that officially the screen difference is something the store employees do not know about. Unofficially they are kinda told not to talk about it.

If the Macbook Air could be ordered with a Samsung screen (and Samsung SSD) it would be perfect.

At least Apple has great support.

You can never have too many posts with the same comments. How else would we get to over 600 posts in a thread?

Did it ship with ML? Did you try a profile? On Mountain Lion the default profile on the LG screen looks very good. I have a samsung and an LG and when I upgraded to ML I no longer need the color profile.

LG MBA 13" 2012

I'm also on the MBA 13" 2012 with the LG panel. Even with the vastly better default color profile in Mountain Lion, this one is still an improvement. I'm assuming you're on ML too?

Did you use any calibration equipment?

Cheers!

Hello, i tried to find the spyder4 calibration tool but it's very hard to find in my country so...

i need help, for anyone with LTH133BT01A03 (samsung) panel and already calibrate your screen to maximum for print and web work, please kindly post your screen color profile :) Thank You :D

I am on ML and used the built in calibrator. Some eye strain was suffered but it was worth it since I got much better results versus my spider 3 calibrator.

I did try a different profile. The picture was still grainy. And still irritated my eyes a little.

I just got my display replaced, had a samsung before but now it says B116XW05 V6. Anyone else have this display? It looks slightly more washed out than before. Any calibration I need to do?

NM, I found out it was AU, which apparently provides the display panels for a ton of companies, including samsung and lg! I'm actually liking this display better, even though its a little washed out, its more evenly lit, and everything seems a little crisper.

My wife and i both got airs a couple weeks ago. When i was installing ML on her air, i noticed it looked bettet than mine. I checked the screens, hers samsung, mine LG. when side by side there is a difference, if they werent side by side i wont have known. Anyway, took it back to Best Buy and they thought i was crazy. Told them the story, exchanged for a new one, booted it up in store & could instantly tell. Checked & was samsung. The worker took my other one and compared the 2. It was so noticeable he even had 4 other wirkers look at it. The color profiles helped on the LG, but the samsung is better, especially for the price.

I noticed that the colors if my LG screen are not very accurate., but since color accuracy is not an issue for me, its fine.

Otherwise would be a serious problem.
