I find – and people are also reporting – the standard ICC profile which comes with Mountain Lion a lot better with the LG display. It think the OS is now smart enough to activate an ICC profile based on which screen panel it recognizes.

I noticed this immediately...with ML i don't even need a color profile.

+1 I upgraded on the same day it turned up and did wonder what the fuss was about as my LG 11" screen looks absolutely fine. I might not even bother digging out my Spyder 3...

Versus means competition, which one is better, samsung or LG... Not which one you have, otherwise, it would be a POLL, should being answered in that specific field!

Other users have also posted in this thread getting a Samsung LCD and SSD on there Macbook Air. So whats your point? Not happy with your LG screen?

+2, that is definitely the case.

I was going to start a thread on this. I was surprised to notice the differences with mountain lion upgrade on the 2012 11 air LG panel.

I can tell cause I have previously owned the 2011 samsung panel 11 macbook air.

got my MBA 13" i5 256gb today. just checked and I have LG Display. I don't mind it to be honest, but then again I don't have experience with the Samsung. I tried Anandtech's color profile, but I didn't like it so reverted back to the standard one

Oh and I have Samsung SSD.

I'll definitely be keeping this :D

Maybe someone with the ml install and lg display can share the wealth by uploading that file.
I think it changes the Samsung profile too because there was a moment in the install where everything got noticeably warmer for me.

when i get home, if no one has done it, I will.

I had to create the ColorSync and Profiles folders on a clean Mountain Lion install. But really no need, as the default profile is great for my LG screen.

exactly, the default profile for the LG screens on ML is better than any profile on Lion

Can someone who still uses Lion post the default ICC profile? It would be fun to see the true difference between the default color profile in Lion contra Mountain Lion for the LG panel.

Just checked my screen:

Starts with LSN, which means I have a Samsung screen!

Unfortunately, I just checked my SSD and I have the Toshiba. :(

I value things like no dead/stuck pixels/backlight bleed more than the quality of the panel.. unless it's a massive huge variance.. In the case of the LG vs. Samsung in the 13" it's different yes, but it's not a deal breaker.. I have a flawless looking LG screen and while it's contrast may not be as deep as the Samsung, at least it's perfect in every way. Would rather keep an already good screen with no issues than exchange hoping for a Samsung screen and end up with some pixel issues.. get my drift?

I upgraded to ML on my 2012 air with an LG display and the profile you linked looks better than the default one I had here. Did you do a clean install? I've got the 11-inch air.

No, I just upgraded L-to-ML in the usual way, and that's the new improved default profile that suddenly appeared.

I don't think anybody is telling you to exchange the screen, but I agree with you.

I just thought the purpose of this thread was to post what you had.

Sorry if I sound uneducated, but is it safe to say that the 11" always gets the LG while 13" can get either LG or Samsung? Or do they have the Samsung in the 11" as well?

You ordered your's on the 31st right? Was it a 13" BTO model?

I ordered on July 27. It shipped on July 31. Received it yesterday Aug 6. Yes it was BTO. 13"/8GB/128SSD. And it came with ML pre-installed. It was one of the first off the line to have Mountain Lion.

Just found out I have a samsung panel phew ^^
And apparently all 2012's Airs got a Toshiba SSD, unlike the last years version.

Thank you. This is the best one yet for my 2012 13" LG

I had a Samsung on my 2012 11" that was a BTO from the Apple Store online. I returned it for various reasons.

My 2012 13" has an LG and was picked up from an Apple Store retail.
