Here are more pictures. This set was taken in a darker setting and doesn't really capture the differences in the screens very well.

The LG is on the right this time. Samsung on the Left. I chose a couple of the more popular LG color profiles people have posted here on macrumors. I personally like the 6500k Profile the best. The Samsung has the Default profile on the entire time.

If someone purchased from a retailer like B&H, I'm assuming you can't return it to an Apple Store.
Even if the other retailers will swap it for you, you'll still have a chance to receive another LG screen. I guess that's the price you pay for getting it cheaper from another retailer. Or is there another way that I'm missing?

11"/2.0/8/256 here - got both SSD and screen from Samsung :)

Many people have stated the Samsung panel look noticeably better, but what about the SSD? Did anyone actually run some tests on that to determine which one is better?

Just got back from the apple store and all three base 13" 128/4 had Samsung panels. I guess they want to display the better screen :) here's hoping that my BTO will arrive with the Samsung.

Look for the "Samsung or Toshiba" thread from last week. The Samsung is slightly faster in benchmarks, but for everyday use the difference to the user is negligible/non-existent.

I have the 13" with a Samsung display and a Toshiba SSD.

I read that they was a slight difference between the Samsung and Toshiba SSD, however, I don't know if there is any in the 2012 models.

My MBA performs very well except for the system freezes/crashes and 2 kernel panics from using chrome. I don't know if that is a hardware or software issue but is it worth returning and hoping to get a samsung ssd?

Is urs a BTO? Did u upgrade the RAM?

----------

my 13'' is also LG

Is this a BTO model? Any upgrades?

13/i5/4/128 has a Samsung LCD and Toshiba SSD. No issues thus far. In case you are wondering, I bought in person at the Apple Store.

It seems like the 13" is really mixed. I have been reading about people with 8gb of RAM getting Samsung or LG and base models mostly with Samsung ... Really hope mine is a Samsung.

What does the AUO panel start with when you type the command into terminal?

B116XW05 V6

Seems to be incredibly rare! Still not sure how it compares with LG or Samsung panels and I don't know if the calibration profiles here work well with it.

Havin this one as well. My MBAarrived today and tonight I fly to Australia --> no time for calibrating but from a first glance the colors look more vivid than my 2011 LG display.

Cheers, S.

my 2012 13" 8/256 is a LG display. looks about the same as my 2010 11" 4/128, but that was a LG display too.

not having owned a samsung model, can't say i'm missing out. quality seems quite good and even better with calibration. don't plan to return it.

Excellent news, hope to hear more anecdotes on the AUO panels similar to yours!

I just received my 13"/8 GB/128 GB yesterday and it has the LG screen and the Toshiba SSD. I don't care that its not the Samsung, it still looks fantastic!

Last year they had the same issue Samsung > LG. And now its the same thing again.... I hope next time it will be Retina Screen on the MBA and THAT will stop these kind of thread! C'on apple what are you waiting for? :D
