It is a much better computer than the Macbook or Macbook Pro without Touchbar, so I guess they figured they couldn't price it below either

I will likely get this maxed out and keep it for five or six years

Still curios if there are any upgrade options. I cant imagine Intel designing their Amber Lake Chips to support 2133Mhz Ram frequency only for apple.

The MBA 2018 is like a first model, expect more processor options in a year...

I don't know, if they are using a 5W CPU now (and they would likely have made the cooling solution for that 5W), I doubt you will see 15W CPU's in this body in the future.

This is practically the 13" MacBook.

Will be hard to justify buying this vs the new HP x360 (Whiskeylake), Lenovo S730, Zenbook 13/S etc..

Radeon Pro Vega Graphics Coming to MacBook Pro Next Month
Apple also today announced new MacBook Pro graphics options that will bring powerful Radeon Pro Vega graphics to MacBook Pro for the first time. These new graphics options deliver up to 60 percent faster graphics performance for the most demanding video editing, 3D design and rendering workloads.1

$999 prob would have sprung but I have to say$1199 is too much for a dual core y processor. I bought an asus with a quad core i5 8250 for $450.

I’ll just spend that money to stick 16gb, and an ssd into that

I well remember the 'Warming Up for the All-New 2013 (and then, 2014) Redesigned MacBook Air' thread that spanned 600+ posts. Several times, I pointed out that Apple was unlikely to ever redesign the MBA, and several times I was effectively shouted down.

I don't think there will be any 'new' MBAs. I said the same thing back in 2013 and 2014, but no one wanted to listen then, either. Generally speaking, you can't "really deliver" with 10-year-old tech. If you doubt that, try using an overhead projector at your next meeting and see how you 'wow' the group.

I'm officially eating this post, and ordering a new MBA as soon as the store reopens.

Well.... retina is cool. But 128GB and dual-core for $1200 is really low end at that price.

This'll probably be the Mac for me in the future... but in a couple years when they put in better CPUs and Macs have a base ssd storage of 256GB.

Perhaps this was built in anticipation of putting in an Apple ARM cpu...

It's a pretty good size though.... And look how generous apple is... 2 ports!

I have to say the same. For $1,200 I’d expect more.

Especially when the rumor was $800-1,000. I don’t care about Touch ID. Would have preferred retina and a processor bump. This is my 2013 MacBook Air + retina + new processor.

5 years later + still 128gb hd and 8gb of ram.

Interesting about the Vega, might be something I end up considering (even though it is larger than I wanted).

Random thought, wonder if they'll upgrade the nTB to 15w Whiskey Lake and gen 3 keyboard - would be a good alternative to 5W Air? Or discontinue it.

Well one of those is going to be for power, so you are basically back to the original Air's solitary USB. Actually I'm perfectly fine with this. The new keyboard, not so much.

Meanwhile, Apple just released an 8-core iPad. It's pretty amazing how much more Apple cares about iPad hardware than it does Macbook hardware

I was about to say that at this point I think you’d really be foolish to pay $1199 for a base air, your truly better off getting the new 12.9 iPad Pro it’s really a computer now

It's a good replacement for the 12" MacBook (3rd gen keyboard, TouchID, better Facetime camera), but it is no true Air/nTB replacement.

New iPad is crazy good though!
