Does the new air two usb c ports support thunderbolt 3? Because I know the 12 inch MacBook usb c port does not.

I was about to say that at this point I think you’d really be foolish to pay $1199 for a base air, your truly better off getting the new 12.9 iPad Pro it’s really a computer now

But no Time Machine backup, much MacOS stuff doesn't work on iOS, and and...

Even though they call it Pro, the iPad won't replace until they make a MacOS Pad.

The problem is many people (including me) need to and want to use a laptop for certain task (heavy excel work, storing and cataloging photos, whatever). The problem is Apple's laptops are becoming less and less of a value for that. The iPhone and Ipads are excellent, but it may make sense to get a good Windows laptop instead of a Macbook nowadays

Well, this will at least push the MBA 2015 price down. 1200$ for a tablet tier CPU, 128GB and an unreliable keyboard is far too much.

They didn't. It's still $999 on the website.

Apple hates poor people. I guess we'll still see this glowing-logo MBA in college campuses around the world for MANY years to come...

Ok it's definitely the Amber Lake i5-8265U 1.3GHz 3.9GHz 5W 2/4 4MB LPDDR3 2133MHz

Apple site states:

1.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz, with 4MB L3 cache

Also has the Intel UHD Graphics 617???

Which CPU is this?

1200$ + dual core + butterfly keyboard...
Well, thanks, but I'm skipping this one out.

On the other hand, mac mini looks really promising :)

I mean in other retailers. I can imagine heavy discounts on Black Friday.

It is using the i5-8200Y processor not the U series.

Nope, that CPU has 1866mhz RAM limit and an UHD Graphics 615 iGPU. The clock speeds are also different to what is stated on Apples site:

1.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz, with 4MB L3 cache
2133mhz LPDDR3 RAM
Intel HD 617

Tbh, I don't know which chip this is...

It's probably the slightly updated version of the i5-8200Y with higher turbo/faster igpu. Disappointed it's not the U series.

Its an Apple specific AmberLake processor:

[doublepost=1540914689][/doublepost]Not sure what to do. Ive sent back two of the MBP because of the throttling issue.

This Amber Lake processor is on paper just a tiny bit better than my old 13inch MBP with 4558U processor, although its already 5 years old. Whiskey Lake would have been a noticeable upgrade...

Ok so Ive just checked the Geekbench scores for my 5 year old i7-4558U vs last years Kaby-Lake i5-7Y54, which is as close as you can get to the new Apple specific Amber lake processor, although the new generation will have a slightly increased performance.

The new processor performs just as good as my 5 year old 22nm processor....

After the disappointment with the new MBP wich is literally unusable due to it's overheating issues, this MacBook Air update was highly anticipated but seems like a disappointment again.

Next hope would be the update of the 13inch MBP non-touchbar with Whiskey-Lake.

It's recycled Aluminium too, yet still so expensive compared to the 13" rMBP relatively speaking.

I thought they'd kill the base MBP (my 2017 nTB is crying int he corner).

This thing is made out of used 7Up cans (cheaper!) use $299 Dell processors (cheaper!) yet it's expensive as hell.

Maybe I'm just poor.
