Exactly. There is no reason these should be priced at what they are for only a dual core machine... Now if they sold it for $999 with 16GB of ram and 512GB SSD, that would be ok.
Honestly, the fact that it runs macOS is a huge benefit for me which outweighs the price for RAM and storage. I'm a big fan of the refurbs though, so take that for what it is worth.

why is the battery life on the entry level pro better than the mid to high end pro? Not sure what I am missing... AND is the new Air the same size or footprint as the new MacBook Pro? I ask because last night at the apple store they had the new cases out which were slightly larger than the MacBook Pro 13" cases.......a little odd... thanks!

I tried the new mba today. It looked flimsy to me. Like an overblown 12" MacBook. Same crappy keys. Not selling my 2017 mba anytime soon. Rather, continuing to investigate linux.
It's up to you, but the screen is just 100x better on the new Air

Build quality on the new Air is far superior to the 2009-2017 Air. And that dreadful screen... let’s not even go there. The keyboard is better on the older Air, so I’ll give you that.

Crikey, what a dilemma... Quite tempted to sell my 2017 MBA and grab the 2019 MBA and free headphones (to sell) before I lose my education discount in a month or two. But is the (slight) upgrade and price drop worth it?!

I will be getting mine next week. So stoked. Ordered 16gb/1tb model in silver.

Linux with a thinkpad makes an awesome combination as long as you don't need proprietary apps like powerpoint. Personally, I won't be buying a new Macbook until they release the new scissor key models, and I won't buy a new macbook air without a quadcore.

Did the brightness of the screen also change with the “true tone” upgrade. I notice they quote the brightness for the pro 13” 500 nits in the spec page but not for the Air (checked yesterday)

I guess they needed to add this (TT) to “discontinue” the 12” macbook, but did they match the brightness to be able to claim its as a full replacement addressing the only one USB C and the 8GB limit
I compared the 500 nits pro to the 400 nits air @ best buy and the different is substantial in my opinion. 400 nits is fine I suppose, but that 25% increase in brightness is so much more comfortable on the eyes.

I'm a little curious about the difference in portability for the two; does the small weight difference and slight thicker macbook pro make it noticeably less portable? I've got a late Macbook Pro 2016 at home, but want to buy something for traveling purposes and light home use mainly; VLC, flix, browsing, etc. Seems to me there's a divided opinion on which is a "better purchase".

I handled both the MBA and MBP and the air is noticeably lighter and definitely thinner in the front specifically. If every ounce counts, the air seems like a better option. If you fly often the air might be a better choice simply because every little bit of space is important these days.

I agree, the airplane table ain't exactly the biggest. But then, from what I read you get an weaker processer, less battery life and a less bright and colorful screen, is really the thinness/weight a good enough argument to choose the Air over the Pro? One thing I will give the air though, is the lack of the dreadful touch strip!

that touch strip is an abomination that nobody was asking for or had a need for. I'm going for the pro for the screen alone.

I agree, it's horrible! I am leaning on the same decision as yourself as it is gonna be used a lot for view TV-shows and movies.

I watched a few reviews yesterday (who knows how official) that had all the current laptops in a side by side test, and the new 13" won...
it weird I went back to find it but cant seem to find it... its the reviewer who always does his reviews on his back balcony in a woodsy setting I know.. I will look some more...
