I don't really understand why the pro is more expensive and needs a fan. Higher frequency?

They don’t mention clock speeds though. I imagine since the pro is actively cooled it is clocked higher and can maintain higher clock speeds under sustained load so it will provide better performance
Exactly. Nothing in this MR article proves to me that they are the same SoC. They are two SoCs named the same. The rest will have to wait for teardowns or other news releases.

Im wondering the same thing. Display in pro is slightly nicer but unsure if thats worth the price hike
Possibly, The Pro has better battery life, because of bigger batteries and higher weight. And don’t forget the fans on the Pro will allow the M1 to perform better, at higher frequencies than the Air

i think next year we will see a whole new design
14.1 microled
M2

24hour battery life

If I had to I would go with the Air. I'm not sure why the PRO needs a fan and the Air doesn't? I have a mini and was looking at that. I don't like the fact the RAM is not upgradeable again except by Apple when you first buy. What is up with that?

Seems likely. When people refer to Intel processors these days, they typically just use the general name like Ice Lake or Coffee Lake etc. That doesn't mean that all the chips using that general name run at the same clock speeds.

THIS IS A JOKE!!
pure, undenaible JOKE 🤣🤣LOL 😂

only two ports on pro?? So we just buy more eco-friendly adapters?? or is it just another "lower-end" Pro with touch bar so boomers can show off in starbucks..??

Yeah this still blows my mind years and years later with everything getting better, they STILL leave the ****** 720p camera in these laptops. Calling a MacBook "Pro" with a 720p FT camera is just BS. I know it's because the screen is so thin but damn, figure it out already.

Simple. The fan provides better cooling, the better cooling allows for more sustained CPU usage / less throttling down under load.

Air is aimed for folks with brief & bursty workoads.

Pro is aimed for folks with workloads which are sustained.

The performance and battery life will likely make the prices extremely competitive.

But i'll wait for a redesign.

I'll be curious to know how much the performance on the pro is improved with the active cooling. I doubt it will make much difference in regular use and only be noticeable on sustained intensive tasks like encoding videos or playing games. One problem I'm seeing on the apple site is there is no really good way to compare the air vs the pro. For instance, are the displays the same? The pro page talks about brightness, the air page doesn't.

$300 buys you a fan to prevent thermal throttling.

I think were so used to Intel being so hot that this is the only thing we can think of. These are two different machines with two different purposes. The Air focusing on lower end tasks, the Pro .. obviously on higher end.

It's the same concept as the old model except we're not worrying about Ghz ratings, etc. The idea that we can just abandon that mindset is really nice. I think this is a good model to move forward with, less to be concerned about.
