Not gonna happen. More size = more money, and Apple is always going to bundle more size with more performance for a bigger price tag. Period.

Large and cheap aren't happening. Get used to it.
It's Apple, no one expects cheap. I'd expect it to start at $1999.

The MacBook is gonna be their justification to increase the new air price to like $1299-$1399.
sounds likely .

given the m2 mbp will theorically have mini led and improved speakers among other things, but only m2 and not m2 pro ... it's likely its price will increase too,by 200$,which leaves a bigger margin for the MBA lol

so MBA/MacBook m2 for 1200$,mbp m2 for 1500 , mbp high end 14" for 2000... everything getting more expensive basically

I have had an M1 air since launch and love it. With that said, I would welcome the color options and would replace it if the M2 can better support 2 4k monitors (natively) and maybe an option for 32gb ram. oh and let me have magsafe again on an Air.

I'm guessing the rumor mill echo chamber is dead wrong on M2 in 2022.

I would also guess there are zero first party sources on these rumors. Just people looking at historical upgrade cycles and adding 1 to M1 and saying it's coming. Pure conjecture.

(P.S. -- Thinking Apple is going to put the next generation chip in the low end Pro machine before the higher end versions, and Osborning their high-margin line is simply stupid. It's like they aren't even trying anymore.)

Agreed.

Pro will get M2 and all the M2 variations.

Everything else in 2023 gets M1+.

The base chip in SoC is not as critical as it was in the x86 world. Enhancements can be added to the architecture while the "M" remains much the same.

I’d like to see them bring back the 12” notebook. Something about that size (12” PowerBook G4 12” MacBook and 11” MacBook Air) that make it an excellent couch surfing device that is far more capable than an iPad could ever dream of.
I am using my 12" MacBook right now. :D I don't think we will ever see the 12" MB again, unfortunately.

When the new Macbook Airs get released. I hope that they have bright punchy colours on the chassis.

As I think these will be more popular with people than the dull colour scheme used on the Ipad Air 5.
I hope you’re right and that they align with the colors of the 24” iMacs. I would really love a silver and white MacBook Air to go along with my silver and white iMac.

A MacBook Air exists to be cheap.
Tell that to the original MacBook Air which started at $1799.
Or the 2018 redesign which was $1199.
The iPad Air has quickly become the mid range iPad, I expect the same to happen with the MacBook lineup

Apple is working on the successor to the M1 chip, expected to be called the M2, and multiple rumors have already suggested that these chips are going to be used in machines that include a refreshed MacBook Air and a new version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

A new report today from 9to5Mac once again reiterates these rumors, with the site claiming that Apple will introduce a MacBook Air and a 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 chip later this year. Notably, 9to5Mac says that Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo's recent prediction that the next-generation MacBook Air will use either the M1 or an updated version of it is incorrect.

As for the 13-inch MacBook Pro, 9to5Mac claims that Apple could drop the "Pro" labeling, referring to the new machine as just "MacBook" as it has done in the past.

We've already heard plenty about the next-generation versions of the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro from sources like Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who has confirmed that the new MacBook Air will see a complete redesign. Gurman has also provided details on the M2 chip, which is expected to feature the same 8-core CPU as the M1, but with 9 and 10-core GPU options.

There is no word on a release date as of yet, but M2 machines are likely to come out in the later months of the year.

I have been waiting forever to see a white MacBook again! so excited. I miss the days when apple product design was heavily influenced by Braun from the 60s and 70s. I really hate the silver and grey so so much. Hope they offer the MacBook pro in white next release.

That is not how chip development works.
The low end, most power efficient, smallest mobile chips go into mass production long before the bigger, more complicated and power-hungry versions.
The M1 came out 11 months before the pro and max, which came out five months before the ultra.
Expect a very similar pattern for M2.
This is how Apple has always done it, the A10 came out in September 2016 and the A10X came out in June 2017.
Also there will absolutely be no M1+, that’s ridiculous.
Apple already said the ultra is the last chip in the M1 family, the MacPro will just have two of them

More inclined to believe Kuo and M1.

He's actually living in Taiwan, you know, where TSMC is. More likely to feel the pulse on silicon news.

Seems like M2 was planned, but something hit a snag, possibly N4 ramp issues.

White aluminum?

I already sold my kidneys for the M1 Ultra Studio, so an other computer is out of the question for 2022.
However I'm so excited for this new macbook airs!
The M2 will bring a bit more power and efficiency to the lineup and the rumoured colourful designs are so lovely.
I'll definitely dream of getting one, once it'll be released.
