My M2 Air made a slight clicking noise when closing it when it was new. It was something that was barely noticeable. I decided not to mess with the bottom plate screws, and after a few months it went away on its own. It may not be the same thing others having the issue reported, but it was similar. It has long since gone away, and no longer occurs. I knew I was under warranty and if it worsened, or I felt that it may affect connections from the base to the display, I would just take it in. But, it disappeared and I cannot reproduce it. For me it seemed almost as if something needed to be broken in, or acclimatized. However, if it is really bothersome or loud, it definitely should be looked at. My machine has been perfect since and hands down the best Mac I’ve ever had.

I don’t have exactly your problem but it seems that it has to do with the bottom casing Got a new MBP 14“ binned max and I‘m pretty happy with this baby. The only thing which is annoying me is that everytime I pick my book up the bottom casing of the book makes a sound when pushing it. It’s only in one area. So I‘d like to ask if this is a normal behavior or how it can be fixed. Please watch the video attached.
Thanks for your answers

Looks normal. It's barley noticeable I've had the same but I ignored it and started to enjoy my Mac.

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro with the M4 Pro chip and I’m facing the exact same issue with the right hinge.

It’s very annoying. I read through all your comments, and many of you had a bad experience with AASP, so I don’t want to go there. Unfortunately, there are no AASPs available in my country either.

I’ve tried several methods to fix it, like gently pushing the lid or pressing from the back, but I still don’t know how to properly fix this.

💯 apple is not good for built quality 😑

i feel for your situation. this happened to me, and it bothered me to no end. if i'd discovered the issue within the return period, i would most definitely have returned for another unit. but the situation did resolve itself. i think what helped was putting it in my backpack with some hefty books, and i think the books applied enough pressure to iron out whatever issue i was going through. hope this helps.

Bumping an older thread here but I thought I'd share my experience related to this.

I bought my MBA M2 8/512 (midnight blue) new in Jan 2023 with AppleCare+ and it has performed beyond expectation and has held up very well. With my 3 years of AppleCare+ expiring in Jan 2026 I gave it a good once over and realized I had a noticeable noise when opening the display; a subtle but present creak seeming to come from the center part of the hinge. I don't know how long this noise has been present; I almost feel like it's made this noise for a long time and I just subconsciously attributed it to being normal. I searched a bit, found this thread and figured I'd better get my noise checked out before my AppleCare+ expired.

I booked a same day appointment at the local Apple Store Genius Bar. The Genius that took care of me seemed to not know of any reported hinge noises. In front of me, he used a small powerful light to inspect my MBA. He looked at the hinge from various angles/perspectives while static and while opening and closing my lid. No debris found. He seemed to inspect the alignment of my MBA at several points, feeling for any misalignments with his fingers. None found.

Then he said he was going to take it out back to the shop and remove some part(s) of the shell to inspect further. 10 minutes later he came back with my MBA and said he took it apart, inspected it (mentioned it was very clean inside) and that the subtle noise is coming from some slight movement of a cable related to the display that passes through the hinge. He said it was in its proper intended routing and that he checked a few other machines they had/use in the back shop and others had similar noises too. Thus my hinge noise was/is deemed normal, no further action. I'm cool with that. I have not used a magnifying glass, but I can't tell they were in MBA. It's still looks as if new. The noise is not better or worse after my Genius Bar visit, it's the same. Since my visit a few days ago I've been trying to pay more attention to the noise and it seems to go away after I've been using my MBA for a bit; my hinge noise is more noticeable when my MBA is "cold".

As a sidetone that was a bonus to me: I was under the impression that here in Canada the option for AppleCare+ was only for the first 3 years from purchase, but the Genius confirmed that I can extend my AppleCare+ coverage beyond the 3 years. I can now see in my System Settings/AppleCare & Warranty section an option on my MBA's to extend my AppleCare Plus coverage. I like having that for peace of mind so I'll be getting that coverage set up again if the cost is not bananas.
