Yes, I lost $260 for 3 months of use, but whatever. It's sold and shipping out tomorrow.

Sold my 11" last week and took a hit on the price.

When I bought it, I planned on keeping my MBP i7 as a main machine and just using the MBA for travel. So, I only bought the basic model.

I stopped using the MBP though and decided I needed more HD space so it seemed a good time to sell so I can get the new model with the spec I want.

Can't stress how happy I was with my 11" MBA. the most satisfying Mac experience I've had I think. Worked like a dream. Just can't wait to get the replacement now!!

nvr ending rumors....why would they need to down the page to update when they can push it with a single click....its not like the support page is like a web store where u need to update the pricing and specs manually

Because sites like this wouldn't exist without rumors.

And for the take on the support communities page, if apple wants to set up certain pages and post dealing with Lion or a new project they could take the page down. With that they may update the UI of the page at this point too, there happens to be reasons why Apple can take down a page.

I've been wondering why the support page is down. Does that mean they are updating the rest of the site (such as the Mac OS X Lion page) as well?

Actually in Missouri, we do refer to midnight as 12 am.

12 pm is known as noon though.

There is a 24 hour clock and a 12 hour clock. In a 12 hour clock you get 12 am and 12 pm. I am curious about the state of the US educational system after reading this conversation.

Here we go again... MBP's don't even have USB 3.0 yet, and you expect USB 3.0 on MBA?

Also intel doesn't support USB 3.0 on Sandy bridge. It won't be until IVY Bridge.

People expect just way too much from one update. Crazy...

Last time MBP got updated, they only added Faster CPU, GPU, HD camera and thunderbolt.

Let's see what MBA gets...

All of these expectations make me feel like this is the last MBA they will ever make.

For example...Isn't usb 3 on the new thinkpad X1 which is Sandy Bridge processors??

Since the Thunderbolt port shares the mini display port....what happens when you plug in a third party external monitor with VGA/DVI/HDMI adapter (not Apple CD) you will loose thunderbolt connectivity and have to resort to usb 2.

Usb 3 is achieved via a discrete pcie controller.

TB is dual channel, one for DP and the other for PCIe so you dont lose TB when connecting DP peripherals.

Enough!!!

Enough with this grumbling about the rumors and timing!

Let's get back to arguing and grumbling about rumored features or lack thereof. :D

It will lack the option for a matte display. These glossy displays drive me crazy...

If the specifications "leaked" are real, I believe Apple is trying to "kill" the Macbook Pro. Think about it: the majority of people don't really need a Macbook Pro. Ok, you can upgrade the RAM and HD and you have a DVD burner... but only few people do actually upgrade hardware, and every day less and less people are using CD's/DVD's. I see my mother, my girlfriend, her mother.. and like 80%/90% of my friends, they don't need a MacBook Pro anymore at all. They can get a Macbook Air without looking back. The "Pro's" will probably prefer the Macbook Pro because of the better performance + upgrades. My point is: super light machines, decent price, excellent performance for "most of the people". I don't see many people wanting an Macbook Pro instead. But I do understand that this market, the Pro, still exist and it is big enough for Apple to continue investing on it, but the future doesn't seem very promising for them neither. Exceptions exist, as usual.. but the Macbook Air is (or it will be) the way to go for most of the "normal" Apple users.

I already have last years maxed out 13" and I'm tempted to get an entry level or maxed out 11" this go around what will that run me I wonder?

Lion is a 64 bit operating system?

After reading the system requirements of Lion, I am under a impression that Lion is a 64 bit operating system and not a 32 bit operating system because Lion requires a Intel dual core 2 or later, am I correct?

I have snow leopard 32 bit running. Would I have any problems upgrading to 64 bit lion and can I upgrade to lion from 32 bit snow leopard or must I do a clean install?

The 13" Rev D supposedly did cannibalize the 13" MacBook Pro during the holiday quarter. There really was no advantage of the Pro over the Air other than the built-in SuperDrive and expandability, and slightly lower price comparably equipped. The February update to the 13" Pro put a lot of space in between the two lines, and I expect that the Pro line will get Ivy Bridge first.

To me, the 13" Air won't necessarily "kill" the Pro as much as it will simply allow Apple to get as much value out of a basic architecture for as long as possible. The winter 13" Pros lead the way for the summer 13" Airs.

I can tell you it's not that great. I went private school, and my wife went public. We laugh at it now,but at first she felt embarrassed, about how much she didn't learn in the public schools that I was like... you don't know that? Which is why are children, when old enough, will more than likely go to a private or get home schooled. Most public schools are rubbish.

Well poop. Now I'm stuck with the option between a bulkier 13" MBP with a crappier screen or the machine I want with not nearly enough storage. Guess I'll be looking at cloud solutions.

Ok, I agree with you.. but when the Air's get the new i5/i7 line, they will be almost as powerful as the big brothers and the speed difference between the "weaker" Macbook Air and the current "powerful" Macbook Pro, will be only noticeable if you play games, edit videos or do more intensive work. But again, for my parents, most of my friends and students, they would not notice any deference, especially if we consider that the Air's have SSD and the Pro's have HD. The difference is reduced drastically. Actually, the Air's would be snappier for normal activities (like browsing, text editing, chatting, etc.).

What Apple might be trying to do is to create (or recreate) a "lower end" market... and separate from the Pro market ("high end"). In the past one/two years, the only good options were the Macbook Pro. Now we have more accessible and cheaper Macbook Air. If Apple keeps the Pro's ahead of the Air's, they will have very good options for people that need powerful computer and not so powerful, but very very portable computer.

What do you think guys?

To avoid confusion, the correct designation for twelve o'clock is 12 noon or 12 midnight. Alternatively, the twenty-four-hour-clock system may be used. The abbreviation a.m. stands for ante-meridiem (before the sun has crossed the line) and p.m. for post-meridiem (after the sun has crossed the line). At 12 noon the sun is at its highest point in the sky and directly over the meridian. It is therefore neither "ante-" nor "post-".

I went to one of the best Universities in America and the people who flunked out their 1st year were mostly the products of Private and Governor's Schools.

Lion is a 64-bit OS. I'm curious about your comment about running 32-bit Snow Leopard. As long as you are running Snow Leopard on a Core 2 Duo or above, you can run 64-bit applications in Snow Leopard. On most Macs, Snow Leopard installs a 32-bit kernel ("core" OS), but it also installs a 64-bit application layer from which applications run. It's different from Windows, where you need a 64-bit kernel to run 64-bit applications. You can upgrade your Snow Leopard installation to Lion and your Snow Leopard applications will migrate over. Again, it's not like Windows where moving from 32-bit to 64-bit (even from Windows 7 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit) requires a clean installation of the OS and all your applications.

Thank you for the direct copy and paste from Wikipedia. Wikipedia is quite correct about 12 pm, if you want to get technical, and I was fixated on the post that said there is no 12 am and pawned myself as well. I shall now question my own education.

The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language (Fourth Edition, 2000) has a similar usage note on this topic: "Strictly speaking, 12 a.m. denotes midnight, and 12 p.m. denotes noon, but there is sufficient confusion over these uses to make it advisable to use 12 noon and 12 midnight where clarity is required."[14]

The GT 545 while somewhat overpriced does those requirements. I would have suggested a single slot HD 5770 or HD 6850 if that would meet your requirements as well. The GT 545 does not require 6-pin power though. If you have two monitors on the GT 545, what is the third monitor attached to?

I have a fundamental dislike of ATI due to too many driver problems and having features dropped too many times (like TV decoding being dropped from the driver in the next version of the OS).

ATI doesn't have CUDA. Adobe likes CUDA. 'nuf said.

Third (and fourth, if I want) monitor's on a PCIe x1 Quadro card.

What do you do that 24GB isn't enough? Just curious.

Running a test/development environment in an 8 GiB Win7 x64 VM (with overhead, needs about 9 GiB). Usually have a 4 GiB Fedora VM running. Have various XP/2003/2008 test VMs, and an XP test/development system.

Becomes a pain to have to suspend/resume various VMs for testing, instead of just minimizing them.

I also sometimes run a database maintenance routine that just screams if it can get about 12 GiB to do an in-memory sort. I have to suspend or shutdown the 8 GiB VM and all but one of the smaller ones to run this.

TBolt is dual channel, one for DP and the other for PCIe so you dont lose TBolt when connecting DP peripherals.

I think the question is whether all of the mDP to DVI/VGA/HDMI/DVI-DL dongles work when plugged into the end of the TBolt chain.

I thought that TBolt had two symmetric channels, and that DisplayPort traffic had priority - but not a dedicated channel.

I don't comment much here, but this post is classic.
