I hate this BS, 3 times in a row now, I have heard "New MBA will be released next week, tomorrow, or another date." Not a single rumor about release date has been true for the new MBA so far!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It makes me really angry that Macrumors would post at the bottom of the article "so expect to see the MBA's late next week," based off of a ********** rumor!

And then people start stacking rumor upon rumor, until it seems like it is a fact.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Lets try to get a grip.

Gimme Gimme Gimme!

Been holding off on an Air for years - this update will be perfect, especially if the back-lit keyboard holds true.

New fiscal year just started at my work - the boss will spring for one for me, so let's get this thing OUT OF THE GATE already!!!

Who cares about backlit keyboard. The ONLY important issue is... will it have 8gb RAM?

I've got MBA 11 4GB and I really could use another 4...

For flip's sake, are they really holding up these releases just to stick to the tradition of no releases before the conference call

There are legal constraints on what a company can announce in advance and shortly after a conference call.

If there was a regularly scheduled announcement that normally appears in the period then those are OK. Extra ordinary things ( e.g., like major product announce) have to come afterwards. The quarterly results themselves wlll tweek the stock price. More announcements on top of that will do so even more so. For example an annoucement could be used to "spin" the numbers that are about to be announced.

This way Apple can use the standard "don't comment on future product details" and stick to the "what happened" script, instead of "what is going to happen".

that quest never ends....

I was fighting a Core i7 with 12 GiB for almost 2 years. Finally decided this spring that the 4 GiB DIMMs had dropped enough in price, and upgraded to 24 GiB.

Great for a few months, now I'm starting to get into serious paging situations - but my chipset won't support 48 GiB.

:(

Keep in mind those are DIMMs and on a triple channel X58 tower. I purchased a 2 x 4 GB kit back in March for the unbelievable price of $74.99. The same kit was $59.99 just this week. Oh well. I enjoy my current 12 GB.

Next Rumor is going to say:

MacBook Airs coming sometime this Month!

All these rumors are getting ridiculous...(Bring Page 2 back)

Unless, of course, they come sometime next month. All this speculation and prediction is quite funny. But it is harmless fun. I hope the delivery lives up to the promise.

Ah shucks. I was hoping for Lion this week. Oh well.

We get Lion 1 year or more before Windows 8 comes out. That should be interesting to see what MS steels.

Is the MacBook Air the only computer that apple makes? It sure seems that way since it is the only computer that gets any coverage here lately!

LOL.

My point is that whatever {"memory size", "disk size", "CPU GHz", "GPU power", ...} you think will solve all of your problems, in a few months or a year will become a bottleneck.

Two weeks ago my 512 MiB ATI (gawd I hate ATI) GPU died - literally running fine, started to get psychedelic colored confetti all over, and 30 minutes later wouldn't even show the POST screen. Stuck a 256 MiB Quadro 4000 that I had lying around in, worked fine - but 256 MiB wasn't bearable. Picked up a 1.5 GiB GT 545 today - back to the "happy places".

Odd though, that when I run WEI my OCZ Vertex 2 system drive with full TRIM support is the slowest component in my system. Apparently 144 CUDA cores are good for something!

Desktop vs. notebook only compounds the issue.

I hope you did not pay too much for the GT 545.

I honestly do not trust the WEI scores.

The MBA has been very successful. I find it interesting to note the number of tech journalists who found it to be surprisingly nimble, and who use it as their goto device, even over other, more powerful, machines. A lot of everyday users feel the same way, and look forward to see if any updated model will be as impressive.

Laptops are for access to web/email while you're mobile. No one should expect a lightweight laptop to offer top notch performance.

Today, I did pay too much - since only the EVGA card is available today.

Not much choice, though. I wanted a Fermi card that was single slot. The 520 cards are quite anemic, no other GT-5xx cards exist in single slot configs. More powerful dual-slot cards exist for lower prices - but not an option. ATI not an option - gawd I hate ATI.

No benchmark can predict how any system will run for you - but WEI does come close to helping you know how Aero will run on your system. (And Aero on a tri-monitor system is a main concern.)

Obviously, I care. : )

I'd be fine with 4GB RAM myself.

I never understood the backlit keyboard thing. Dunno... I haven't looked at my keyboard in years! For coding I use Happy Hacking Keyboard; the dark version is designed in a way that typeface is barely visible if you look from a distance of maybe 10cm ;-) Quickly makes you a better coder!

Gimmick as it is, it can't hurt! But 8GB of ram would be useful. I tend to accumulate tabs in Chrome. So, 40+ tabs in Chrome, Sparrow, Reeder, Skype, Audium and that's it. And if I also want to run a VM, 4GB is not enough.

You can actually do serious work, even on MBA11, which is great. And 8GB will make it even easier!

It is always "next week". It is such a long wait for me as I have been waiting for so many weeks. Hope this time it does come out next week.

What kind of DDR3 modules do the super thin notebook like MBA, Samsung S9 etc. use? Are they the same as the ones in MacBook Pro ?

Notebook ram costs pennies now, it would be funny if Apple charges like $300+ for an extra 4GB RAM.

If it's regular notebook RAM, just pop the damn thing open and upgrade to max RAM capacity.

What do you do that requires 48GB of RAM?

Funny how people seem to forget what a "rumor" is:

ru·mor
[roo-mer]
–noun
1.
a story or statement in general circulation without confirmation or certainty as to facts: a rumor of war.
2.
gossip; hearsay: Don't listen to rumor.
3.
Archaic . a continuous, confused noise; clamor; din.

–verb (used with object)
4.
to circulate, report, or assert by a rumor: It is rumored that the king is dead.
I would classify about 75% of the internet as "rumor".

(the rest is porn)
