Does this happen when the MB:
- is standalone (ie, not connected to display, drives, etc.)
- is connected to external display, drives, etc.
- or both

For a while, I was tracking down something similar and gave up looking for it.

Both. If a clean install didn't help (which it didn't), the issue must be hardware related. Just trying to to track down what it may be.

Has anyone else had problems with battery life? We have two Late'08 Aluminum MacBooks. Mine is great- my battery still lasts 3-4 hours after almost 2 years. Health at 96% after 199 cycles. My husband's MacBook is the same age, but his battery doesn't last 15 minuted if unplugged. Health at 22% after 220 cycles. I know there have been reported issues with these batteries, but the huge variance seems odd. Are there any replacements without these issues? The reviews on Apple.com indicate that the replacement batteries don't last either. I just need a new battery for my husband's MacBook soon, because he's threatening to steal mine!

Yes, I have problems with my CE battery. It has 140 cycles, and dies randomly at 93%, 72% ... of health, whenever it feels like :D ... please see post #1315, #1317 in this thread, and maybe we can together find the solution, especially if you find the battery update that does not belong to alu macbook!
Please read the mentioned posts, and feel free to reply ;)
Much obliged

I don't have access to my MB right now but I will in a couple of weeks and check it out. On my new Air I seem to see delayed loading times if I'm connected to external stuff.

I have 576 cycles on my 25-month-old Alu MacBook's battery, and Coconut is still showing 100% health. I don't know how true that report is on the health, but as long as I don't use Flash, I think I still get a few hours of use.

I'd be interested to know where I fit in with my loadcycles. Is 576 a lot among users of this MacBook? Is it average? I've always been a bit conscientious about letting this machine run down fully before plugging it in. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but that's the way I started doing it when I first got the machine, and so I've stuck with this method. Seems to have turned out pretty well for me.

I'd be very interested to hear about others' experiences.

I've got 713 cycles on mine and it's still 96% battery health.

Ha. You're leaving me in the dust. It's good to hear that you've still got a lot of life left in it. Are you particular about following any strict charging regimen?

Does anyone know how many cycles Apple says these batteries are good for?

Not really. Keep it plugged in when possible.

Apple says the batteries should be 100% until 300 cycles.

I think I'll call Apple ad see what they have to say about 22% health after 220 cycles. The batteries have both been calibrated appropriately. Maybe they will take pity on me and replace the blasted thing. If not, the only thing I've lost is a phone call, right? Thanks y'all!

Crickey. That's as close as it gets. 25 months, 577 loadcycles. BTW, the way loadcycles are counted (think I read this somewhere) is based on usage - not on full-to-empty-to-full cycles. So 13% battery drain is 13% of a loadcycle.

I just keep it plugged in whenever possible (because I can't have the luxury of not loading every time possible), so I should not be surprised my healt is <100% (94% to be exact). Normal productivity use gives me some 3h45mins, usually with Wi-Fi on. One explanatory factor might be the SSD i installed, because I remember the battery would usually last only for ca. 3 hours with a rotating state disc

In the last week my Uni MB has started having an intermittent issue with the glass trackpad. Sometimes when I click, the trackpad doesn't seem to register that I've clicked. I hear the pad itself click and if I click again (in the exact same place without moving my finger) the click registers. This seems to happen at various places on the trackpad rather than a specific region. Has anyone had this happen/know of a fix?

This was an issue with some MBs when they first came out. Apple released a Trackpad firmware update to fix it. I'd first make sure you have that update installed.

I've had my MB since early 2009 and installed all the software updates. This morning I took the battery out and cleaned out a load of dust and hair from the underside of the trackpad. So far I haven't had any issues...

In regard to some of the battery issues I have read on this thread I have been experiencing the same thing. It started in July this year. The battery would charge and be between 90-10% after around 110 cycles since December 2008. It would them sometimes end up dropping to 60% health (not charge) and would display 0000 time remaining in the indicator. it would still last link normal. I got rid of that for a while and then it came back. Now the macbook dies at random points so I need to keep it plugged in if I am doing something important so I don't lose my work.
Can anyone explain this?

Just saw this thread, never noticed.I have the 2.0 Aluminum Macbook also.:D

so far, my machine is running perfectly (knock on wood):D

Quick question: I left my Mac at the Apple Store on Sunday to be shipped out for repair. It's now Wednesday and it still says "Shipment to repair center pending." I don't remember it saying that this long the first time I sent my Mac in for repair.

Any thoughts? Apple just hasn't updated it?

I've had my Unibody for two years and am quite happy with it, except for some issues...

First of all: I can't get 4gb of RAM to work on this machine. And I mean, ANY ram. 3gb (2gb + the original 1gb) work fine, but whenever I put 4gb it only gives me beeps and doesn't boot. And it is not a RAM issue, as I have tried with two different brands (a first one I can't remember, Hynix (as the original one) and Samsung, borrowed from a current generation Macbook Pro. That is, I can't get it to work with even original RAM from Apple.
4gb seems to be officially supported, so what could be the cause of this? I'm not sure if this is a common issue on this generation of Macbooks, or if it exists any other RAM that would work, or is just my machine...

Another issue: two of the rubber grips on the bottom of the machine are missing, they fell off themselves. Does anyone know if Applecare covers this? I would rather know before a 2 hour journey to my nearest Apple store..

^ 4G is definitely supported. I've had it in mine since the first month (Nov 2008?). I picked up Crucial RAM and did it myself. However, 2/2GB Apple-branded memory should work -- if not, they should make it work if you are covered on AppleCare IMO. Not sure on the feet. Hopefully they just have some around...
