Nothing exactly life changing to add to the current conversation, but I've just been dying to say that I've finally moved out of 2004 and joined the Intel world with my new MacBook. Absolutely awesome, and this is one hell of a solid machine. :) Very happy to join the club!

Welcome, and enjoy.

I still can't find a reason to upgrade from mine. Over 2 years old and still running like a champ. Maybe when Apple gives the new 13" Pro a better screen and takes out the DVD drive I'll switch. Until then, CE MacBook FTW.

Even though i sold mine last november i still think it holds up very well in terms of the specs. Apple is still stuck on the c2d in the Airs and the 13" pro. The features that the pro does have are not exactly huge improvements (SD card slot etc). The 320 graphics are nice though.

I bought mine the week it came out and if i still had it today i wouldn't be envious of the new pro owners. When you think its 2 years since it came out i believe it was one of the best purchases at the time in terms of longevity. The new MacBook is a step back going back to plastic.

Agreed. The 320M graphics are really the only thing better about the current Pro, and that you can put 8GBs of RAM in 'em... I have no need for 8GB though, and I'm not much of a gamer.

I think my next lappy might actually be the 13" Air. I'll have to wait until the next revision when they replace the C2D, though. I'm interested to see what they through in there.

Hopefully for the next 13" pro no optical drive with a dedicated graphics card taking up the extra room instead. With switchable intel graphics.

Recently upgraded my aluminum MacBook with 4 GB of RAM and a 64 GB SSD from MicroCenter (a rebranded ADATA). Now it feels just as fast as my iMac, if not faster, when launching programs and large files or doing any other everyday tasks that aren't CPU or GPU intensive. I had been thinking about selling it and getting a new MBA or something - but adding an SSD did the trick to keep it going for a few more years as my portable. I had a 500 GB drive in it before, but realized I don't need that much storage as it is my secondary machine.

I'm with ChaseR! Upgraded to 4gb RAM and a 500gb Momentus XT a few months ago, but this was the best computer purchase I have ever made. In fact, I am waiting on the next revision of the 11.6 Air and I'll keep this MacBook as my at home machine.

That's exactly what I'm about to do!!!! That's the solid state drive right?

Read the description:

Designed with high-performance core components on an innovative platform, the Seagate Momentus XT solid state hybrid drive consists of a 7200-RPM hard drive with 32MB of cache, 4GB of solid state SLC NAND flash storage, and Adaptive Memory technology, delivering an 80 percent faster performance than traditional 7200RPM hard drives.

That is just a regular HDD with a special solid-state catching system. The solid-state catch is only 4GB.

It'll be faster than a regular 7200RPM drive, but nothing like a solid-state drive.

is there another drive you would suggest thats less than 200 dollars that might be better than this one?

If you need 500GB of storage, that's about as good as it gets for $200.

You can get a 60GB SSD for $150, or a 120GB SSD for $240. The prices really start climbing as the capacity goes up.

I have to agree. To be honest I really think the debut of Collector's Edition Aluminum MacBook - especially the higher end 2.4Ghz model's with 4GB RAM [mine :D] is possibly the BEST Value for Dollar I've EVER spent on ANY PRODUCT - and possibly Apple's best design and product quality since the original TAM.

After Xmas I'm upgrading to a 250GB or 400GB SSD depending on the cost [250GB is about 420-500CAN depending on peak Read/Write performance].

In the past few weeks I've actually KISSED my MacBook - something I never thought I'd ever do - and never could do with the iPhone 3GS/4 as those don't appeal to me.

Just joined the family..

Just got myself a Unibody Aluminum Macbook with 4gb 1066 DDR3 ram, a brand new 320gb WD Scorpio 7200 rpm hard drive and a brand new battery.. all for $675.. the guy I got it off of basically babied it the entire time he had it, feels like a brand new machine. Could not be happier.. glad to be a part of the uMB Aluminum family

Nice, I have the exact same machine. Haven't had a problem yet.

I was just trying to get something that would tie me over til the MBP refresh comes and then resell this one, but I'm thinking I'll be holding onto it for a while, especially if I don't like the alterations to the MBP in the refresh

Not at all a bad idea, I have thrown some reasonably heavy stuff at mine without a problem

Hi guys,

I've noticed an issue with my MacBook and am wondering if you could help out:

After I restart my Mac, the Apple logo takes roughly 34 seconds to appear and then the system takes another 30 seconds to boot up. Before, the Apple logo took seconds to appear.

Any ideas?

I've already tried: Clean install, PRAM and SMC reset.
