Hi

my macbook (unibody 2.4 alu) screen goes black and I have to move the lcd screen with a little pressure to get it back to its normal condition ! at first it sometimes occured but right know when I turn my laptop on it is black and I have to move the LCD screen to be able to see the screen !

I think the problem is with inverter cable or inverter board . I need to know which one is not working and can I replace it by myself ?

update : I searched about inverter cables and found that my macbook has LVDS cable instead of inverter cable ! is it right ? so I have to change LVDS cable ?

I am a new owner of a Macbook Aluminum from ebay. I won the auction yesterday for $705 for a 2.4Ghz model. I'm excited and think I got a pretty good deal.

Is there anything I should be worried about with this model? What can I check as soon as it arrives to ensure its is in good shape?

The item comes with 1 year left on applecare (ending 10/2011). For those who have purchased used macs on ebay, should I do a formal transfer of applecare or can I just hope that it will continue to follow the unit serial number.

You can check the panel on it to see if you got one of the ones with the 'lesser' screens. A quick look through this thread should give you the model numbers and how to find out which you have i believe.

Cool, thanks. What about the AppleCare transfer?

I'm not too worried about the display as I only paid $700, I just want it to not have a hardware failure.

When i sold mine i shipped the Applecare box and information with the laptop. I have spoke to different people on here and some said that it had to be changed so that it was in the new owners name and some have said that it doesn't matter and that Apple just goes off the serial number when you take it to a genius.

I've never had to use Applecare to sort any problems so Im not sure to be honest.

Thanks, I will make sure to keep the applecare box, if I need to have it serviced. I don't think I will have a problem at the genius bar, however I do think that mail in service would be difficult as it is tied to the original owners address. I live 75 miles away from the closest apple store so generally I prefer the mail service.

Well crap, my MacBook fell on the floor. Huge dent and scratch on the bottom of it. Posting pics later, top part is unscratched.

Sorry to hear :(

Maybe inquire about a replacement bottom cover? I'm not sure how much they are, but probably worth it if you ever plan on selling it.

I'm wondering how much I can get for my 2.4GHz, 4GB, 1TB UMB... I plan on upgrading to the 13" Pro whenever Apple updates it with an iX processor and hopefully a dedicated GPU.

I dropped my MacBook on a tile floor a year ago and it dented the right front corner and scratched it a little bit. Then the other day it fell off my bed onto the carpet and it hit the side of my nightstand and put another small dent into it. This laptop has been through hell and back but it's still runs effortlessly. By far the best Mac I've ever had.

Has anyone noticed their trackpads become just slightly less responsive (mainly in dragging items while holding trackpad down)?

Sometimes the item I'm dragging will "let go" even though my finger hasn't left the trackpad and it's still being pressed down.

To be honest, from the day one my trackpad was slightly less responsive, but I got used to this:cool:
What about you people using Magic Trackpad? (or should I use search engine for this )

Macbook with PRO battery update!?

Sorry for double posting, but I have to ask CE Community about this thing that bothers me:
Just now realized that my CE Macbook (5,1) 2.0 ghz runs 1.3 battery update (made for Macbook PRO!)
Why is this I am confused
Can somebody enlighten me what is the right version of battery update that I have to download and install!
I was considering replacing 1.3 with 1.4, but my battery info is nothing like :apple: has written about 1.4 >
"Batteries with this information in the Battery Information section need this update:
A device name "ASMB016" or "ASMB013" in the serial number
A Pack Lot Code is 0002
A battery firmware version of 0110"

Thank you very much for any answer, I am clueless

Much obliged :D

If you show me how to check what version I have, I will be happy to tell you. :)

I sold it. I miss the small form factor a lot, but love the power and screen real estate of the MBP 15. Since there was no performance upgrade in the last upgrade cycle, it was a non-event for the 13, forcing me to upgrade.

I have a 2.0 ghz CE, still alive and kicking after 2 years. Absolutely nothing wrong with the machine after all this time except for a battery change after it started swelling. Best computer I've ever bought, hands down. Should last me at least 2-3 years before I start shopping around again :p

machines are solid. I bought mine back in March '09 and have no problems at all.

Could you please check the path on your alu macbook - Macintosh HD/System/Library/SystemConfiguration/BatteryUpdater/Get Info
I need to do something about wrong battery update that I have (1.3 written for macbook pro).
What battery update do you have?

Thanx very much

Nothing exactly life changing to add to the current conversation, but I've just been dying to say that I've finally moved out of 2004 and joined the Intel world with my new MacBook. Absolutely awesome, and this is one hell of a solid machine. :) Very happy to join the club!
