Note:

The $1299 presumed MacBook price point is labeled "Better" so is not the entry level MacBook. We still don't know what the entry level MacBook price will be.

You know...am I the only person thinking this is Apple messing with everyone?

I mean, all this information comes out the NIGHT before? Information that seems to throw most (if not all) previous rumors out the window?

Wasn't there some mention on AI about Apple getting annoyed at all the leaking? Couldn't this be countermeasures? If I was them, this is exactly what I would do!

Of course, there is the possibility that everything we heard up until now is false and this is the real stuff. We won't know until tomorrow.

hate to say it and not tell you the details but expect something a little more exciting than whats expected so far. macbooks will be big and im not talking about the pro macbooks.

I think:

- K29, MB382LL/A $899.00 - MacBook
- M97, MB466LL/A $1,299.00 - MacBook
- M97, MB467LL/A $1,599.00 - MacBook Air
- M96, MB543LL/A $1,799.00 - 15" MacBook Pro
- M96, MB940LL/A $2,499.00 - MacBook Air (128 SSD)
- M98, MB470LL/A $1,999.00 - 15" MacBook Pro
- M98, MB471LL/A $2,499.00 - 17" MacBook Pro
- M88, MB766LL/A $2,799.00 - 17" MacBook Pro

______
Only 8?

4 configurations still remain

Guess we will see tomorrow. If its $1299, what a waste of a summer I could have just bought a vista laptop already. To expensive for this economy and a student.

It's the price of the midrange MB just like it has been. You save $100 with ed pricing. If these are the prices they are exactly the same as the MB now.

I hardly think that if Apple were to do a touchscreen notebook, it would be the cheapest in the range. It would, of course, be the most expensive, having the most expensive new tech in it. Anyone heard of the iPod Touch?

Although, it is a bit odd to have such a jump in price. There's now US$200 difference in the current models, to have double that does seem odd. But, a plausible explanation could be that Apple are trying to get more of a hold of a slightly lower end of the market, by supplementing their range with a cheaper, no frills version of their product. Its exactly the same thing they did with their iPod range when they introduced the shuffle - a much, much cheaper product, but with not as much fancy frills. This is what I think the US$899 MB would be.

What I hope, being an Australian, is that Apple doesn't kill us with a dodgy conversion in pricing, purely because the Aussie dollar is at a low at the moment. When I bought my MBP, the shop I bought it from paid more for it than the retail price in the US! There was about a AU$300 discrepancy in the exchange rates! So I hope that Apple adjust prices here in Australia, like they will in the US.

Yeah I have to agree with you, I just did a currency conversion on my almighty device, and it almost turns out to be 4 grand. I need this for TAFE and uni. Students are poor, even with the education discount!

no mac + vista = i feel bad for you

You know some (scratch that most) of us cant afford a 2,000 + computer. not with bush still in office and our country going downhill so fast.

20GB 4G iPod
4GB 1G iPod Mini

It seems you can afford this a expensive computer. but most of us, like I said cant.

it will be smart of apple to have cheeper computers. You hard core apple fanboys who still believe apple must sell expensive products will just need to deal with apple's change to go cheeper while your selling your $2500 mac to pay for gas and food to feed your family as well as paying mortgage on your house with the money you sold the mac for

If - K29 BETTER, MB382LL/A $899.00 -is the LED Apple Display and it's 24" this implies there's another that's not as good which would make it smaller and cheaper. Otherwise the price list wouldn't say "BETTER".

Something isn't adding up here. I believe appleinsider,gizmodo,bougenius et. al. are being fed conflicting info from Apple on purpose.

And it's working.;)

My prediction

899=11 inch netbook tablet with touchscreen capabilities hence the LED screen thing=gateway drug
1299=13 inchregular macbook
1599=13 inch black mackbook or different color
1799=13 inch macbook air
1999= 15inch macbook pro
2499=17inch macbook pro

Anyone know if they'll start selling the laptops in Southern California by tomorrow?

Also, about how long will it take for them to start education discounts on the new Macbook Pros, online and instore?

Apple Shifting Tactics on Suppressing Product Leaks?

I've heard of that before. ;)

MacUser1: $x for a MacBook/MacBook Pro. That's a ripoff! :(
MacUser2: Go use Vista then.
MacUser1: Fine, I will.
MacUser2: ...
MacUser1: Nah, Apple I can't stay mad at you, I will pay the extra money tomorrow.

Next day, Apple releases products at lower prices than the ones they leaked, and everyone thinks it's a bargain = more sales.

It's possible. I'm just glad we don't have to wait more than a few hours to get all the answers because it's hard to keep track of all the contradictions. :p

I'd be glad for him that he's saving his money.

A $1299 Macbook is not only overpriced, it will kill Apple.

As in, a $1300 macbook will put them out of business? Or it will make their stock drop for a while? I think saying that it will kill apple is a tad bit of an overreaction.

I think they will have a cheaper model without the superdrive and a few other features just as they do now. Then there will be a middle level model and a high end.

Sure they can!

Honestly, I can't believe all the whining from the people who would "buy a Macbook immediately at $899, but would rather use some cheap PC laptop with Vista if it's gonna cost more like $1199"?!? You REALLY wouldn't spend a little more to have OS X on your portable, and not Vista? You REALLY wouldn't spend a little more for all the little innovations Apple includes in their laptops, and to get one that has better resale value down the road than most others?

When the economy goes as sour as it is now, the best bet is for companies to cater to the high-end consumer. The rich stay rich in times like these, for one thing -- and for another, when you offer real value for the dollar, people will still buy when they believe in "you get what you pay for".

As just one example, I just read a news story here last week about the trouble our local car dealerships are going through. A couple big ones have gone under already, and others are rushing to merge with each other, to try to stay afloat. It's all a big mess right now, EXCEPT, there's one dealership that's breaking sales records and doing a big expansion this month. You know who? It's a dealer specializing in exotic sports cars and luxury cars!

Catering to the masses is a bad plan when times are tough. People who are out of a job simply aren't buying anything but the necessities of life - so no new notebook computers for them, whether the price is $1299 or $399. People who DO still have a job and want to buy something like a new computer are going to be pickier about which one they get. It's not wise to save a few bucks today, only to have the thing break down in a year, just out of warranty ... or wind up being so frustrating to use, they have to buy ANOTHER one and sell it at a loss.

Yup. Apple can't survive with these prices in today's economy.
