DID anyone notice !?

Students are *%&ked up a bit now.
The student discount is now $100 for the PRO (instead of $200)
and $50 for the MacBook (it was $100 just last week).

AND we get all kinds of video adapters instead of ONE simple mini-whatever-video-out to DVI- "I" , A G A I N. And this time it's $30 each.
So that means -if you need to use your home DVI screen - you'd buy the DVI adapter (and it is not dvi-"i" ,Noooo it's plain dvi-which means it's crippled in a way), and than , there it comes , if you happen to need the notebook at your work ,uni , school etc too - you're gonna need the ANALOG adapter , which ends up beautifully at minimum $60 for extras. ( the Dual link dvi gets even better at $100)

Let's be real here. This has got to be one of the best products Apple has ever made. The glossy displays are amazing. The glare makes it look even more attracting (and on a side note you get used to it after a few hours). No firewire? Not a problem. It's for the professional products only. This is the best thing Apple has done in years. I'm buying my new MacBook today and I'm going to have one heck of a good time. :)

Never mind. I called Apple directly and found out. Thanx.

I assumed that they do, since the IR remote is listed as an accessory.
Anyone know where the IR lens is located on the MacBook/MacBook Pros?

i wasn't aware that my External FW drives were for professionals only.

Yeah well you can't please everybody. Go pro. Also if I was to make a mockup of what all the parts you want in a macbook I guarantee the design would be horrible.

a Little Question?

The screen is Glass, the body is aluminum (Metal). Does material touching is not good...
I think aluminum will scratch the screen

I went in early this morning to the Apple Store in Glasgow to buy the new MacBook. Opens at 9am and i was there at 9.50am. Walked up to one of the employees:

Me - "Hi, I would like to buy the new MacBook please."

Rep - "Um, have you booked a personal shopping session?"

Me - "No I just thought I would buy one seeing as I'm like the only guy here."

Rep - "Well we aren't selling them to just anyone, unless you have an appointment I can't sell you one."

Me - "Hang on, so you have them in stock?"

Rep - "Yeah, about 40 units."

Me - "So why can't I buy one, I've got cash on me now?"

Rep - "Cos we can't sell them to anyone like I said, I can book you an appointment for early next week"

Me - "Nah mate, just forget it. If you don't want my money I'll just go and buy a PC"

I've waited since June for a MacBook and to be treated like a piece of dirt by those guys is unforgivable. Thank you Apple for the iPhone but I won't be buying any more products from you if your gonna treat people like this!!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I posted this on another thread, but had to post it again cos I'm so mad and people should know before being confronted with rude staff.

I'm sorry, but, WTF??!! That's taking the whole Mac elitist misconception/truth to a whole new level! I tell them to go 'f' themselves... politely.

Every time that Apple introduces new laptops, the student discount drops in half. It will go up again. I had to wait for this when I bought my MBP 2 years ago.

Someone doesn't like his new MacBook? Oh no.. like it won't get better over time. ._. Seriously, man. Get real.

Your premise is absolutely wrong. And you're trying to make your premise into a fact; whilst it's nothing more than pure personal preference.

You (and all the other haters) make it seem like a fact that reflection is problematic. Who gives you to right to state this "feature" as a problematic fact. For example I don't think it's problematic, hence I'm not complaining.

Let's try not to mix up personal preference into facts. To each his own.

Well, here are the facts:

Fact 1. during the keynote Q&A Phil said "You offset the reflection by the brightness, and consumers love it. One of the great things about a notebook is you can turn it however you want!"

Fact 2. in the promotion video there are indeed indeed disturbing reflections.

So, are the reflections a feature or a disadvantage? In my opinion reflections is a bad thing and is nothing that you should expect on a piece of equipment for several thousand of dollars, especially if you are supposed to work with it all day. Think how easy it wold be if Apple had offered both a glossy and a matte option then this discussion wouldn't be here. Removing a configuration option that many feels very strong about is not an improvement.

And it shouldn't be! I'm glad you like the new Mac but many non-professionals depend on FireWire.

Amen. I use Target Disk Mode all the time to transfer files and to troubleshoot.
I have firewire-only external drives, and although I also have USB drives and combo
firewire/USB drives, the firewire drives are MUCH faster for large transfers.
I have a Firewire-only DVD burner which is worlds faster than my MacBook
or iMac 8X burner, so I use it often. I use firewire to import video into iMovie.

I am most definitely not a professional. Sorry, but the excuses are not cutting it!

Apple. The only company that wants their notebooks to double as mirrors. *that doesn't bother me thou and no I'm not being sarcastic* Try the glossy screen out. You'll get used to it after awhile. If you still don't like it, get the antiglare. I do believe there should be a choice thou....

Does someone want to buy the new MB and trade it for my FIREWIRE MacBook? It has firewire.

Go on, if it's that important to you.

There's a rubber gasket running around the screen - it's clearly visible in the close-up pics.

Can you explain how black is less neutral than white or gray?
The monitor I use at work is a black widescreen monitor, and I have never noticed the edge of the monitor/screen conflicting with the images on the screen.

I'm not sure if I understand what you mean...

When you are color correcting photos you want a neutral gray as your background. White isn't technically neutral, but it's better than black. The frame around the screen counts as background. An image looks different when you frame it with a different photo matte. The same principle applies to computers. All of Mac's previous computers and displays had neutral frames with the exception of the black MacBook. They're making the entire product line this way now.

Have you called 1-800-MY-APPLE and ask to file a consumer complaint? I did, it took 2 minutes. The consumer relations rep told me that they are getting hammered there today because of the lac of FireWire. She said it perplexed her as to why Apple didn't include FireWire in the new Macbook.

I think that voicing our umbrage by calling Apple is the best move.

How do you plan on doing your migration? Are you going to reset all your settings from scratch? Copy all your data to a USB disk? Copy data over a LAN?

Dude....you just use your ethernet cable to connect your new and old mac.. That's not an issue..
Only 5-10 % of consumers use firewire (unfortunately I'm one of them) but it's not such a big deal for everyone to go crazy over.. I'm gna get this b/c I like the smaller size..
Great design!
